19.01.2022 What results will I really achieve from professional copywriting & optimisation? When it comes to copywriting for websites, a lot of the end ‘results’ that a business can achieve is often quite intangible or un-measurable. This is because copywriting utilises a whole lot of emotion and connection and sales psychology which is people orientated and people (and how they feel) can’t necessarily be measured. We can however measure some website basics, such as traffic, conversio...n rates, the average time people spend on your page, how your Google rankings improve etc. For eCommerce stores, you also have other metrics such as abandoned cart rates, average order value and more. Trouble is, in many circumstances, I don’t ever really get to see those results. I get some feedback from my clients as to whether they love their new copy when I hand it over to them and I might get a testimonial, but rarely does a business owner find the time or the inclination to reach back out months later to let me know any of the measurable statistics etc. (Unless of course they’re working with me for an extended period of time on a marketing plan but then they often don’t want any of their inside ‘results’ to be publicly broadcast, which is fair enough!) It is quite frankly, to be expected. Life and business is busy and while I’d love to know these things, the last thing I want to do is interrogate my clients asking for statistics for my sake. However, in this particular case, I have first-hand knowledge. Billing Metals & Manufacturing is my husband’s business. And while he is brilliant at ‘making cool stuff’ (that I have no clue about!) he’s not so great at websites or marketing. Which clearly, is where I come to his rescue. This means I can track and measure his results over time, after I make changes. Which is super cool. I can literally use his business as an experiment to validate and develop my skills and knowledge. Luckily, my changes and enhancements are indeed working well for him. As I keep telling him, I’m not just a pretty face :p. I do know plenty about how to optimise websites and get real results. 14.01.2022 Have you forgotten how to have fun? It's so incredibly easy, particularly in the earlier days of a business, to get so focused on the serious side of things - that you forget and lose sight of the real reason you went into business on your own in the first place. We get so caught up in the desire to make our businesses work (and the pressure!) that we do forget that other stuff exists. Or - that we could actually enjoy the process from the get go.... And in case you need reminding...most of us do actually go into business for the freedom, flexibility and FUN. Because who says business can't be fun? Sure it has it's challenges. It takes us so far outside our comfort zones that we feel like we're practically free-falling off a cliff much of the time. But really - we should enjoy the process. Even the tricky bits. Often, it's the interesting twists and turns throughout the journey that makes reaching that end goal even more rewarding and satisfying. But we should also remember to take a step back occasionally to do stuff for ourselves. Away from our business. To go and be a kid again and do something we enjoy. To be a bit silly :) Because if there is one thing hubby and I have learnt over the past 6 or so years, with various businesses - sacrificing yourself entirely DOES NOT WORK. We did that for far too long. Our businesses ruled us and we felt so powerless. We were stressed and because of that stress we couldn't find our way out. It took a huge failure and a massive shakeup for us to realise where we were going wrong in life and in business. And it was as simple as living our lives the way WE genuinely wanted to (not what anybody else expected or thought we would or should) - and building businesses around that desire for true freedom and flexibility. To build our businesses around US. And our kids. And what we all need as individuals and as a family unit. And our dream lifestyle (which we now have, by the way, because we made it a priority!) But the other thing? When you have fun and relax and let your guard down a little - that's when the best and most creative and incredible ideas tend to come to you. Sometimes you just need to take a breath and a break and stop to smell the roses. Take the pressure off yourself to be this or that and just chill the eff out. When you simply 'let go' of those reins a little - it truly is incredible how many ideas and how many opportunities start coming your way. Because when you're having fun - inside your business and out - it shows. Your customers and clients pick up on it - and they're far more likely to be drawn to you. Confidence, fun and a little trust...is so god damn sexy

08.01.2022 "The ACTIONS of confidence come first...the FEELINGS of confidence come later." I love this quote from the book The Confidence Gap, by Dr Russ Harris. It's truly a life-changing title and a must read. If you wait until you FEEL confidence, before you take action, you'll be waiting a very long time.... We only gain real confidence by ACTING with confidence (and courage!), despite the fear we feel, for the FEELINGS of confidence to grow. And it's not to say we have to ignore fear or push it to one side either. In the book, Dr Harris explains that it's about acknowledging it, accepting it, making room for it and using it as much as possible to enhance our performance. Seriously, you've got to read the book. But - chances are, as a business owner, you may be waiting for the feeling of confidence to show up, before you tackle that scary thing in your business. It could be posting on socials, writing blog posts, coming up with a new offer or reaching out to collaborate with someone. It could be investing in a new website or some super new copywriting :) Yet waiting for the feeling of confidence will not work nor will it move you forward. 