24.01.2022 Important information for members at Douglas Shire Council. Unfortunately there is a delay in finalising your Workplace Agreement because The Services Union is waiting on your management to provide us with a draft Agreement which contains all the agreed changes! We are by our members' side and we have requested that Council return to the bargaining table to finalise these issues and any further delay will mean that we start to consider all options available to us.... Read all about it below. If you have any queries please call Services Connect on 3844 5300.

23.01.2022 What an amazing Workplace Delegate Leonie Quick is at Seqwater. She is a Services Star! Leonie is the Maintenance Planner with a focus on Catchment, Recreation and Dam Operations within Seqwater. She has been in this role for a year, however with Seqwater for over 12 years. Her work revolves around creating and maintaining task instructions and maintenance schedules for assets, along with reviewing and updating our asset register. By doing this work, Leonie is part o...f a bigger team that work to ensure maintenance delivery is carried out across Seqwater appropriately, working to prevent asset failure, ensuring safe and timely supply of water to customers. The water entity supplies 3 million people across South East Queensland! WOW! It also supplies irrigation water to about 1200 farmers and growers in SE Qld along with managing recreation facilities at and around dams and lakes. Leonie has recently been training to be a dam operator too! She's trained up to go on a roster for flood/water release events. This means she's not only able to do her day job but Seqwater can rely on her to come in at short notice and help operate Wivenhoe dam gates should the need arise. Leonie said; "Ive been working from home since Mid-March due to Covid. Our business had not yet rolled out MS Teams, but that seemed to happen overnight thanks to Covid! As a Workplace Delegate, Ive been attending WHS meetings to ensure I can respond to members queries on how management are working to keep us safe. Keeping my finger on the pulse is super important to me!" What a legend! Thank you Leonie for being a frontline worker delivering the most important resource to us all - water! Thank you for being a Workplace Delegate for our Union and supporting our members at Seqwater.

23.01.2022 Our comrades at the ETU Queensland & NT have launched a very powerful video combatting racism. Stand with all unionists and send a clear message racism and racists will not divide us. We ask all members and supporters to watch, like and share this video.

22.01.2022 We are very supportive of our members in the Housing Sector. Please see an article published today in The Brisbane Times below. The Services Union has an excellent working relationship with Minister De Brenni . ... We have recently spoken to him and he has explained the Governments position. This is a government which values the input of the community sector on matters of policy. That is in sharp contrast to the LNP which has announced a return to the Newman Government policy of defunding community advocacy if they are returned to government. https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au//unions-sign-letter-for-q

22.01.2022 Member of our Union and good friend Leanne Linard MP staying warm and dry in her Services Union jacket at prepoll in Nudgee this afternoon. If our jackets can cope with this weather they can cope with anything!

21.01.2022 CLIVE PALMER SENDS FRAUDULENT TEXT TO QUEENSLAND VOTERS Clive Palmer, currently facing charges of fraud and corporate misconduct, has already spent $3.7 million in this Queensland election to get Deb Frecklington and the LNP elected. They must be getting desperate, because today he's gone even further.... Through his company Mineralogy, he's sent this fraudulent text message to Queensland voters. Just to be clear, this is a LIE. A complete and total lie. There are ZERO plans for a "Death Tax" in Queensland. It's completely made up to mislead and scare voters. Clive Palmer sacked hundreds of Queenslanders in Townsville. He ripped the heart out of that community. Instead, he's spending millions on lies to get the LNP elected - because he knows they'll let him get away with it all again. ANGRY REACT and SHARE.

21.01.2022 Most of us weren't expecting to suddenly be working from home this year. The quick transition has come with both physical and mental costs. But as organisations look towards a more permanent working from home model, we need to ensure that it doesn't cost workers. Australian unions are fighting for working from home conditions that ensure workers are protected whether they're at home or in the office.... Join us today: www.theservicesunion.com.au

20.01.2022 As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gendered Violence, union women gathered this morning for the annual Queensland Union, Women's Breakfast. Special guest was Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Minister for Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman MP who outlined the plan by Palaszczuk Government to legislate against coercive control as a form of domestic violence. Executive President of The Services Union Jennifer... Thomas also spoke about the work of our Union in the Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) space. Jennifer launched the training and educational work our Union is doing in partnership with Basic Rights Queensland, Queensland Unions, the Queensland Government and DFV Work Aware. The first lot of training is being rolled out for union members and officials.

