22.01.2022 Crab facts Sand crabs are arguably the tastiest and most misunderstood crustaceans going around. These delicacies are commonly found throughout Australia's estuaries and inshore regions in all mainland States. In Queensland they were officially known as sand crabs until recently, when officials switched names to the blue swimmer crab, as used in NSW and WA. Males are blue or purple with pearly white mottling Females are much less colourful, being drab brown with pale mottling... For a long time it was thought that only one species of blue swimmer crab occurred in Australian waters, namely Portunus pelagicus. However, scientists found that crabs variously described as P. pelagicus were in fact, a species complex consisting of no less than four different species. They determined that the majority of blue swimmer crabs in Australian waters were not P. pelagicus at all, but were in fact the closely related Portunus armatus which was originally described from Shark Bay in WA in 1861. These are the crabs that steal your bait when fishing on the Ninety Mile Beach. Here I was thinking that the crabbers at Lakes Entrance were catching the much less tasty European Green Shore Crabs, but they are smarter than that. Here’s proof! Happy to be of assistance with the crab facts of the day. Tomorrow: Snapper and why their eyes pop and their stomachs come out of their mouths! See more

16.01.2022 Something cool is happening right now at the Paynesville Community Centre! Check out Danish mural artist Andreas Welin, who has kindly agreed to take 24 hours out of his holiday and paint us a mural! Pop down and say hello - he'll be there until about 7 tonight and early tomorrow morning. Thanks to East Gippsland Shire Council for agreeing to make it happen with one hour's notice! Check out Andreas' work on the link below - he's a great catch!... https://www.facebook.com/welinone/ See more

14.01.2022 I'd like to post something on my business page that says how successful my branding strategy and social media and web design have been in the success of my business. But it's all rubbish. Its about relationships, knowledge, value for money and delivering what you promise. Thanks.

11.01.2022 I've just completed some pro bono work preparing an application for the Victorian Coastal Awards, on behalf of Gippsland Ports and their partners. It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of this project and it is a joy to visit these islands. https://youtu.be/lRqe-lDvqYs
