10.01.2022 Can't complain about the neighbour! # TheSetsFairhaven #airbnbstay #polehouseneighbour You can get plenty of pictures of this unique and most photographed house in Australia from our place. Built in the 1970's and completely renovated in 2012 - the 8m by 8m famous Pole House is a 1BR studio. Apparently when applying for his planning permit in 1975, the original owner presented his idea to the Council engineer who after 10 minutes said "Yup, why not". A far cry from the c...omplicated planning process of today!. It was one of 2 houses to survive the Ash Wednesday 1983 fires. While it was made of wood, the concrete structure suspended 40m above the Great Ocean Road contributed to its survival. (The Fairhaven Beach Retreat is about 3 m lower than the Pole House without the suspension). The rebuild took some time to go through as the original owner wanted it heritage listed after he sold it!!
