25.01.2022 For us, supporting small creators, growers and artisans is really important. They dont cut corners because profit is not the most important thing for them, they arent reporting to faceless shareholders or banks and they are truly proud of what they do. They create/grow with passion, and often have taken the risk after years of experimenting & sharing. By supporting local creators, it makes a huge difference in our local economy. Today we have the pleasure of having Wild Folk who are sampling the most incredible Turmeric Latte mix, made with native Tasmanian Pepperberry and it comes in a really nice glass jar (that you can re-use to fill up with herbs/teas/spices). Come past for a taste! For those of you who have always thought about creating something, reach out to us - we will gladly give you a few pointers on how to get started.
25.01.2022 We hope with all our hearts that we have helped serve our neighbourhood well, and we couldnt be more proud of what we have built here with you over the last year. Its been really hard (broken leg/wheelchair in the first 3 months wasnt handy!), but we have loved it and learnt so much, its been a great journey. What excites us the most is connecting our community with incredible local organic/biodynamic farmers and people who create foods & products with the planet in mind.... Over the last year weve tried to help you take away the stresses of everyday life and allow you to relax and re-centre. Whether its been by learning to compost at our composting workshop, tasting a sample of something youve never tried before by one of our great local supplier partners, mastering how to make your own raw kombucha/kraut, realising the complex process of coffee beans, being provoked by a documentary night, getting goosebumps because of a talented musician, taking in information about mental health/gut health/herbal tonics/medicinal mushrooms in our community cellar, doing yoga & a juice fast, picking up tips on zerowaste living by the team from Zerowaste Adelaide, or having a real conversation with one of our regular valued members - we really hope you have gained or shared a little bit of knowledge. This Saturday will have live music, local organic/biodynamic farmers & local creators on the day with free samples of different foods & drinks. Youll be able to try some of the following on the day from amazing local creators: kimchi, turmeric lattes, tasty cold brew coffee served hot, see how soap berries work, and chat to some of our amazing farmers who we work really closely with. ONE Year Birthday Party Saturday 7th July 2018 The Simple Market 44 Henley Beach Road, Mile End 10:30am - 2:30pm Thanks so much once again for your incredible support as as neighbours, members, regulars or even if youve just visited us once, we really have appreciated it and look forward to continuing to grow with you as your organic & natural community grocer.
23.01.2022 Hello! Weve got some great news. We finally have a great supply of certified organic toilet paper. This toilet paper is locally sourced from the Adelaide Hills, vegan friendly, gluten free and fully home compostable with minimal processing.... Did you know that the anus can absorb a large amount of nutrients? This is both good & bad. This toilet paper is rich in Vitamin A which is known to improve vision, skin, and bone health. It is also completely plastic free. Most toilet paper is bleached using chlorine to make the paper pulp extra white, some even contain undisclosed fragrances (synthetic musks & phthalates) and then to make it extra smooth they often use paraffin wax (petroleum based), so your anus could be absorbing toxic ingredients with every wipe. We have two different smooth sizes, both large & small depending on your surface area and come in packs of 4. These are now live on the online store for kerb-side pickup. This site will be available soon to non-members for ordering. Since its a natural product it does not attract GST. Once vine leaves are finished from a supply point of view, we will have nettles available which do not really sting once soaked in water. We are interested in your feedback - we think folding these work better than scrunching. We also have who gives a crap rolls & Green Cane toilet paper 4 packs available (bamboo & sugarcane based). Thank you and happy wiping.
