24.01.2022 Often ignored but totally necessary, self-care is any action or behavior that helps a person avoid health problems. Excessive stress may increase your risk for heart problems, for example. So, by definition, stress relief can help someone keep their ticker ticking. Self-care also helps us sharpen our mental and physical health through better self-esteem, stress management, and overall well-being. These behaviors help provide balance in an increasingly overstimulating world. S...elf-care forms an essential part of a lifestyle that keeps us healthy, happy, and more in tune with our minds and bodies. The problem is, you probably aren’t doing enough of it.

19.01.2022 Social media has become increasingly common with an estimated 3.6 billion users worldwide, and that number is projected to grow to almost 4.5 billion by 2025. And even though social media has fundamentally altered how we communicate with one another, scientists are still researching potential health implications, especially for mental health. However, evidence indicates that social media may contribute to depressive symptoms, especially amongst younger populations.
16.01.2022 Who are we at The Self Centre? We believe that everyone already has within them a set of values, strengths, and skills that will help them grow and heal. Our job is to provide a space that allows everyone to feel safe enough to explore their vulnerability and develop a positive regard for themselves in effort to heal and live their best life. The Self Centre our name was born from the ethos that in order to live a healthy life full of vitality and wellbeing, we have to ...know ourselves (strengths and weaknesses) and become centred and grounded in ourselves. We must value ourselves enough to invest in the self-care and self-awareness required to heal and grow. Our aim at The Self Centre is to offer people an opportunity to be accompanied in their journey towards self-awareness, self-growth and self-healing. Learn more here: https://buff.ly/3oEUbZr
16.01.2022 It can be hard to know where to begin when supporting someone who is anxious especially as we all experience anxiety differently, and at varying levels. Not everyone has lots of people they can rely on for support, either. So what can you do?
15.01.2022 Establishing a routine that recognizes the body’s natural response to light and dark can help keep your circadian rhythms in sync. Here are some expert-recommended strategies to move toward optimal circadian health.
13.01.2022 as anyone ever told you that you were moody when you were feeling tired? Even though you may not want to hear it it’s probably true. Lack of sleep does not only make you feel horrible, it also affects your emotional well-being. After a sleepless night, you are more susceptible to being short-tempered and irritable, which in turn can lead to stress. When you are deprived of sleep, daily hassles can turn into a major effort and cause frustration, making it much harder to cope with tasks. Studies have shown that even partial sleep deprivation has a significant effect on mood, let alone reoccurring instances.
09.01.2022 Let's have a conversation with Lyndsay, The Self Centre's Director... "The heart-beat of my job is the therapeutic work that I do. I feel grateful to be able to accompany people in their lives. I also spend a lot of my week working with my team to build strong practices, developing trusting relationships with our referring doctors so that we offer comprehensive quality care, learning and reading to ensure that I am abreast with quality evidence-based treatment protocol. 04.01.2022 It may sound like a cliche, but how does that make you feel? is a very important question that we psychologists often ask. There are several reasons why understanding your feelings is so important, both in therapy and in life.
02.01.2022 We’ve all had the experience of saying something we regret, wishing the floor would swallow us up whole, or momentarily wishing we were flexible enough from yoga to literally insert our foot into our mouth . But beyond blunders and bloopers, we’ve all struggled to effectively communicate and be heard by others. Practicing mindful speech may prove challenging, but the rewards of effective and positive communication that causes less harm to everyone are well worth it .
02.01.2022 Practicing meditation doesn’t involve a whole new set of tools. It works so well because it enhances life skills we already have! Anywhere stress plays a role in our problems, meditation can have a potential role in its relief. Click the link below to discover how to focus during your mediations .
02.01.2022 The pandemic has been a tremendous strain on our mental health. But if we look at this year with a glass-half-full mentality, COVID-19 has also brought about some valuable lessons that we can learn from and use beyond this pandemic year. https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au//5-mental-health/news-story
02.01.2022 These days, time for yourself may be close to nonexistent. Yet, to be fully present for your kids, you should, as the saying goes, put your own oxygen mask on first. Ideally, we’d all have time to engage in meaningful hobbies or at least get a solid break to check out every now and then. But right now, you may have to steal whatever time you can get for yourself even while you’re taking care of your kids all day (and potentially trying to work, too). Here are some ideas for self-care no matter how tight you are on time.
02.01.2022 When you ask a friend How are you? you usually get a short, surface-level response. Rarely does the recipient reveal much, if anything, about how they’re actually doing even if we sincerely want to know the answer. Why is that?
