25.01.2022 Memories from a very busy night 12 months ago.

25.01.2022 THANK YOU FOR 140 YEARS Today, September 5 2020, marks 140 years since The Salvation Army in Australia was first established. During that time, over 5 MILLION VOLUNTEERS have given their time to support Aussies in need, allowing us to support millions more doing it tough. Thank you. On this day 140 years ago, two converts of The Salvation Army from the United Kingdom held a meeting in Botanic Park Adelaide where they famously invited "anyone who hasnt had a meal today" to... come home with them. They then wrote to William Booth and asked him to send officers of The Salvation Army who formally established the movement here in Australia the following year. 140 years of serving Australians - from a meal invitation in an Adelaide park, to transformed lives wherever there is hardship and injustice. #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #LeaveNoOneInNeed #emergencyservices

24.01.2022 A conversation could change a life. If you feel like somethings not quite the same with someone you know theres something going on in their life or you notice a change in what theyre saying or doing - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them Are you OK? You dont have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before theyre in ...crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. 23.01.2022 We believe that no one should have to go it alone. When a disaster strikes were ready to meet people at their point of need. Our emergency support workers will provide immediate assistance with cash and goods - no long forms to fill out or waiting periods. When a disaster strikes we know people need help, fast. But when the emergency is over, we dont pull out. We step up our services to reflect the needs of the community. Our support is long-term, meaning years, ...not months. Where we help We provide medium and long-term disaster assistance after significant natural or man-made disasters such as: Bush fires Floods Storm damage Earthquakes Droughts The Salvation Army Strategic Emergency and Disaster Management Team is responsible for: The delivery of welfare services for people affected by disasters including emergency food, material aid and accommodation, as well as personal support services and financial support. Catering to disaster affected people, Emergency Service personnel such as Police, Ambulance, Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Services, SES etc and TSA Emergency Services catering capability is well established. Our fieldwork reinforces the perception of TSA as an organisation that steps up to help and support the community as required. This can do approach is part of TSAs culture. Meeting People at their point of need and giving Hope where Hope is needed most. Our biggest challenge in Disaster Management is Maintaining the Trust and Confidence of the community we serve in the face of adversity. Through the Principles of Emergency Management Preparation: (preparedness) to enhance capacity of agencies and communities to cope with the consequences of emergencies Response: to ensure the immediate consequences of emergencies to communities are minimised Recovery: measures which support individuals and communities affected by emergencies in the of physical, emotional, environment and economic well-being. Prevention: (Mitigation) to eliminate or reduce the level of the risk or severity of emergencies

16.01.2022 The Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams of volunteers provide emergency catering in times of disaster or crisis. About The Salvation Army Emergency Services The aim of the SAES is to support people and communities at their point of need, and to ensure emergency service workers and volunteers are also catered for.... Whether its a natural disaster like a cyclone, flood, bushfire or earthquake, or an incident such as a transport accident, structure fire or missing person search, SAES teams will be on the ground supporting those on the frontline of the emergency. While SAES teams are one of the first groups of Salvos to respond to a disaster, this is closely followed by more Salvos who work with communities through the recovery process. The Salvation Army has developed a strong relationship with state governments so as to provide a coordinated response to ensure the best service delivery possible is achieved. SAES teams may be tasked to work in evacuation centres from small community halls to major city showgrounds. They may be in the field supporting emergency service agencies from built-up areas to farmers paddocks and getting alongside the community as the clean-up begins.

01.01.2022 From the ground of Hurricane Sally SALVATION ARMY RELIEF EFFORTS BEGIN IN THE PANHANDLE IN THE WAKE OF HURRICANE SALLY. September 17, 2020 Steve Dick |... SALVATION ARMY RELIEF EFFORTS BEGIN IN THE PANHANDLE IN THE WAKE OF HURRICANE SALLY. Lutz, FL (September 17, 2020) - As the sun rose Thursday morning the sounds of chainsaws filled the air and the work towards recovery had begun as the impact from Hurricane Sally was apparent as record levels of rain had fallen across the Panhandle leaving thousands without power, streets flooded and impassable and homes and businesses ruined from the water damage. Captain Herb Frazier III. Pensacola corps officer, reports that many of the roadways have trees down blocking movement including around the corps building which is preventing them from accessing their property and the canteen that is located there. Power remains down at the corps as well with no timeline as of yet on when it might be restored. With power in question the possibility of moving the Incident Command Center to an alternative site is being considered. Our partners, the Florida Baptists, are setting up their large feeding kitchen at the Hillscrest Baptist Church located at 800 E 9 Mile Road in Pensacola to provide hot meals and is planning to begin preparing 5,000 meals on Friday for delivery by Salvation Army mobile feeding units. The nine canteens that were staged at Camp Keystone over night are now making their way across the Panhandle enroute to Pensacola, but major transportation routes including Interstate I-10 northeast of Pensacola is closed at Crestview which could mean finding alternative routes in to the affected area and delaying their arrival. In Ft. Walton Beach, Lt. James Milner, corps officer, reports that conditions seem to be more favorable as power is being restored across the area and that many of his employees were able to get into work this morning. Major Ed Binnix the corps officer in Panama City indicated that flood waters had not receded but was able to dispatch two teams to provide 500 meals in two apartment complexes near-by that were just recently renovated from Hurricane Michael and once again have been damaged and flooded out.
