23.01.2022 FRESH IS BEST From the Ayurvedic viewpoint, freshly cooked and homemade food is starting point for ultimate healing, maintaining and nourishing of the entire body system. Ayurveda teaches us a holistic lens when it comes to diet and food. It is not just about what you eat, but how you cook, what combinations you choose and the environment to which you consume your food. When you consider all of the above, it is no wonder that your diet lifestyle deeply effects your... health long term. Either for sped-up deterioration, or relatively symptom-free flourishing. In accordance to Ayurveda, many nutrient deficiencies, weight issues, imbalanced blood sugar levels, digestive diseases, side effects after eating, malabsorption and low energy levels can be attributed to eating high amounts of "dead food" in our daily diets. WHAT IS DEAD FOOD? Leftovers past 24 hours Fresh produce stored in the fridge past 3 days Microwaved foods and drinks Canned foods Processed foods Frozen foods Pre-packaged meals Whoa, seems like a lot doesn't it?! Not to worry or stress, there are many ways to slowly start shifting your diet to a more alive, fresh and healing foundation. Click the link below to read the full article. I outline some super simple, really effective strategies in enhancing the vitality, flavour and medicinal benefits to your food. Happy reading my friends, please comment below with any questions you may have Light and love, T x https://www.thesattvacentre.com/post/fresh-is-best

21.01.2022 WHY HEATED WATER ON YOUR HEAD IS A NO-GO I get many inquiries through the clinic on Ayurvedic strategies for strengthening hair - whether it be dry/brittle hair, dandruff, hair fall, early greying or slow growing locks. One of the quickest, most simple ways to improve your hair across the board is please, please stop using heated water on your head. ... In accordance to the Ayurvedic texts, using warmed water on the head lessens the strength of your hair, your vision and even weakens the body/mind system as a whole. A nice warm shower is beneficial for the body - relieving tension, pain, poor circulation and is just the ultimate comfort during these cold Winter months. However, on the head is bad news. Water should be tepid at the absolute highest in temperature, ideally cool and fresh. You might also find in using cool water on the head, your mind feels clearer, your facial skin less hot and inflamed, as well as improving the quality, quantity and length of your hair. This principle also crosses over to frequent use of heated drying techniques like hair dryers and straighteners. Please let your hair dry naturally whenever possible. If you’re keen to know more on how to support your lovely locks with Ayurveda, stay tuned! 16.01.2022 THE REALITY OF FOOD WASTE Ayurveda stresses that in order for optimum health to be maintained, we must understand and live in alignment with nature. In this regard, food waste is an indication of living beyond our means and out of sync with nature on so many levels. To live well individually and globally, we must honour the source that provides for us.... The incredible team from @ozharvest have some facts to share when it comes to this very topic: There is actually enough food produced in the world to feed everyone. 1/3 of all food produced is lost or wasted around 1.3 billion tonnes of food. 1 in 9 people do not have enough food to eat, that’s 793 million people who are undernourished. If 1/4 of the food currently lost or wasted could be saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people. Almost half of all fruit and vegetables produced are wasted (that’s 3.7 trillion apples). 8% of greenhouse gases heating the planet are caused by food waste. Eliminating global food waste would save 4.4 million tonnes of C02 a year, the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road. They are some frightening stats. As always, it all starts with us individually through becoming aware of our own practices. Our new video, released today, will share 5 super simple strategies you can adopt to minimise food waste. Therefore, hopefully stopping some awesome, flavoursome and vital produce from landing in the bin. Link below . Live consciously my friends. 