23.01.2022 Christmas is a busy time of the year, so much planning and preparation that sometimes we drop the ball when it comes to Mother Earth and self-care! This year, we are making it our goal to remain as zero waste during the festive season as we can! Top 10 tips for a zero waste Christmas: 1. Use what you have! Before rushing out to the shops for Christmas decorations, check out last years decorations, or maybe the years before that! Reuse any dcor or jars. ... 2. Use what the earth gave us! Try making Christmas and house decorations using pine cones, leaves and flowers! 3. Give an experience instead of a present. Christmas is the time to make memories! Gift your loved ones with a spa day, concert or musical tickets, a tour or a fancy night out! 4. DIY! Gifts and deco Give your gifts a personal touch by making your own Christmas wrapping and gifts. Find an old t-shirt or an off-cut of fabric to wrap your gifts in, perhaps spice it up with tie dye or paint. Decorate your table with bonbons, made with fabric and a toilet roll, then filled with nuts and goodies. Give your loved ones homemade beauty products such as a bath bomb, exfoliator or body butter. You could even make bliss balls, chilli oil, macram or jam. 5. Buy second hand. Op-shops, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace are all great options to finding gifts second hand without using new resources. Make a game with your family, who can buy the best op-shop gift within a budget. Youll be amazed with what you can find! 6. Shop smart. Plan your Christmas menu in advance, think about how many people are attending and how much they will eat, dont over buy. Over buying of food at Christmas is biggest contributor to food waste in Australia. 7. Put out your best dishes. Dont skimp quality for Christmas, put out your best crockery and avoid using plastic plates. 8. Be smart with cards. Send personalised e-cards or eco-friendly cards to loved ones. Choose 100% recycled paper cards and support local artists. A card with a heartfelt message can mean more than any gift. 9. The gift that keeps on giving. Perhaps gift your family and friends with a membership, course or workshop they would enjoy! Not only are they indulging in their passion, but they will be learning a new skill! 10. Dont be afraid to be creative and to experiment! Christmas time is about connecting with loved ones and showing either other how much they mean to you. Dont be afraid to personalise their gifts and stand out from the crowd! #zerowastechristmas #ourearthneedsus #organicadelaide #mileend

23.01.2022 To reduce plastic we do not carry products such as packaged mushroom, lettuce etc. that can be ordered loose, you can use one of our compostable bags or bring in a jar for storage. We love seeing all of the unique jars from our guests. These babies have been a favourite snack of ours all summer long
22.01.2022 Hello everyone, Here is an interesting link to a Choice article about strawberries. We have Certified Organic Adelaide Hills Strawberry punnets in store, for 2 for $8. https://www.choice.com.au//strawberries-test-reveals-healt
19.01.2022 Hello everyone, We just wanted to let you know that we've got Bulk Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap on special for just $2/100g, which is really good value! We've got three types, Peppermint, Lavender and Unscented.... If you have never used Dr. Bronner's Castile soap before, it is just amazing. We've been using it as a body wash for years - for a unique shower experience, lather up a few drops of your favourite Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap with some water and enjoy the wonderfully velvety foam. You can also use it for dishes, floor cleaning, shaving, laundry, windows, toilets and much more. It doesn't contain any foaming agents, synthetic preservatives or detergents. Simply bring in a clean container, we just weigh it first and then you can fill up with as little or as much as you need. We also have some clean empty bottles here you can also use if you don't have a bottle. We generally don't carry items with palm oil as it is a very brutal industry but Dr. Bronner's is leading the change as it buys exclusively from 500 small organic family farms, which were developed without the widespread clear-cutting of rainforests. We hope you enjoy your first experience.
18.01.2022 Dear members, neighbours and loyal guests, We want to begin with a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. Your unwavering support of The Simple Market, our team, local organic growers & local producers as well as all things simple living has been nothing less than inspiring over the last almost 3 years. We really appreciate your understanding and patience during this weird time and we look forward to serving you all again in store this Thursday from 10am. Youll no...tice weve changed some things around, we hope you like it! It has been an honour to be of service to so many of you through the online ordering for kerbside pickups. Although online served a purpose, it was strange at the same time and we much prefer your real in-store smiles, conversations & connections. Over this time we have never seen so many people from all walks of life embrace simple living. We had guests tell us all the incredible dishes that they attempted to cook for the first time, the copious amounts of fermenting, pickling, dehydrating and wild foraging. New veggie gardeners sprouted throughout the neighbourhood. So many dads rode their bikes with their kids and happy dogs were walked during the new working from home arrangements. People realised all the things they didnt really need and what mattered - like hugs, real conversations, fresh food, friends & family. People took charge of their families health like never before. We look forward to serving you in store once again this Thursday.