19.01.2022 We have been out on the campaign trail helping our to ensure a returned Government who believes in secure jobs for Queenslanders and not cuts to frontline services! Our Union remembers only too well what happened when Campbell Newman and Deb Frecklington were last in power. It was an agenda which saw cuts to our frontline services and hard working Queenslanders getting the sack. It was an agenda to CUT, SACK & SELL. ... It took years for our members to recover from what the LNP did last time they were in office! Just this week.... Workplace Delegate Andrew Somerville has been helping Steven Miles - Health & Ambulance Services Minister & MP for Murrumba. Steven has worked tirelessly keeping us safe during the COVID-19 pandemic! Thanks so much Steven! Industrial Officer Drew Cutler has been in his childhood electorate of Morayfield campaigning for Mark Butler MP. Mark is committed to the people of his electorate and ensuring they have a fair go. Mark is a strong voice in Parliament for his constituents. Organiser Glenn Desmond has been out with Aaron Harper MP, Member for Thuringowa. With a background in health, Aaron understands fully what is required when it comes to services for people in his region. Aaron is currently the Chair of the Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee in our State Parliament. Executive President of The Services Union, Jennifer Thomas and Organisers Tom Rivers and Jacqui Pedersen have been out with Bart Mellish MP- Member for Aspley. Bart works hard for the people of Aspley and secured funding for major projects such as the Beams Road Rail Overpass. We are proud to stand with Bart. Communications Officer Belinda Hogan-Collis has been campaigning with her local member Jackie Trad - Member for South Brisbane. Belinda and Jackie campaigned for years together to stop a LNP Brisbane City Council approved 20 storey tower that was going to be built next to the heritage listed Buranda State School. Jackie is the strong voice for the local community in Parliament. Jackie fiercely advocated to have the land returned to the State, stopping the development. The land is now part of the school's footprint and will become a green space for generations of students to come. She has also secured close to $4 million in funding for the expansion of this inner city school. Huge community wins for people in the South Brisbane electorate. SAY NO TO JOBS CUTS has been the mantra from our Members in Rockhampton. They too have been very busy in their campaign to ensure Clive Palmer's lies are called out and the LNP's agenda to slash everything is laid out bare!

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Workplace Delegate Karen Waltham from Gladstone Regional Council who is retiring after 30 years as a librarian. What a Services Star Karen is celebrating with her union colleagues at the Rockhampton Delegates Conference today. She is pictured with Executive President Jennifer Thomas, Organiser Eddie Dey and Industrial Officer Chris McJannett. Thank you Karen for your service to your community for decades and for being an amazing Workplace Delegate for The Services Union.

17.01.2022 We have received advice from the Fair Work Commission that the Qld Rail Travel and Tourism and Other Employees Agreement has been formally endorsed and will come into effect on the 21 September 202. Congratulations to all members and Workplace Delegates on this fantastic achievement!! Click on the link below to read all about it!

17.01.2022 Whilst LNP Leader Deb Frecklington has attempted to distance herself from billionaire Clive Palmer during the election campaign, everyone knows the millions he is spending is to get her elected. Palmer himself brags about the connections he still has within the LNP of which he was a founding member. If Deb doesn’t know Clive, then who is really running the LNP? Make no mistake Clive Palmer will own a Frecklington LNP government whether she knows it or not. #ForQldWorkers #2020ainttheyeartoriskPalmer

17.01.2022 President of The Services Union Lindy Henson and her work colleague Romana Shepherd have signed the Queensland Unions Election Pledge. As regional Queenslanders living in Townsville they know this election is very important to ensure secure jobs for the future. That's why they are calling on all Queensland political leaders to commit to economic recovery that protects workers and creates good, secure jobs and protects our conditions.

