18.01.2022 A new dish at the platter

18.01.2022 To all the sandwich platter Facebook family, some of you may already have heard the news, that I received to vacate the premises. Which has been home and work for 19 years this Christmas . The redevelopment in Hawthorn finally got me!! There is only four weeks left to trade. So as I work through this time saying goodbye, my last day will come too quickly.... Since 1996 this little shop on Glenferrie Road Hawthorn has just about seen it all! Famous visitors like a Prime Minister, movie stars, TV Personalities, Radio stars, Musicians and many sporting heroes and legends some of whom became regulars to the platter. With stats reading like.....over 220,000 sandwiches made, 60,000 hand made YoYo biscuits, 15,000 trays of hot food(ie: lasagna, shepherds pie etc.) 7200kg pumpkin(all chopped by hand). Cakes that would out tower the Eureka tower if stacked. And countless other cookies, slices and treats. Enough soup to fill a swimming pool. Then there are the produce numbers.... 9000kg tomatoes, 34,500 smashed Avocados 5700kg carrots, 4000kg zucchini , 1900 cabbages 8550 lettuce, I lost count of how many potatoes I peeled , but you can all understand why. And over 5000kg of chocolate (all put to good use of course) But creating something from these ingredients was just in a days work to provide fresh every day! I'm THANKFUL for the blessings, support and beautiful friendships I have gathered through these years. I feel blessed and honoured to have been part of such a supportive community, their support has helped my business and personal life though many challengers along this small businesses journey. (For example 5 floods in 10 years) TO ALL MY STAFF over the years, who laughed, cried and rejoiced with me through floods, loss, business growth and down turns, dishes and dishes, motherhood twice while working full time, Dishes and more dishes, helping me with what ever work needed to be done, by rising to the daily challenges with me. I THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!! And thanks to my daughters dad for the early morning setting up and the market runs when the girls were little. To the people who sat for a while loving the food, coffee, music,or just my little shop with the retro lounge, I thank you too! To the country folk who visited 3, 6, or 12 months when here for appointments...I say thanks for the stories , the barra and your country charm. Thanks to all the local mums and dads who patroned regularly . And a special thanks goes out to MATT PETERS who rose to the challenge to help me give the shop a facelift ( lick of paint) and bring the laughter back . I am truly grateful. So I will be looking for work to start early 2015 and somewhere to live for me and my two girls(near there schools in hawthorn) as that would be best for now. So a new chapter awaits me I guess! And purchasing bulk tissues starts tomorrow But keep watching this space as it might just pop up news from time to time. Sam,Millicent and Phoebe

03.01.2022 Well that day came and went The sandwich platter is now closed. Opened August 1994 I took over December 1996 Last day of trade ... 19 December 2014 The best people pushed open the door of the platter. They were the adventures. What they found was a place that offered more then sandwiches. Well that's what they have written and told me over the past 12 weeks. I THANK YOU ALL THE KIND WORDS, GIFTS AND YOUR SUPPORT.