16.01.2022 Collectively as a society we are realising more and more our impact on the planet, the animals, and our community. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a motto that we try our best to follow & focus on. Refusing - is great as by doing so, you arent contributing to rubbish that will most likely exist for a really long time in landfill, . A really simple first step is refusing to buy bottled water & takeaway coffees - after a few months you wont even consider it anymore. Reduc...e - we try to buy less "stuff", and when it comes to food we like shopping in a minimal packaging environment because we can take as little or as much as we need - especially when it comes to new things we want to try. Reuse - we love op-shopping for clothes, and we spend heaps of time at Hindmarsh Disposals for pre-loved furniture because the craftsmanship & quality is often incredible... we try to reuse our jars by simply bringing clean ones in, weighing them, and filling them up. Recycle - whilst this often is the first step on the zero waste journey, once you get into the habit of recycling, youll likely end up realising it is much easier to actually refuse/reduce/reuse. We have over 200 unpacked everyday grocery lines, for example: certified organic quinoa, great quality local olive oil, vinegars, nuts, seeds, grains, flours, dishwashing liquids, laundry powders, epsom salts, herbs, spices, teas, coffee, protein powders, dukkah - on average we add two new varieties ever week.
15.01.2022 Thanks so much to Erin Rhoads & Lindsay Miles for coming to visit our store in Adelaide and hold an informative zero waste Q&A session, facilitated by Niki Wallace. We all learnt something new, from clothing to schools, and it even opened our eyes up more to the misconceptions of recycling, as well as giving us some inspiration to simple changes we can make. Coming up we have: An Introduction to Biodynamic Growing run by experienced biodynamic interstate educators, as well as... a Raw Chocolate Making Demonstration before Easter. Ask us in store for more information or to book into an event. #5031 #zerowasteadelaide #organicadelaide #biodynamicadelaide Treading My Own Path The Rogue Ginger
15.01.2022 We stand proud as First Nations people. We, the tribal warriors of the original Wangan and Jagalingou people of west-central Queensland have planted our flag an...d performed ceremonial dance for our ancient ancestors. We stand to protect our land from Adani’s destruction. Four days ago we lit the spirit fire. Through this fire we call on our ancestors to drive Adani from our lands. Adani’s truck and vehicle movement has stopped. The fire burns to mark out cultural sovereignty and our call to national and international allies to aid our fight. We call on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to stand with us and to evict Adani from our homelands. Our opposition to Adani has spanned 10 years. We have watched Adani divide our people through lateral violence and corrupt our families with bribes and promises of money. It’s time for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to stand with us. The Premier must turn from the false Adani promises; turn from the destruction of our waters; turn from those willing to decimate First Nations culture. It is time for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to step forward, towards justice for First Nations people and to evict Adani from our homelands. The Wangan and Jagalingou people strive for economic justice. Our decision to close Adani’s road has not come lightly. We recognise Covid-19 is causing economic distress for Queensland families. But, our communities and families have been struggling since European settlement. Adani’s mine project brings only suffering to our people. Our action at the Adani Carmichael Project seeks justice. We stand for equality. We are the voice of our people and we demand Adani pack up and leave our land. Now is the time for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to stand for First Nations people. To stand with the Wangan and Jagalinou people as we strive for protection of our homeland and for justice for our people. #StandingOurGround #EvictAdani

14.01.2022 Why unpackaged? Less rubbish - Oceans, waterways and land are full of packaging these days choking wildlife and contaminating land. Although soft plastics can be recycled through appropriate methods, most currently ends up in landfill or the environment. By buying unpackaged, you can bring in your own clean container or use our paper bags & jars in store which helps reduce the amount of waste. Better Value - we buy in bulk so you can get a range of certified organic whole fo...ods at a lower cost. Packaging is often costly when taking into account middlemen repackaging bulk into small bags, marketers/branding/transport etc. We want to help make organic food as accessible as possible. Also, if you always use a particular ingredient, buy over 1kg and save even more. Dabble - only buy as little or as much as you need, so you can dabble in different ingredients, perhaps you want to try sumac as a new spice, hemp as a new seed, buckwheat flour to try a baking recipe, nutritional yeast flakes on your veggies, or damiana as a new tea. This helps reduce food waste as you dont have a mostly filled packet sitting in your pantry of something you wanted to try but didnt like. Whole foods - by shopping bulk, you automatically move toward eating more plant-based whole foods. This means, less strange additives & preservatives, more nutritional value. Glass jars in the pantry with beautiful colourful lentils, seeds, nuts, flours & grains also look much more appealing than open plastic packets - helping you eat more whole foods and easily see when you are running low. Bulk Bins - Our bulk bins are designed to be filled from the top or the back, so stock is always rotated. The scoop bins have a self-closing lid with a mechanism, so they dont stay open all the time. The overhead bins are also closed, which prevents dust, hands and minimises cross-contamination. They are BPA free and what we find handy, which hasnt happened yet, is that parts can easily be replaced on the containers so we dont wastefully need to replace an entire container. These are just some of the reasons why we like unpackaged. Bulk is beautiful. Unpackaged makes cents. #zerowasteadelaide #organicadelaide

11.01.2022 Have you tried Okra? Our Certified Organic Okra is grown with love in the Riverland. Okra originates from Nigeria and is member of the Malvacae or Mallow family. Whats unique about Okra is its thickening affect due to the rich mucilage content that actually increases in viscosity when heated. This is where poor Okra is sometimes misunderstood if not treated properly, capatalising on this fact is great for recipes such as stews and southern gumbos, another approach is to s...hallow fry coated in cornmeal with herbs and spices. A big favourite in Southern American cooking, why not get your Creole on! Ask us in store for some of our favourite recipes and details on how to prepare. Orka has loads of nutritional benefits, its high in soluble and insoluble fibre which has been linked to improving digestive function, lowering cholesterol levels and weight management. Okra is also a massive source of vitamin C, 100g will give you 35 percent of the daily recommended intake, helping prevent free radical damage and boost immune function. Also a great source of B vitamins particularly vitamin B6, as well as vitamin A, vitamin K and Iron.
11.01.2022 We were hoping that we'd be able to serve you this week, but unfortunately the whole process due to the flooding seems to be more involved than we initially thought. We were overwhelmed with the support from hundreds of people offering help to clean up the huge mess - you helped us not give up. Fortunately we have some insurance for our lost offices, inventory and event space but unfortunately we've had to allow the complex due process. The team is finishing ripping out the ...downstair walls, now drying and will be rebuilding next week (hopefully). We've been able to donate our organic fresh produce to the Men's Crisis Centre which will nourish some of those in urgent need. We are aiming to be able to serve you next Wednesday 21st at 10am. We thank you so much for your support, patience and loyalty. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again. We miss you. Although the challenges our world faces are global, we believe changes can start local.

07.01.2022 Purple Power We are seeing Purple this month with Organic Purple Carrots, Organic Beetroot, Organic Purple Flame Grapes, Organic Plums and Organic Purple Capsicum. What is so good about Fruits and Vegetables that are Purple? All brightly coloured vegetables and fruit contain antioxidants, which are compounds that help protect our body but naturally purple coloured foods have an antioxidant call anthocyanin. Studies have found these anthocyanins to be protective against cardi...ovascular disease and have also been shown to be helpful in improving memory and cognitive function, and are thought to work by reducing neuroinflammation, improving blood flow to the brain and activating synaptic signalling. Eat the rainbow and incorporate purple foods in your diet every day! See more
07.01.2022 Hello everyone, A few weeks ago we had two booked out beginners organic sourdough bread making classes in our Simple Living event space. For those of you who couldn't make it, we've put the instructions on our website so you can have a go at home - link below. We will be running another class in the future which will be slightly more advanced for those who have tried making sourdough bread before and want to now take it to the next level, keep an eye out for more details on t...his. A special thanks to our member Jens for sharing his knowledge with The Simple Market community. We hope you enjoy baking bread and next time you are in a large supermarket, have a read of the back of some breads to see what they put in it, even in 'sourdough' breads - it's pretty weird.. We think bread should be kept simple. If you don't have the time to make bread, or now know the labour of love involved and appreciate world class bread that use organic ingredients, we have freshly baked Mylor Bakery sourdough breads every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. We also have organic sourdough croissants (vf) and organic sourdough low gluten breads (simple gf ingredients) available on Saturdays. Enjoy simple living. https://www.thesimplemarket.com.au//bs5e0wbvrqh3m4jr0w2gt4 #sourdough
07.01.2022 Hello everyone, We will be opening an hour earlier tomorrow to help you stress less, and we will be open on Sunday at 11am - 3pm for any last minute needs. We hope you have a relaxed, simple Christmas, and remember whats important. We personally will be going on a little camping road trip along the Great Ocean Road during the break. Thanks so much for your support and we hope you have a relaxing break and a healthy new year.
