16.01.2022 A day in the life of a Seamstress ... variety inspires me & today is no different Completing Covid inspired alterations to 2 very grand Bridal dresses. Adjustments to a Made2Measure frock & beginning this very special commission. These dolls are 45-50 years old. They have been at the Doll Hospital in Brisbane which has been repairing dolls & teddies since 1935. I’ve also been given free range to create. 14.01.2022 This hand embroidery linen tablecloth has been in my life since I was a young girl. It used to have 8 matching serviettes. Semco embroidery kits were the fashionable craft in my Mums day. 14.01.2022 Westerly winds...Smokey skies...Needles!These days I need to use a needle threader and my vintage thimble has too many holes in it to be of use. Can I get those holes fixed? I’ll ask our resident silversmith what he suggests. A thimble is a necessary and often undervalued piece of equipment in a sewing kit!

13.01.2022 I’ve started to experiment & artistically process the textile waste in my studio. Hand sewing only!!! Even though this #tinyquilt #talismanquilt is only 12 X 15cm it took longer than I anticipated. For a nano second I was tempted to use my machine. Deep breathe, slow down ... and I thought about the 3 clients these scraps arose from. In that moment, my connection to the fabric in my hands changed. 08.01.2022 It’s finished it’s not perfect, especially the fit of my 2 part sleeve! However it has reminded me of how important connection to the clothes we wear & make are, how creative flow is something to behold and saviour ... and now I patiently await till the borders are open so I can wear my ‘Valerie’ jacket when I visit my Mum. My Mum has dementia so I am hoping it triggers some memories for her.
