Whether we’re aware of it or not, as leaders, we have ENORMOUS influence on how our staff feel about themselves, their abilities and their worth and ALL of that shows up in their PERFORMANCE.... What they SAY and what they DO reflect what they THINK about themselves, so this is where we must be very diligent to ensure that while we are building skills, we are also building PEOPLE. If you want to really see your team thrive, make a point to catch them doing things right. Recognise when they’ve made even small improvements and celebrate their wins no matter how small. In celebrating the small stuff, you are showing them what it feels like to achieve to excel to be a winner and once they experience this, they’re going to want MORE. They’ll want to do it again and again and again for you. You must believe in them long before they are ready to believe in themselves. You must see their potential long before they do, because initially, they’ll take those first scary steps, because YOU believe in them. not because they think they can actually do it! 25.01.2022 Sometimes we just can't see our way through. It's so much easier to just believe in the reasons why we CAN'T do it..... why it WON'T happen. That means we don't have to stretch ourselves. We don't have to risk messing it up. We can just stay where we are and believe there's nothing we can do.... But deep down, you know that's not true, right? You KNOW you could do it if you really wanted to. If you were prepared to dive in and get dirty. If you were willing to put yourself out there and have a go..... to risk messing it up... to risk criticism or judgement. You know it's YOUR CHOICE, right? Of course, you do. Whenever you're ready ........

24.01.2022 CHRISTMAS SALON MANAGEMENT TIP #3 Confirm your CANCELLATION LIST! Yep.... once you've confirmed your appointments, and confirmed the specific services you're holding time for..... confirm your cancellation list.... Why? Well, weeks ago, when they called to try to get in before Christmas and you were booked out, you offered to put them on a cancellation list for that day, right? But no one stays home and waits by the phone in case you call! They've probably completely forgotten they're on that list for today and they've likely made other plans. (P.S. please tell me you made a back-up appointment for them just in case when you couldn't get them in on their preferred day? If not... they're likely Googling to find another salon who CAN fit them in!) POSSIBLE OUTCOME: If you do find yourself with a no-show and are scrambling to fill it at the last moment, you'll waste precious time calling and leaving voicemail message after message for people who either don't answer or can't make it. Argggghhhhhhhh!!!! SOLUTION: Call your cancellation list 24 hours before and remove anyone who is not available at short notice should an opportunity arise. That way, you'll make one call, fill the spot and get back to your waiting clients instead of wasting 10 frustrating minutes on the phone. "Hi Katie, we have you on our cancellation list for tomorrow for a 1/2 head foils, cut and finish if anyone cancels. We're just waiting on final confirmations now, but if something does become available at short notice, could you be here within about 15 minutes if we call?" Yes? The first call you make is to her! "Katie? It's Julie. How's 10.15 today? Great, see you then!"

Let's face it...... as great as your team are in looking after their clients and helping each other out, even the best of them may lose a little focus in the middle of a crazy Christmas trade!... This is SUCH an important trading period and your results will completely depend on the actions of your team, so take a moment to ensure that you are keeping their focus and attention where it needs to be (while having a lot of fun!) REWARD THE ACTIONS THAT YOU WANT REPEATED! Keep them focused on the important aspects of client service with daily competitions. Create a fun name for each of your key KPIs and pick one for each day as your daily competition. Talk about why it's so important in your Morning Huddle and reward the best efforts and achievements in that area at the end of the day with a fun prize. You could try: - Consultation Champion (Highest $av per Client) - Supreme Problem Solver (Highest Total Retail $) - Queen/King of Consistency (Highest Av. Retail # per Client) - Clientele Builder (Highest Rebooking % - Wizard of 'WOW'!- Highest # extra services performed And let's not forget the solid, hard-working team members who show up reliably and give their best effort every day, but who may not be your best performers. Give them a shot at recognition and celebration by having your team VOTE for their team member of choice at the end of the day & the one with the most votes WINS! - Most Valuable Player- (Hard worker, consistently great client service plus keeps their area clean, helps out teammates, and is a DELIGHT to work with!) - Client Care Champion- (The team member who just went ABOVE & BEYOND to wow their clients that day) - Organisation Queen/King (The one who managed to wow their clients, stay on time AND keep their area clean! It's a fun way to keep their focus where it needs to be and to reward great effort through such a busy time.

