24.01.2022 WARNING - SUPER CUTE Seasons Greetings to all the Roaming Vet Family - as a thank you gift for allowing us to do what we love for yet another year (11 now!) we have on your behalf adopted three young koalas burnt in the recent NSW bush fires. Peter, Paul and Anwen below were all rescued from the Lake Innes Nature Reserve suffering from burns and dehydration. They are currently undergoing treatment and care in Koala Hospital Port Macquarie and we wish them a speedy recovery and a healthy and strong return to their natural habitat ASAP. Boring stuff - The Roaming Vet is on leave from 24/12-12/1/2020, let us know if you need anything before then, otherwise wishing you a happy healthy and love infused festive Season and New Year, See you next year! Dr Romy & Ilsa

23.01.2022 Hi everyone, sorry I havent posted in a while, I have been a little unwell (not Covid!), on the mend now and hoping you are all safe and well. Sadly we recently lost my own beautiful boy Sabre after a long brave fight with intestinal cancer - left photo below. Our family is heartbroken, fortunately my daughter welcomed a new family member Chi Chi Bongo ( who has written a few interesting drafts on my computer) who fills our days with much needed joy. Such a gift to have furry friends in these times!

21.01.2022 Hi Everyone, hope you are all well in this strange time. I will be updating everyone soon via email and social media about how our service to you all may change due to the current situation. For the moment just wanted to reiterate that to date there is no evidence of animal to human transmission of the virus. There are two cases of dogs that tested positive in Hong Kong both of whom lived with a confirmed case. Neither of the dogs displayed any symptoms. We dont know enough ...yet to give clear guidelines and due to lack of testing kits available it doesnt seem likely we will be testing domestic animals. It may be sensible for Covid 19 positive people who have furry companions ( four legged!) to where possible, have others prepare food for and handle them. Like I said we dont know enough yet, but Im optimistic this will not threaten the beautiful relationships we have with our four legged friends. They are actually a saving grace in all of this ( I know mine are!). Wishing you all good health and well being, Dr Romy Feldman - your Roaming Vet See more

17.01.2022 * - - & //* Hope everyone is staying well. Just thought I would update you with a reputable condensed (I tried my best) version of where we stand and appropriate recommendations. There have been a tiny number of cases of Covid-19 in animals around the world and in all cases, it is likely that the transmission was human to animal. There is still no evidence that pets can pass Covid-19 to their owners. - ... Out of an abundance of caution and until more is known about this virus; - or where their owners are self-isolating, should be kept indoors but only if the cat is happy to be kept indoors. Some cats cannot stay indoors due to stress-related medical reasons. - In you should restrict contact with pets - dont pat, share food, kiss, or hug them; and wash your hands before and after any contact with your pet or service animal, just as you would restrict your contact with other people. Where possible, have another member of your household feed and look after them. - there is no reason to remove pets from homes where COVID-19 has been identified in members of the household, unless there is risk that the pet itself is not able to be cared for appropriately. - For responsible pet owners, preparing in advance is key. Make sure you have an emergency kit prepared, with at least two weeks worth of your pets food and any needed medications. 0402343484 $75. . Wishing everyone the best at this time. 13.01.2022 **IMPORTANT ** COVID -19, CORONAVIRUS AND YOUR PET - latest information In light of the evolving global epidemic of the human respiratory disease Covid-19 (caused by the virus SARS-Cov-2), and a report from Hong Kong where a pet dog belonging to a Covid-19 patient returned a positive test for the virus, veterinarians may be fielding questions from pet owners about a perceived risk of pet-to-human Covid-19 transmission posed by domestic pets. The current outbreaks of canine ...enteric coronavirus across Australia may also cause confusion in the community about disease risk. It is important to note that many animal groups have species-specific coronavirus infections. Canine coronavirus is known to be circulating in the community and regularly causes outbreaks of enteric disease in specific dog groups such as greyhounds and shelters. Canine enteric coronavirus is unrelated to the human respiratory SARS-Cov-2, the cause of Covid-19 disease. Canine enteric coronavirus can be detected by PCR of faeces and does not pose a risk to human health. Vaccination is available for canine enteric coronavirus, but this vaccination is not appropriate for Covid-19 prevention. Pet owners may be concerned about pets playing a role in SARS-Cov-2 transmission in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak in Australia. Current advice from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) states: "The current spread of COVID-19 is a result of human to human transmission. To date, there is no evidence that companion animals can spread the disease. Therefore, there is no justification in taking measures against companion animals which may compromise their welfare."

12.01.2022 GREAT NEWS to brighten your day. Remember Anwen the little koala burnt in the bushfires (photo 1)who I adopted on all your behalves? SHE WAS RELEASED BACK TO THE WILD ON APRIL 3rd !!!!! The other photos show her rehab and lastly release, so great to share this fantastic news

11.01.2022 **ATTENTION LEPTOSPIROSIS ALERT** You might remember the Leptospirosis outbreak in dogs last year, this causes nonspecific clinical signs like lethargy, vomiting and diarrhoea which leads to serious illness and is often fatal. This year we have had another confirmed Leptospirosis case from Crows Nest early this month and there have been 2 cases seen in a dog from Balmain and Newtown. Therefore, The Roaming Vet recommends vaccination against Leptospirosis in dogs living within a 5km radius of Surry Hills, in Balmain or Crows Nest or their immediately surrounding suburbs or if the dog is in contact with rats.