16.01.2022 Not good enough Issac Regional Council! Our members at Issac Regional Council have worked hard to keep the Council and the local community functional and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. We also know our members deserve a new EBA which recognises their efforts! ... Unfortunately, Council management seem to have a different idea. Read more in the news story below by clicking on the link: https://www.theservicesunion.com.au//isaac-regional-counc/ If you work for Issac Regional Council and have questions please contact Services Connect on 3844 5300. 15.01.2022 A great day was had by all in Rockhampton today. Our amazing Workplace Delegates from Central Queensland conferenced discussing union issues ranging from industrial work to EBA negotiations. Congratulations EQL Workplace Delegates - who won a Highly Commended Labour Day Award from the QCU for their Data #3 Workplace Campaign. ... Thanks Peter and best wishes.

15.01.2022 The Australian Services Union is proud to announce Emeline Gaske will be its new Assistant National Secretary. Emeline is a long-term ASU member and comes to the role with deep experience at the union, leading the national communications and campaigns team, and playing a key leadership role on the strategy and negotiations with Virgin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Emeline said: I intend to work hard every day to make our members working lives better. We must work with our ...members to put them in the best possible position as we rebuild our economy in the wake of the COVID19 pandemic." 13.01.2022 Members in Mackay attended a Red Rose Rally today to mark the recent death of Lisa Hund in Bundaberg. The Services Union is committed to campaigning for Domestic and Family Violence Leave through its We Wont Wait Campaign.

13.01.2022 Vale Simmo The Services Union mourns the passing of our dear friend and comrade Peter Simmo Simpson. Simmo was a long time official of the Electrical Trades Union and The Services Union was privileged to have been able to work with him on many campaigns over the years. He will be long remembered and honoured by us for his passionate and unwavering commitment to the Not for Sale Campaign which he led just a short six or seven years ago. He was a fighter for what he believed ...in. Even while he was fighting his own battle, he began campaigning for fair cancer funding and the right for people to die with dignity. Just in the last few months, he made an emotional video in support of his heartfelt campaign for Voluntary Assisted Dying. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Penny, his family and extended ETU family and friends. Neil Henderson - Secretary and Jennifer Thomas - Executive President

11.01.2022 News from Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP Queenslanders now able to access Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment Queenslanders who are self isolating or in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic can now access support with a $1500 Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment.... Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment arrangements have been extended to Queensland after an agreement with the Commonwealth. The payments are also available to Queenslanders who cannot earn an income because they are caring for someone who has COVID-19. Many Queenslanders are in a situation where they have had to self-isolate or quarantine and have used up their leave entitlements leaving them with no income, the Premier said. They may be eligible for the payment and others may also be eligible if they’re the parent or guardian of a child aged 16 or under who has been instructed to isolate as they are a close contact. Queenslanders will not be eligible for the payment if they are receiving income, earnings or salary maintenance from work, receiving JobKeeper Payment or other forms of Australian or Queensland Government income support. People can claim the payment again if their self-isolation or quarantine period is extended longer than 14 days. To claim the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment call 180 22 66 or access information at www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/disaster.

11.01.2022 We have all been shocked by the Jetstar decision to outsource the work of Jetstar services staff working on the ramp in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Adelaide and Avalon. Around 350 staff will lose their jobs as a result of this decision which came without warning. Unfortunately it seems Jetstar put a Request for Interest (RFI) to a range of ground handlers in June 2020 without telling staff and then they put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) and have now announced the preferred bidders for each airports work which they say they want to finalise by December 2020. 09.01.2022 Check out our amazing member Gwen who works for Multicultural Australia in Townsville. Gwen has signed the Queensland Unions Election Pledge online. 07.01.2022 The ASU, together with the TWU and FAAA took Qantas to court as they are incorrectly applying JobKeeper and delaying the payment of shift penalties and overtime. That didnt fly with us or our members. The Federal Court has just handed down their decision and we won! We are now calling for Qantas to accept the courts decision and back-pay all underpaid employees. There is never any excuse for wage theft.

07.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. 07.01.2022 The QCU held a very successful launch of its Central Queensland social media today, around its message Put The LNP Last. 07.01.2022 With only one week until the Queensland Election our members at North Queensland Bulk Ports are calling on all Queensland political leaders to commit to economic recovery that protects workers and creates good, secure jobs (especially in regional areas such as Mackay) and protects our conditions. They have signed the Queensland Unions Workplace Pledge.... Our members are calling on all Queensland political leaders to do the right thing when it comes to secure jobs and fair working conditions.

