25.01.2022 Raw Manuka honey is amazing for healing horse wounds

24.01.2022 HERBALIST ADVICE TO QUICKLY AND EASILY REVERSE DRY, CRACKED AND PAINFUL HANDS! . As horse people, we tend to get dry hands from all the dust and hands on, physical work. Now, with all the extra COVID-19 washing and sanitising, our hands are extra dry and extra sore. The good news is that today, I am sharing my personal herbal protocol to reverse dry hands fast!! . Step 1 (Optional): If your hands are painfully sore, first apply ALOE VERA GEL. Please, please, do NOT buy th...e bright green stuff you find at the supermarket. Head to the health food store and grab the pure stuff that hasn't had a heap of other "magic" ingredients mixed through them - it is less effective and less healthy for your body. Let the aloe vera gel sink in before going to step 2. Your hands will feel instantly cool and relieved. . Step 2: CALENDULA OIL! This stuff IS magic and I ALWAYS have a glass jar full in my medicine cabinet. Simply rub it onto your hands to speed up healing of all the cracks and dryness. They will heal so fast you will be pleasantly surprised! . Calendula oil is THE best product for healing external wounds. It rapidly increases the rate of cell turnover and proliferation, meaning that it speeds up the rate at which your body gets rid of old cells and makes new cells to replace them. It is incredible at healing cuts and abrasions in almost no time and reducing the chance of scarring (IMPORTANT: It must not be used on gaping, open wounds, because it can heal them over so fast that the body doesn't have time to expel infection, effectively trapping it inside). . You can buy calendula oil at the health food store. You want to find pure calendula in a carrier oil, not mixed with anything else - straight up is best. If you can't find calendula oil in-store or online, I have a recipe to make your own at home in my Herbal Health Starter Bundle. Grab yours here: https://sacredhorse.com.au//herbal-health-starter-bundle-1/ See more

20.01.2022 World leaders are gathering for an 11th hour rescue plan for our planet. Agriculture accounts for at least a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture includes horses and to be honest, horse pastures are some of the worst maintained plots of land I have personally seen - over grazed with no top soil and no sustainability plan. What commitment will you make to help turn things around for our planet? Or what amazing things are you already doing?

20.01.2022 Wow. Four years ago already. Do you have a fire plan for your horse? When fires hit we dont always have time to get to our horses (think of the Pinery fires), but when there is an opportunity to help our horses every minute counts - that is why having a plan is essential.

20.01.2022 I found this old photo from when I first had Chippy as an 11 year old horse. I had forgotten how dark he had once been and how much thicker his mane once was. . #sabino #horse #horsesofinstagram #reminiscing #equinenaturopath #sacredhorse

16.01.2022 Some quick reminders for managing your horses in extreme heat. According to PIRSA: Animal owners are being reminded to take appropriate precautions to ensure they are properly cared for during the extreme temperatures forecast across the state this week.... There are a number of actions animal owners can take to reduce the adverse impact extreme heat can have on animal health and wellbeing including; Where possible make sure there is enough shade for your animals to seek shelter and protection from the blazing sun, with plenty of water supplied nearby. Ensure animals have access to sufficient cool water as they can drink up to double their normal intake during high temperatures. Keep animals away from dams which may become boggy and a danger for any stock seeking water. Use large and clean drinking troughs as evaporation may make trough water become saline and undrinkable. In hot weather troughs should be inspected daily to make sure they are working properly. Burying feeder pipes will help control water temperature and prevent breakages. During extreme temperatures animals should be checked regularly to make sure they are coping with the heat. Livestock owners should check on animals daily for signs of heat stress such as sweating, panting, and drooling. Stock may also be restless and start bellowing. Transport of animals both on and off the farm should be minimised during periods of extreme heat. If stock movement is absolutely necessary, then it should only be done during the night or early morning when temperatures are normally lower. Livestock transporters should also have contingency plans in case of an unexpected breakdown, as per national guidelines of movement of livestock.

16.01.2022 This horse had significant gastric ulcers and wasn’t responding well to standard treatment. I devised a personal herbal formulation taking into account his history and current circumstances. The formulation was sent to the Vet for approval as he was still on pharmaceutical medications. 15.01.2022 The end of an era.... I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to stop offering EMT (massage therapy) for the time being. After having a much needed break during Covid-19 closures, I realised just how much I have on my plate and want to shift my focus to other projects. What will continue: Agistment, online herbal and nutrition consults, as well as online product sales of Pink Goop, Blue Goo and my Herbal Starter Kit.... To all my loyal and long term clients - this has been a hard decision. I will miss seeing your smiling faces, hearing your stories and having the privilege of working on your horses! But I also know that there are plenty of amazing practitioners out there who do incredible work and will keep your horses feeling amazing I’m sure I will see you around - the horse community is always tight - and I look forward to seeing and hearing how you are all going through social media and other horse people