14.01.2022 RAW VS. COOKED FOOD There is a long standing Ayurvedic proverb - you are not what you eat, you are what you digest. In Ayurveda, it all boils down to digestion. If you can digest your food properly, assimilate nutrients and adequately eliminate waste - you’re on the path to optimum health. ... I get asked all the time in the clinic and by the community, why Ayurveda only promotes cooked foods. And to this, I answer - it doesn’t. What Ayurveda encourages is an understanding of Self, and how we are all unique in constitution, our digestive capacity, imbalances and symptoms. In addition to, we are always in exchange with the external season, climate and our living environment. Our diets ultimately, should continuously change as our health needs and external environments shift. For certain body types, imbalances, times of year and other circumstances, cooked food will be of greatest service. In opposition, same can be said for raw food. Although generally for many body types and health needs, Ayurveda will promote cooking food to make it easier for your body to digest. So in saying this, how do we then know the best food prep that suits us? Simply put, draw close attention to how you feel you eat. If after a meal you experience bloating, pain, indigestion, nausea, disturbed elimination process - something isn’t working for you. Especially if it’s a continuous experience. The best way to identify how your unique constitution and digestive capacity works, seek your local Ayurvedic Practitioner or Doctor for support. This is a great place to start, but also, if you have any questions please DM or comment below and I will be happy to help. Light and love, T x See more

13.01.2022 NEW RECIPE ON THE BLOG: PESTO I adore Italian food. An Italian restaurant is one of my favourite choices when I go out. I love the bold, punchy flavours but also the beautiful, fresh simplicity that goes with Italian cuisine. However, with the often high tomato, garlic, onion and protein-heavy components to Italian food, much of it can be Pitta-aggravating in accordance to Ayurvedic principles. Hence why I love this little pesto recipe - bold in flavour, completely pla...nt based, totally nutritious and made in less than 5 minutes. Link below my friends to the full recipe on the blog - also to include multiple serving suggestions of how to diversely introduce pesto into your weeknight and quick meal choices. 11.01.2022 NEW RECIPE: SEMOLINA Semolina is a deliciously warming, nourishing meal that deeply pacifies the Vata dosha. It makes for a heavenly breakfast or afternoon snack during the peak Vata season of mid-late Autumn and early Winter. Semolina can be part of a Vata-pacifying diet generally, but be mindful if you are Pitta or Kapha inclined, to consume it minimally due to its warming and heavy property.... 06.01.2022 NEW RECIPE: WHOLE-ROASTED CAULIFLOWER WITH SPICED YOGHURT DRESSING Unquestionably, cauliflower is one of my favourite vegetables. Cooked well, it adds a delicious Earthy flavour and beautiful texture to a meal. Growing up, sometimes as a treat, we would have a whole-cooked cauliflower with cheese sauce or even more decadent, a cheesy cauliflower and potato bake. ... Building upon this memory, I have developed my Ayurvedic approach to the whole-cooked cauliflower using a slow-roasting method with coconut and lemon, dressing the masterpiece with a beautifully spiced coconut yoghurt and fresh herbs. 05.01.2022 WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER HEAT HONEY Would you just look at this unbelievably gorgeous piece of raw honeycomb? Nature is one fine artist. Raw honey is considered to be liquid gold in Ayurveda. This truly miraculous substance is used primarily for its healing qualities in Ayurvedic science, but the taste is an added and welcomed bonus. ... However when heated and boiled, honey becomes toxic and tar-like, creating deep disturbance in your digestive tract over time. It hinders your body to absorb nutrients effectively and is a very tricky toxin to clear. Heating honey includes baking with it, adding it to a cup of tea with boiling water and using it as a marinade for meats or glazes for cakes. I have written a post on the blog going into further detail and research around heating honey and its effects on health. In addition, the article explores the multiple benefits of honey and how you can introduce it into your daily diet. Link below Enjoy your honey my friends, just raw and never cooked! What I truly love is creating wholesome, flavoursome, Ayurveda-inspired treats you can feel good about. Zucchini as a possible dessert or morning tea? Oh yes, absolutely. ... It is not often zucchini is used in a sweet context, but believe it or not, this humble little veggie can absolutely sing in a cake, bread or slice. This recipe encompasses all my favourite ingredients for a truly delicious sweet bread - spices, raisins, nuts and a warm, soft crumb.