06.01.2022 Dear community, Today our store was devastated by a SA Water main burst on Henley Beach Road. Our cellar where we hold all of our bulk organic nuts, seeds, grains, flours etc. as well as grocery items, and our room where we bring our community together to hold our classes, event and workshops was flooded, about 1.2m high. We arent sure exactly what the next steps are, but just wanted to say thank you to the SES for their prompt response. For big corporations, these kind of things can be absorbed, for small business, its not so easy. Luckily we have such an amazing team and community who raillied around us, for today we are closed but we will keep you all updated.
06.01.2022 The other week we had a birthday party to celebrate the two year birthday of The Simple Market! It was pretty hectic and we wanted to thank our tremendous local supplier partners who proudly sampled their foods & drinks with our guests. Thank you to the very talented Alycia Budd who played some relaxing tunes. ... Thank you to our wonderful team who did a fantastic job serving & sampling, always such a pleasure to work with. Thank you to our Simple Market Members for always being so great & supportive - its been an absolute pleasure serving you over the last two years. Weve grown a lot together - weve watched your kids grow up organically, weve added new lines that youve asked for, weve expanded most of the different categories that you wanted to see more of and we are planning many more workshops & classes that you wanted to learn more of. There is still so much to do in helping the neighbourhood have access to local & affordable unpackaged organic whole foods and we look forward to continuing to grow on this journey with you, thank you for your support.
04.01.2022 We had the privilege of going to see some of our great certified organic farmer partners in the Riverland over the last few days. It was an unbelievable experience. Jamie and Angela have been growing avocados for the last 14 years, and some trees on the property are nearly 40 years old. Did you know the avocado trees can grow up to 18m tall? These farmers grow 13 different varieties of avocados so for 10 months of the year we can have SA grown avocados in store and its such ...a wonderful taste experience to try the different varieties. Weve noticed that most of our guests love the Hass variety, but we personally think the Reed or Bacon avocados are the tastiest. Jamie agreed that the least popular varieties are the green skins, they dont go deep purple - so they are harder to tell when ripe but are so creamy! The avocado blossoms just smelt divine! When we asked what they did for weed control, they said nothing. They want to provide a great habitat for bees and blowflies, which in turn help pollinate the blossoms. They never planted clovers but they naturally appeared everywhere overtime which also help put nitrogen back in the soil via their roots - no need for synthetic fertilisers. Their farm peacefully overlooks the Murray. These guys love spending their free time canoeing on the river with their kids. These are real families who passionately grow your food with your health/the environment in mind. If you want to see more, let us know with a like/comment: Music thanks to www.bensound.com

04.01.2022 For us, supporting small creators, growers and artisans is really important. They don't cut corners because profit is not the most important thing for them, they aren't reporting to faceless shareholders or banks and they are truly proud of what they do.
03.01.2022 Healthy cleaning! Our priority is the health of you, your family and the planet. Our aim is to be able to give you a really high quality product, that works, with ingredients you can trust, at an affordable price, that dont negatively impact the earths ecosystems. Ingredients you can trust: We support Australian companies who deliver high performance cleaning products without nasty chemicals. A plethora of ingredients in common household cleaning products have been linked ...to asthma, cancer, reproductive disorders, neurotoxicity and hormone disruption*. Like with pesticides, manufacturers argue that in small amounts these toxic ingredients arent likely to be a problem, but when we are exposed to them often, with multiple products, or on children, they simply havent been studied. Reduce packaging: At The Simple Market we also work to get rid of packaging that costs more, and costs the planet by having refillable bulk cleaning products. Youre welcome to bring your own clean container that we just weigh, and then you can fill up with what you need. We have amber glass spray and pump bottles available that you can reuse, for laundry liquid, surface cleaner, toilet gel, bathroom cleaner, liquid soap and dish washing liquid or paper bags to scoop in laundry powders, dish washing powders, bicarbonate soda, soap berries, Epsom salts etc. DIY Cleaning Products & Healthy Habits: Bathroom mould remover - 2 cups of water and 1/4 teaspoon each of tea-tree and lavender oil. 01.01.2022 Today we had the privilege of providing the dedicated crew of the Greenpeace International Rainbow Warrior with fresh South Australian organic produce for their journey. They are fighting the fight against big oil in our very own waters. There is no need to drill for oil in such pristine waters just profit for overseas shareholders. It doesnt make any sense. Greenpeace Australia Pacific keep up the fight, and fight for all that which cannot speak. #makingoilhistory