13.01.2022 Autumn leaves provide great compost for heavily worn-down areas. This prevents erosion and helps return nutrients to the soil. The horses help too by crushing the leaves into the ground as they walk over them. . I like to place leaves at gates where the horses spend a fair bit of time waiting for their people and their food. Once the leaf litter is down, I wet it to reduce wind spread and to help leech the nutrients out of the leaves and into the soil. In this pic, the horses are wondering whether the leaves are edible and questioning whether I am cruelly teasing them with inaccessible food. . 13.01.2022 Micronisation and Extrusion: The Healthier Grain Options Today I am sharing an article on purchasing "safer" grains for your horse. Many horses, particularly those in medium to intense work just can't eat enough roughage in a day to meet their higher energy demands, so the addition of grains to the diet is essential.... By selecting the right type of grains, you can reduce the risk of health problems associated with introducing grains into the diet. Click on the link below to read the article.

12.01.2022 Today, the Cuddlee Creek fire is still active, and many horse properties remain under threat. As other horse owners make their way back to properties and check ...houses and horses, not all news will be good. For horses: Burns may take several days to appear, so horses will need close inspections for at least the next 10 days. Water sources may be contaminated. Fire burns underground in root systems over several weeks, meaning the ground can collapse later (and be burning hot) when walking over it. There may also be horse owners who require discreet support for horse burial services. https://www.myhorsedisasterplan.org.au/after-a-disaster-1 See more

11.01.2022 A reminder on why it is so important to check rugged horses twice a day! I feed and rug/unrug twice per day. The pasture-only horses also get visually checked twice daily. This morning at my 5am feed Chippy was calmly standing at the fence but not coming over for breakfast. The reason? The front of his rug had clipped itself onto the fencing wire and he was stuck. I am meticulous to always turn the clips inward to prevent this from happening, but it can still happen! So grateful Chippy was calm and sensible about it and reminds me why I go out in the dark and cold at 5am so I can fix problems like that sooner rather than later!

09.01.2022 Every morning in Frankfurt, Germany, you might catch a glimpse of Jenny, a horse who goes on a long walk every morning, all by herself. She has been taking the ...same route every morning for 14 years, ever since her owner, now 79 years old, became unable to ride. She enjoys greeting all of the familiar faces along the way, and she stops and gets treats and pettings from some of her favorite humans. The locals treat her like a celebrity and happily clean up after her. A piece of paper is attached to her halter that reads, "My name is Jenny. I didnt run away, Im just walking. Thank you." But the police get calls frequently from people who don't know about the arrangement. They are very familiar with the horse and the owner, and there have been no incidents in 14 years. A local veterinarian gives her routine checkups and continues to find her to be healthy and showing no anxiety about her unique lifestyle.

05.01.2022 This is the difference between rotational grazing and constant grazing on soils. We rotationally graze and manage stock numbers to ensure there is ground cover all year round. As each year goes by, the soil gets better, the ground cover more dense and grasses stay greener for longer. Not only does this help the environment, but it saves on feed costs and keeps the horses healthier due to their ability to graze naturally on fresh plants.

01.01.2022 Totally agree with all of this. There are so many physically and mentally / emotionally damaged horses out there because people close their eyes to what their "breaker" does to get their horse under saddle. Or people want to break-in their own horse but don't truly have the experience to do it. If you want to train your own horse from scratch, get the right training to do it properly first or seek an experienced instructor to do it with you.

01.01.2022 I have a deep love of trees... and I have always gone against the flow of what local farmers have told me that trees reduce grass yield in paddocks. And I have gone against what National Resource Management have told me that water demanding trees take all the water from our dry country. I have watched over many years and seen this: - Shade trees have green grass around them all year around; and - Areas heavily populated with shade trees (large canopies) have more rain. My fee...l has always been that: - Shade trees prevent the grass from getting burnt by the hot Summer sun. Clearing fields is probably helpful in countries with low sunlight and cool temperatures where more sunlight to the ground is warming, but is too intense in an Australian Summer. - Trees pull water from underground reserves and release the water to the atmosphere to create more rain = less drought. I don't believe that the trees just grow better in higher rainfall areas. Trees have deep roots that can tap into underground resources and access water we cannot see. Trees tap into this water and create the rain, making the area higher rainfall. Now I see that trees also seed the rain. How incredibly amazing! So do the world a favour and plant those paddock trees. Dont clear them. And start now! Stop complaining about drought. Stop complaining about the cost of feed. Get off your backside and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. In fact, if you have the power and ability to do something, but still do nothing, then you have no right to complain. Need more inspiration? Remember that DVD, The Man Who Planted Trees that you were force fed 100 times at school? Watch it again and consider the difference one person and a bunch of seeds can make. See more
