24.01.2022 Webster Street. The Scape Artist team created this garden last year. And for the finishing touches under the veranda, what could be better than an extra little splash of greenery. Great job Rob & Mitch!

22.01.2022 Let’s Talk About Wicking Beds Wick beds are the brain child of yet another clever Aussie! Wicking beds water plants from below rather than above. They're basically containers with water reservoirs at the base - like a giant self-watering pot. Moisture is drawn up through the soil via a process called capillary action or wicking. This allows moisture to be more evenly distributed through the soil, creating better growing conditions for the plants. The Scape Artist has been using these for the past few years with great success. As you can see by the range of different sizes and shapes created by one of our team members, Mick, they are incredibly adaptable and efficient, doubling your produce and halving your water use!

20.01.2022 To our beautiful clients and fellow garden lovers, Understandably there is anxiety in the community surrounding Australia’s response to fighting and containing the covid-19 crisis. People in our community have lost jobs through no fault of their own, so please help where you can (even if it’s just a roll of TP!) Take a moment to think about a few ways you can support your mental health during this time. For me, music plays a vital role in keeping me on track, and now that we... are spending more time at home, may your favourite tunes drown out all the ‘noise’ and cleanse your mind. Other proven mood lifters are exercise and gardening! Since the gym closures have been introduced, get out in the garden if you are lucky enough to have one, which I think is the best form of therapeutic exercise! Keep it simple if your not a green thumb Weed a section of the garden Pick up the leaves Clip hedges back Grab a few flowers (or just some short branch’s with nice foliage will do) for a vase inside Grab an indoor plant from the local nursery, greenery inside makes a big difference Say G’day to your neighbour over the fence And most of all, take some time to stop and smell the roses because the fast paced world we knew will be back. 1. Promote the things in your world that you are GRATEFUL for 2. Practice EMPATHY 3. Be aware of MINDFULNESS Go well, Your Garden Team

17.01.2022 Let’s talk about ‘Garden Maintenance’ There’s so many things you can do in the garden, but let’s start with the basics *Use a good quality liquid fertiliser to give plants and lawns a quick boost. This is generally the best option during summer, as it won’t be the foliage unlike granular/pellet form fertiliser can. Use the slow release fertilisers pre and post summer-maxicrop, dynamiclifter, osmocote. **If you have tall fescue turf, cut on the highest setting (about 50mm)...it performs best when it’s kept abit longer, unlike your warm season grasses like buffalo, couch and kikuyu. These grasses thrive during our summer but lay dormant over winter, brown they will brown off for at least a few months. Make sure your mower blades are nice and sharp so they cut cleanly rather then tearing the grass. ***As a general rule, plants will appreciate a trim after flowering. Most of the perennials we use in our new gardens just want a really good haircut once a year, which removes all of the old growth and encourages a new flush. Keep your hedge trimmers & secateurs nice and sharp for a clean pruning cut ****Spring is a great time of year in the garden, with lots of plants coming back to life from winter. Once you have got on top of your weeds, fertilise with a slow realise fertiliser and mulch before summer to help lock in the ground moisture and suppress any new weeds ***** We all generate a heap of food scraps. A few years ago I bought my first worm farm. Hungry Bin have invented a brilliant system that’s really easy to setup & use. Worm castings are the richest natural fertiliser known to humans, they are packed with minerals that are essential for plant growth, such as concentrated nitrates, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and calcium. Then there’s the worm ‘juice’ which is a liquid fertiliser that can be diluted in a watering can and used to give plants a quick boost Now that we all might be spending abit more time at home, make some time to get out in the garden Willow & Stone Estate Landscaping Victoria Master Landscapers
