21.01.2022 Today, I got fired by my longest-standing client. It sounds grim but bear with me. The year was 2015 and I'd just launched my very first business. I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed freelancer who was eager to land my first client.... We met in a Facebook group. There was a call for a social media guru to help grow this humble little business. After a bit of back and forth, we jumped on a call and I was HIRED. I could hardly believe my luck, a PROPER client. WOW. I set to work knowing I was MADE for this. I spent evenings researching. I refined my skills. I bombarded my client with idea after idea. It wasn't long before my hard work paid off and her conversion rate increased along with her following and bottom line. I was stoked! Slowly but surely this business transaction turned into a friendship. We spent evenings emailing about our wayward sons, we chatted about our business goals, we had D+M's about gender stereotyping and how we would both break through the glass ceiling. WITH a baby on our hips. We supported each other through a subsequent pregnancy each. We compared notes about sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, wine choices and digital marketing. We continued to shape and mould our relationship. Eventually, we met and our kids played. Our husbands bonded and even went on to become Facebook friends so they could talk about footy! Fast forward to now, and that humble little business has grown. So much so that my gorgeous client went on to sell it to a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed new owner. Here's to being fired and here's to client relationships that become lifelong friendships

17.01.2022 2020. WHAT. A. YEAR. Hands up if you're reeling right now? I'm working with many businesses who have had to 'pivot' [fkn hate that word RN] to survive this pandemic. I'm watching as business idols, favourite cafes, kickass hairdressers and MORE are closing, changing, adjusting and it's just HEARTBREAKING ... Personally and professionally? It's kicked me right in the gonads. Budgets have been adjusted. Clients have had no option but to pause. And, I'm doing the 24/7 kid shuffle while trying to keep my little business afloat. It's HARD. Now, most who actually know me would know I'm quite the pessimist. I would LOVE to be one of those shiny, positive people but, I plan for the worst. Always. I know, it's not the ideal way to conduct yourself but for that reason, I'm ok. Like emotionally. Almost like I was waiting for this BIG BAD event to happen and now that it's here? I've got my runners on ready for the marathon. To find the colour within the grey, I've committed to spreading kindness wherever I go. Last week, I purchased a coffee for a nurse. I left a care package on my elderly neighbours' doorstep. I bought a gift voucher to support my hair salon. I did some pro-bono work to keep my local cafe afloat. I don't know about you but giving helps me carry on. It gives me the warm and fuzzies and suddenly, life seems a little rosier. How are YOU going?

13.01.2022 Just got an EDM approved and yup, goosebumps Via Pixelo

12.01.2022 Sometimes, my clients let me go rouge and write in *my* tone of voice. As much as I love writing for brands, it's nice to ramble in my native tongue You can read my take on winter skin, Tiger King and the current economic climate below. P.S. Actually, I think I stuck to winter skin this time. Might change it up in my next guest piece

12.01.2022 I feel so seen

12.01.2022 Ok. That was CLOSE I’ve just submitted a MAJOR piece of work that has been a while in the making. For an incredible NFP. One I’ve admired for SO long. Fun fact: pre-savvy, I was a campaign coordinator for a charity. It was such a fulfilling role ... It was nice to get back to my community-focussed roots P.S. Instagram’s answer to TikTok, REELS, officially launched today. This is my very first one

11.01.2022 Take what you need You know, this whole CV-19 sitch has been a wild ride. I mean, the sheer terror of a pandemic for starters! Thow in the overwhelm of having both children home 24/7 while trying to work and BAM. You got yourself a hot pot of emotion. It's a LOT right? RIGHT?!!! ... But you know what? Business isn't dead. In actual fact, I've signed 2 dream clients in the past month! The economy is still going. Yes, it's slower. Yes, it's changed. But that doesn't mean you can't and shouldn't promote your goods. Right now, you gotta be out there marketing your business. Show your followers why your product or service is top-notch. Pivot your messaging to align with the current state of play. Give them a tangible reason to purchase. Address their pain points and alleviate them. Most of all, focus on what you CAN do. For me, that means getting killer results for my clients. It means positioning them to come out of this shining. It also means protecting my family. And you know what? I'm so incredibly thankful that I've been able to keep those monsters safe through all of this Illustration by the amazing v@sasa_elebea

06.01.2022 5 Things I Love About You 1 You pick me up when I've literally had two hours sleep because my kids are of the non-sleeping variety. 2 You give me a reason to chat with random people at my local @cafedezire [they are highly skilled baristas!] 3 You give me the perseverance to meet all the deadlines 4 You make me stop and take a break and ponder all the things. ... 5 You put the espresso in martini's, literally It's #InternationalCoffeeDay folks! I know EVERYONE says they *love* coffee but I am a lifelong fan. My Poppa gave me my first sip at 8. In European culture, it's not frowned upon to let kids try it and TBH, I was *all* for it. In a previous life, I was the Marketing Assitant at @grinderscoffee and I got to drink my fav for FREE. It was a sweet deal. Tell me, what's YOUR coffee order? Mine is Flat White, Almond Milk w/1.

03.01.2022 Um shouldn’t laugh but

02.01.2022 Client Spotlight Patrick and the crew @uxwriterscollective approached me to rejuvenate their social media presence. Swipe to see the before pic. They had the words, they had the offers, they were simply lacking someone to put it all together. ... I love a good grid makeover and I have to say, I'm super pleased with the results of this one Patrick's feedback? "The UX Writers Collective needed someone to help improve our social media. Marissa helped us establish a consistent stream of posts that not only helped us focus on bigger strategy projects but increased our engagement. I'd recommend Marissa for any business that needs to hire someone competent and moreover, consistent, in order to focus on the bigger picture. Not to mention, Marissa is flexible and a joy to work with! " Shucks, thanks team! P.S. I've got something *very* exciting brewing over here at Savvy HQ. Hint: it will enable YOU to set your socials on fire, the savvy way

01.01.2022 When your client asks you to be PART of their marketing campaign rather than just run it Luckily twinning with my mini is actually one of my fav pass times. It helps that I love the shoes. And the client. Always going over and above here at Savvy, that’s for sure
