Just got sent this video of the Elvis tribute band singing the Push Bike song at downtown Gulargambone, wishing me the best on the rest of the ride. What beautiful people! You know, this experience of the real Australia is so endearing. With all the recent trouble in the world, it's nice to know that real Aussies still exist all over... this great wide land of ours. On the road we are now being tooted by well wishers who we've met in all the various places we've been. Tomorrow we cross the border into Queensland, with the first snack stop at Hebel, then on to Dirranbandi for the night. The ride is 125 kays total. Now we only have about 850 kays to go. I am travelling with Campbell McKay for the next 400 kays through to Roma. Then we will decide where to go from there. We have a couple of choices - one is a bit shorter but with more climbing. I will ask the locals when we get a bit closer, as there's nothing like local knowledge. It will be good to have a riding buddy for a short while. Cam's mum has PD so he understands the problem and wants to be proactive in finding solutions. He seems like a nice guy. Tomorrow we head for the bush in the Western NSW outback, the land of wild goats, camels and all things creepy. Well, today if you care to look at the video I was summoned to ride in a work ute for 5 kays, through road works that they thought too dangerous... to ride on the gravel road construction. These guys should ride alongside semi-trailers! That is what I call dangerous! Short blog today as I'm very tired and I need to take a rest. Thanks to all the followers! It is so great to have company on my journey! Campbell McKay joined me this morning at Lightning Ridge. Some would say "Why does this guy like pain?" or "Does he get a kick out of watching some old guy sweat and drip blood?" No, the answer is Cam's Mum has PD and he genuinely wants to help find better ways of de...aling with this condition. It is very admirable. We had an uneventful ride to Hebel, our first stop in Queensland, with a light tail wind heading due south. When we arrived we turned right - right into a south easterly wind of about 19 kays per hour! Bugger, this is the direction we will take for the next 400 kays and wouldnt you know it, a serious wind for days. Luckily, we were accompanied by several emus along the way! Fortunately, the roads were quite smooth, or am I just getting used to my fillings being shaken out? Tomorrow we have a shorter 97 kay ride to St George - the big smoke! They have 3 caravan parks, wow!! It's good to mix it up a little. The next 4 days will take us to within 400 kays or so of the finish.