04.01.2022 How would an extra 605.46% worth of revenue benefit your eCommerce business? It would be nice, right? Because even on a tiny sales figure, that type of increase is pretty darn significant.... For example: Say you currently have $200 in sales each month (hopefully you get more, but lets be really conservative here). Then you increased that by 605.46% - you would then be getting $1,410.92 per month. That's an extra $1,210.92 per month. And that's pretty darn cool. Even cooler, if you could do that in a week. Now, let's take a larger figure... If you start with $2,000 per month - apply that same percentage and suddenly you're earning a whopping $14,109.20 per month. YIKES! Some difference, right? You're probably wondering why I'm giving you these maths calculations though. It's because that's what I did for my husbands business with a website design refresh (and updated template), some very basic SEO & Copy changes and some even more basic content marketing efforts. And no, I'm not pulling your leg :p While I can't divulge his exact figures, in just five months, with only doing the very basics above - he has seen a 605.46% increase in his revenue. "To empower rural business leaders to chase their wildest dreams and build a life of freedom, flexibility and fun for themselves and their families, from anywhere they so choose." So, today, I ask you this...... Are you chasing your wildest dreams? Or, are you just playing it safe by aiming small? Are you actively building a life of freedom, flexibility and fun? Or, are you hoping all of that will somehow magically land in your lap, when your business gets to a certain point? Are you actively and purposely DRIVING your business success? Or are you simply waiting, wishing and hoping for the success to just 'happen'? See, the thing is this. The business and life we want doesn't magically land in our laps. It only shows up when we MAKE these aspects a priority and actively pursue them. No one else is going to grant you the time or permission to build a business that works for and around the life you want to lead. Your wildest goals aren't going to land in your lap if you aren't brave enough to figure out what they are and then go after them. No one else is going to hand you the success you want on a silver platter. Nor, are you suddenly going to find any secret shortcuts or formulas towards your success (hint - there aren't any!). You don't necessarily need to wait for certain milestones or circumstances to appear - before you create the life and business you want. You can choose to have the things you want now. Or at least, take that next tiny step towards what you want, right now. You can choose to take an hour out of your day to go ride your horses and make that a priority (like I tend to do!). No matter how busy things are. You can choose to take yourself for a walk on the beach or across the paddocks to de-stress and get yourself healthier. You can choose to run your business YOUR way. You can choose to pursue your own success. Relentlessly. You can even choose to rest, when you need to. You can make sure you're choosing to go after what YOU really want - not just what you've been taught to believe you can have. 03.01.2022 Do you follow and/or support the Melbourne Cup? As a horse lover, I'm forever conflicted. On one hand, the treatment of race horses isn't always as good as it should be...... And all the focus on the fashion, money and celebrities kind of help the general public to forget about the welfare aspects that are often hidden away from public view. But on the other hand, there are many horses who are treated well and there are some great people within the industry who genuinely love their horses. There is also much more happening with re-homing programs after racing too. Most of my horses over the years have been off the track Thoroughbreds - and they've turned out to be amazing... Including the stunning (but incredibly cheeky!) Mr Trigger pictured here Trigger only ever ran two races and he came very, very last haha so was retired pretty quickly. He's training to be a Dressage horse now. I also have Mr Bertie (my orange dude), who has an impressive track record of 1 entire race :p He just so happens to be the QUIETEST and cruisiest horse I have ever met and I love him to bits. He'll soon be getting me out competing for the first time ever in the new year :) I also have my old boy Jack, who is an ex-harness racer or 'pacer' (and a successful and famous one at that!) who crazily, even at the grand age of 24, can gallop faster than my lazy 'ex-gallopers' hahaha. Trouble is, I've also seen how badly some horses get messed up by the racing world. Where sweet and kind young horses are turned into complete wrecks and crazy basket cases because they were forced to run with whips and spurs. It really can 'fry' them mentally. And I've ended up with a couple who just couldn't be saved or turned around :( Therefore I have zero inclination to watch the 'big race' today as I can see beyond the gloss and the glitz (to where there is a really big dark side to it all). But that aside - I sure love my current ex-racing horses. Something that big business threw on their websites to look good and never really lived up to.... It seems however, that I have 'seen the light' or the importance in having these defined for your business (thanks to some expert coaching!). And - I now have mine. Going through the process of creating these - made me realise how important it is to get really clear on what you're aiming for in your business. And that when you know you're contributing to a higher purpose - suddenly, everything you do each day takes on more meaning, which gives you more drive to succeed (and prevents you from getting stuck in the daily grind of tasks).