22.01.2022 CHRISTMAS SALON MANAGEMENT TIP #1 Confirm earlier than usual. At this time of year, people are busy and tend to take longer to respond to your confirmation texts.... Meanwhile..... you've worked hard to rebook clients and ensure a full Christmas schedule... and you're no doubt turning away several last-minute callers a day, because you're holding those spots for clients who've booked ahead. But what if some of those clients have no intentions of keeping their appointment? Their plans have changed. they've changed their mind or for whatever reason, they've been meaning to call you but... they're busy. So, what's going to happen? You'll continue to turn away clients until that morning you walk into work and find a message on your voicemail. "I'm so sorry, but I have to work" "I'm so sorry but my child is sick" "I'm so sorry but I can't make my appointment today" She's meant to be here in 15 minutes, you've held 3 1/2 hours of precious time and now.... you're going to lose that entire chunk of income because it's too late to fill that spot with someone else. SOLUTION: Confirm at least 4-5 days prior to the appointment to give you enough time to juggle if spaces become available. Many are confirming a full week ahead right now. If they have not confirmed by 48 hours prior, get on that phone and keep contacting until you get your definite response or send a follow-up message: "Hi Jane, just checking in to confirm your appointment for....... We've left several messages but have not yet heard from you, so we're wondering if you might be away? We'll hold the appointment until tomorrow at 5pm, and then release it to someone on our waiting list if we haven't heard from you and we'll be in touch in the new year to reschedule" If they're getting your messages but not making the effort to respond, you watch how fast they'll respond to that one! Otherwise, if no response, now you can be confident to remove that appointment block and secure with another confirmed (and very grateful!) client. 09.01.2022 CHRISTMAS SALON MANAGEMENT TIP #2 Confirm SPECIFIC services. You've got a full appointment book and you're sending your SMS confirmations (hopefully 4-7 days ahead right now) and you're thinking everything should be hunky-dory, right?... Not necessarily! What if Stephanie has confirmed her 9am appointment.... but has completely forgotten that back in September when you booked her ahead for Christmas, you agreed together that she would have her full heads foils done this time, rather than just half. Or that back then, she thought it would be a fabulous idea to have a body treatment and facial to pamper herself, as well as her regular pedicure..... but when she arrives on the day.... she's completely forgotten! Your SMS message just said 'confirm your APPOINTMENT' - which she has - but you're still about to lose a chunk of income AND throw your schedule into chaos when she arrives, you begin your consultation and she says..... "Oh... no I don't need the facial thanks... just do the pedicure" Or.... "Oh, I don't have time for the colour today... let's just do the haircut". You've held 3.5 hours...... but now you'll be paid for 1.... after turning away DOZENS of callers begging for that spot. And..... if you think about it... if you were applying colour first... her cut appointment is not until 11am... but she's here at 9am, wondering what the problem is! There goes your schedule (and budget!) for the day! To prevent this happening to you: 1- Confirm your appointments at least 4-7 days ahead 2- Confirm the ACTUAL services you're holding time for That way, if there are any changes, you'll discover them now so you have time to accommodate if possible. "Hi Steph, thanks for confirming your appointment for Thursday at 9am. As we're working to a fully booked schedule, I just need to confirm the exact services we're holding time for, for you. We'll be doing a full head foils, toner, treatment, design cut and blowdry finish, is that correct?" For those holding deposits as security, the services confirmed at this point are the minimum services charged on the day. It's also a great opportunity to offer those last-minute party season services they may have forgotten like brow shape & tint, lash tint etc, if you have capacity to do them. 07.01.2022 It's often said that 'everything we want is on the other side of fear.' - Taking the plunge and backing ourself into that new location - Having the tough conversation you've been avoiding with the staff member whose behaviour is driving you crazy... - Having the courage to correct your prices after years of under-charging (and telling yourself you CAN’T charge more because of your clients/area etc) - Maybe even reducing your working hours to prioritise time with family, to grow your business .. or even just for you. Everything you dream of happening within your business is possible...... IF you're courageous enough to get uncomfortable and do what that takes. It's simply just a series of steps or actions..... but where you stop or what you believe is possible..... will be determined by your fear. **Here's a secret** ... Successful people feel the same fear you do..... but they refuse to be limited by it. They do the research and then back themselves and JUMP..... And often learn how to do it on the way down! "But, what if I fall, you say? Ohhh..... but what if you FLY!!"

Staff panic a little and go into what we call 'Survival Mode'. (Get 'em in, get 'em out so we don't run behind!)... Your turnover may still increase as you're seeing 80% of your client base within a 3-week time frame, but all of your important 'vital signs' completely crash! - Av $ Client DOWN - Recommended Retail % DOWN - Rebooking % DOWN That means that after all your hard work all year to polish and maximise your client experience, they're right back to working HARDER, not SMARTER. Those clients are getting ONLY what they remembered to book for. There'll be NO exciting new ideas being offered and your clients will walk out with the same frustrations and concerns that bother them at home between visits that they walked in with. Opportunity lost. Big...... HUGE! STRATEGIC ACTION TIP: Get your team together and talk about 'What they HATE about working Christmas!' (Yes, that's tongue-in-cheek but they'll tell you how it is!) It will be things like: - Clients arriving late and still expecting all of their services done - Clients demanding additional services not booked, & - Not sitting down/having a lunch break until Christmas day! If we can talk about it, we can create a plan and avoid a train wreck on the day, PLUS they won't be stressing about it happening because they'll know exactly what to do.
