24.01.2022 Vitamin D is actually a hormone, not a vitamin. While vitamins work as cofactors to functions and pathways in the body, Vitamin D works more as a regulator. Deficiency in Vitamin D has been associated with increased risk of cancer, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, osteoporosis and thyroid disease. So pretty much everything! Here’s an extract from an analysis on Vitamin D:... Vitamin D from ultraviolet-B (UVB) irradiance, food, and supplements is receiving increased attention lately for its role in maintaining optimal health. Although the calcemic effects of vitamin D have been known for about a century, the non-calcemic effects have been studied intently only during the past two-three decades. The strongest links to the beneficial roles of UVB and vitamin D to date are for bone and muscle conditions and diseases. There is also a preponderance of evidence from a variety of studies that vitamin D reduces the risk of colon cancer, with 1000 IU/day of vitamin D or serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels >33 ng/mL (82 nmol/L) associated with a 50% lower incidence of colorectal cancer. There is also reasonable evidence that vitamin D reduces the risk of breast, lung, ovarian, and prostate cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. There is weaker, primarily ecologic, evidence for the role of vitamin D in reducing the risk of an additional dozen types of cancer. There is reasonably strong ecologic and case-control evidence that vitamin D reduces the risk of autoimmune diseases including such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes mellitus, and weaker evidence for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and stroke. This is why we need it and we’re not getting enough! Why? Here are the top reasons: Lack of sun exposure Overuse of sunscreen You’re outdoors but you’re covering up too much You’re deficient in magnesium, which is needed for conversion of vitamin D in the skin You lack the enzymes to convert Vitamin D Fortunately, this deficiency is usually easily corrected by taking a high quality supplement and/or getting adequate sunshine.

17.01.2022 There’s no doubt about it, we live in a toxic world. Man made chemicals are now a part of our daily lives. Most of the problematic man-made chemicals that pollute our bodies and the environment are Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs). As the name suggests, these chemicals disrupt our endocrine system, often by damaging or up regulating our hormone receptors. More information on this is in episode 8 of The Shift Season Two. 13.01.2022 Your period is a sign of health! Weird I know, but having a healthy cycle shows you that your hormones are alright. It can be a monthly indicator of health. So what should it look like? It should be regular - the same length each month give or take a day or two. The length should be somewhere between 26 and 32 days. The blood should be bright red and vibrant, and flowing well (not stopping and starting).... PMS is not a normal thing, besides feeling a little off or slightly tired you shouldn't be moody, fatigued, bloated or have sore boobs. No amount of pain is normal, so if you're in pain it's because there's a problem. Listen to Episode 3, Season Two of The Shift Podcast to learn about your periods, why they are so important for health, and how you can harness the power of your menstrual cycle to use to your advantage! @alisa.vitti . . . #shift #theshift #naturopathy #real #natural #podcast #poddy #guthealth #womenshealth #listen #learn See more

11.01.2022 The Shift with Katherine Maslen : The Patient Series Jane’s Story

11.01.2022 We are always doing, doing, dong, but when are you just being? Space to just be is just as important as vitamin C, you can eat the most wonderful diet in the world but if you’re so full that you don’t have space to just be, you can’t be fully healthy. You could sit under a tree for 5 minutes, have a cup of tea, close your eyes and focus on your breath, sit and admire a view, or meditate. Being means not doing, so not checking Instagram, not reading, not listening to a podcas...t.
