25.01.2022 + WHO WE BECOME + It's baffling. These times, they are confusing. We are not alone in thinking this way. The level of uncertainty unites us, and unity is going to be our strength. Every day we witness solidarity, kindness and generosity that's just as unprecedented. At The Silk Project, we stand by our mission; to support and celebrate the efforts of people and organisations that will need even more assistance when resources, not only financial, are depleting. When startin...g a project, we choose a charity that has huge positive impact. Then, it's important to find an artist who will portray and enhance the mission of the charity. We then produce the silk with our expert silk producers in China. We believe that everything, and everyone, has a purpose, so we joined efforts with people and organisations who would benefit most from the collaboration. 19.01.2022 + CHANGE + There is only one constant in life, that change is imminent. We have been quietly regrouping, listening, watching and being mindful of the global situation with the COVID19. Our project with charity, Free a Girl organisation continues to need our support. We must support them to continue the freeing of innocent young girls in underdeveloped countries to be freed from their sexual slavery. ... 18.01.2022 + WE LOVE MICHELLE MOUTARDIER + This week we highlight our dear friend Michelle. Her creative talents started when she was a young girl, taking photos wherever she went. Her favourite camera is her medium format Pentax. She has photographed throughout Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. Her series of photos highlight local cultures with emotive black and whites, or vibrant colours. She naturally stepped into portraiture and fashion photography seamlessly. ... 14.01.2022 + WOMAN WE LOVE + IWD + WHO | Alexandra Poenaru Philp WHAT | Artist, Fashion designer, Photographer, Model, Ingenue, Chameleon, Humanitarian, Interior designer (I think I've forgotten some too) WHERE | Paris or Cannes, FRANCE WHY | Alexandra loves stories, and loves telling stories through her artistry. ... This day, filmed July 2019, was the day I met Alexandra. I believe that angels above us were celebrating our meeting. She is definitely one of those people that stand out. Not just because of her striking beauty, but also her heart, her enthusiasm, her generosity and her unlimited talent. We talked for hours last summer, and met up in a bunch of her favourite Parisian haunts. Mostly, we talked, and laughed, and agreed that we will forever be friends. Since meeting her, she has agreed to add her talents to our @thesilkproject mission by acting as our Creative Director. I'm often a bit of a renegade, and posting up images on our social platforms that Alexandra asks me to edit; and I absolutely love her guidance. And fight for justice for the survivors by ending impunity.... Her mission started in 2008, when she and her co-founders Arjan Erkel, Roelof van Laar and Yolanthe Sneijder Cabau, created Free a Girl. Free a Girl supports professional organizations that rescue girls from prostitution in various countries. The organizations investigate where minor girls are being held, and then raid the premises with the police. They literally break down the doors. As the problem takes different forms in different countries, every country requires a separate approach. Minor girls in India are often imprisoned in brothels, for example, whereas girls in Nepal tend to be held in dance bars.
