24.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual abuse at the hands of an intimate partner (WHO stats). The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden. If you or someone you know needs help, please call 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) or contact your nearest Salvation Army centre for referral to one of our women's services.

23.01.2022 Salvos across the country have been working hard to help Australians in need as the COVID-19 crisis has pushed so many into a state of emotional and financial hardship. Our teams have assisted more than 40,000 people with emergency relief assistance between April and July. Our figures show that in July alone, of the people helped with emergency relief, 30 per cent were a direct result of the pandemic. As the fallout of the pandemic continues, we expect to see more people reach out for assistance. Thank you to everyone who has helped us leave no one in need To learn more, go to: https://fal.cn/3aonb

20.01.2022 We will remember them. The Salvation Army around the world today recognises the 101st anniversary of the WW1 armistice, commemorated as Remembrance Day here in Australia. While the armistice did not last, we remember those that served, those that continue serve and those that work for peace in our world. ... Pictured are Salvation Army chaplains and nurses with soldiers in Egypt during WW1.

13.01.2022 On this day 140 years ago, two converts of The Salvation Army from the United Kingdom held a meeting in Botanic Park Adelaide where they famously invited "anyone who hasn't had a meal today" to come home with them. They then wrote to William Booth and asked him to send officers of The Salvation Army who formally established the movement here in Australia the following year. 140 years of serving Australians - from a meal invitation in an Adelaide park, to transformed lives wh...erever there is hardship and injustice. This is Pro Hart's painting "Meeting in the park", remembering that occasion on September 5, 1880.