07.01.2022 Australia's super system is the difference between poverty and a decent retirement for most Australians. Yet women still retire with up to 47% less super than men. It is not good enough. It's why we've been lobbying MPs from all sides of politics, with ASU, ANMF and SDA members calling for politicians to deliver our 12% super increase and make super paid on every dollar earned. Today we met with Anne Webster - Federal Member for Mallee who agreed that super needs to work for... women so that women do not retire in poverty. Great work by our members for sharing their stories, and thanks to Anne for your support!

06.01.2022 Great News for members in the Rail Industry. The Queensland Rail Network EBA has been endorsed and will come into effect on 21 September 2020. 05.01.2022 Members of The Services Union at Isaac Regional Council work hard each and every day to deliver frontline services to your community. That’s why our Union is by your side to negotiate a new Certified Agreement (CA) that properly rewards you for your everyday efforts. Unfortunately, Council doesn’t seem to value the work you do in the same way that neighbouring councils value their staff and your colleagues. The following is a summary of where we ended up after the most recent... CA negotiations on Wednesday 14 October. Council’s current pay proposal would see you underpaid compared to neighbouring Councils, as the table below demonstrates. Our Union took management to task over this disparity, especially in the context of Council’s extravagance when it comes to contractor salaries. Read more on the latest update to bargaining at Isaac Regional Council via the link below.

05.01.2022 Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has confirmed what The Services Union has always suspected; the Liberal National Party (LNP) has an agenda to slash funding and axe frontline essential services if they win the Queensland Election next month. The announcement by Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington to defund the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO), if her party wins office, is history repeating itself. We will always stand by our members working for Community Legal Centres w...ho deliver valuable services and representation! We remember what happened last time the LNP were in government - it was not nice!

05.01.2022 Last Chance! Dont forget to have your say in your union. The ASU member survey 2020 closes NEXT WEEK!... Fill in the survey now: http://bit.ly/asusurvey20

04.01.2022 At the most recent Brisbane City Council EBA10 discussions two days ago, The Services Union raised the issue of the unfairness of not all staff being able to access the two extra leave days the Lord Mayor announced for 7 and 8 January due to not being rostered to work on those days. It seems that not only did Brisbane City Councils management representatives convey our argument to the Lord Mayor, but also that the Lord Mayor listened to and accepted our argument. Hopefully b...y now you will have seen the CEOs Update on concessional leave days during the Christmas closedown email, which states that: Following discussion with the Lord Mayor, I am pleased to announce these two additional days will be made available to employees who are not rostered to work on these dates. The email goes on to say that the days will be available to permanent and temporary employees who are full-time and part-time covered by EBA9, Specialist and Senior Professional (SSP) employees and Professional Services (PSE) employees. Through the current round of online member meetings, members at BCC continue to tell us that fairness is important, which is why we will always listen and act on matters such as these. If you havent yet participated in an online discussion with Union Secretary Neil Henderson about our next EBA10 steps, the good news is that there are two more meetings. If you work with someone who is not yet a member, remind them of the importance of having your workplace ally to listen and then speak up for you. Joining is quick and easy at www.theservicesunion.com.au

03.01.2022 Members of The Services Union at Brisbane City Council have made it clear that you want a pay rise and preferably want it now. As your ally in the workplace, our Union has been happy to facilitate several Zoom meetings over the last week to enable you to express that view. Across all Zoom meetings, members expressed willingness to contemplate a deferral of the first wage increase but would not agree to a wage freeze of any duration, let alone two years.... 03.01.2022 We know that fairness is an important issue to members of The Services Union at Brisbane City Council. Thats why we raised concerns at todays EBA10 discussions about some employees missing out on the additional two days off at Christmas announced by the CEO and Lord Mayor. While our Union welcomed the gesture when it was announced, we have since learned that there may be employees who will miss out on what was described as a thankyou. It just doesnt seem fair. We also re...visited discussions on the wage increase. Hardly anyone seems to think that a two-year pay freeze is fair either. Read the latest update following negotiations today via the link below. BCC members, make sure you register and attend the upcoming member meetings also.
