22.01.2022 Welcome to Virtual Camp Jabiru 2020! We at The Sensory Gym are heartbroken that we cannot be with you in person and share with you the magical experience that would have been Camp Jabiru 2020. At its very essence Camp Jabiru is about connection, and during this time of uncertainty and disruption, connection is more important than ever! We know that many of you will also be missing our time together. So please join us in our virtual Jabiru experiences! A private facebook g...roup has been set up for our virtual camp. Please click on the link to join www.facebook.com/groups/701403863701345/ There will be a Jabiru challenge posted each day this week (starting 20/4) that you can enjoy with your family or other loved ones! At the end of the week, we will be posting a virtual campfire. We hope you will share in the fun and laughter that were part of creating the virtual campfire! We also encourage you to post your favourite Camp Jabiru memories or thoughts to share with the rest of the Camp Jabiru tribe. We’d love to hear from you, and we’d love to keep the spirit of Jabiru close this week! I have so many memories of Jabiru, it’s hard to single out just one! I only know after 31 years of being part of camp programs as an occupational therapist, the week of camp is still my favourite week of the year. The closing campfire of each Jabiru brings smiles and tears of gratitude and wonder in equal measure. It is hard to rival the experience of sitting at the back of the group during that last campfire and witnessing all of the connection and collected beingness that has been nurtured and nourished during the week. A special shout-out to the entire team of The Sensory Gym for being the amazing people you are. You have risen to the challenge of these unknown times with grace, humour, and a continued sense of team. Thank you! I’d also like to acknowledge Lynette Burke for all that she did in her two weeks of quarantine to ready the team for the changes ahead as well as calm my angst through the sea of uncertainty. Finally, I’d like to thank Elise Harley for running with my desire to create a virtual campfire experience that we could all share. She put herself forward in a way that is not always comfortable for her. Elise’s heart always speaks louder than her reservations. We hope to see you all online. Regards The Jabiru Team

16.01.2022 On behalf of the team at The Sensory Gym, we’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone who made this week such a success. Firstly to our Jabiru village for 2021 who helped our campers soar this week. Also a big thank you to Ann and Monika for their behind the scenes efforts and to our wonderful nurses Belle and Mandy. Thank you to the YMCA at Yarramundi for embracing us and our campers. Camp Jabiru would not come together without the vision and many months of preparation from Colleen Hacker and Lynette Burke! Thank you.

07.01.2022 A reflection from Colleen Hacker: Camp Jabiru 2020 is cancelled. Again. There’s simply no other way to say it it sucks. In a year unlike any other we have experienced, the losses and disappointments of 2020 continue to accumulate. Some days are harder than others. Some days, it is difficult to find a bright side. We so wanted to make Camp Jabiru 2020 happen. We so wanted a joy reset. We so wanted to bring community together in a way that is powerful and sustain...ing. That is what Jabiru does, and it is what we are missing in a year that has often kept us isolated and separated. We are having to be so creative in how we connect. It can be hard to find the meaning in this time, and I am on constant quest for meaning. My brain hurts from thinking. My heart hurts from my own disappointment and the continued loss and disappointment experienced by those closest to me. When Jabiru was cancelled (again), the missed opportunity for community and connection was the greatest loss for us all. So my deep breath and bright note for today is that The Sensory Gym is 15 years old today. The community of Camp Jabiru is an outreach of the mission started at The Sensory Gym those 15 years ago. In these crazy times, reflection on how we show up in the world is important. And I am so proud to be one team member of The Sensory Gym and of Camp Jabiru. I am so grateful to all my fellow team members! Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
