22.01.2022 Today we are so lucky to chat with the lovely Rachel Lloyd from Mamas Journeys. Rachel established @mamas.journeys 18 months after having her daughter. She realised there was little awareness around a safe return to exercise for postnatal women. Unfortunately for Rachel she found out she had a bladder prolapse, which potentially was exercise induced. This sparked a passion inside Rachel to became a postnatal specialist and wellness practitioner. You don’t know what you d...on’t know and Rach soon learnt the signs and symptoms to look out for, where some are common, yet not normal. Incontinence is accepted as something that can happen to women after having children, however great results can be achieved with specific pelvic floor exercises. A feeling of heaviness or bulging in the vagina area is also something to be aware of as it can indicate a vaginal prolapse. Did you know? 50% of women who have had a vaginal delivery have an undiagnosed prolapse. Rachel says, every session starts with pelvic floor exercises, core stability and glute activations. 13.01.2022 IRON INFUSION. Our lovely patient has low iron levels with symptoms of tiredness, dizziness and nausea. Her oral iron supplements were poorly absorbed and gave her constipation & gut problems. After blood tests and a consultation Dr Chris decided an intravenous iron infusion would be the best treatment to restore her iron levels faster, make her feel better quicker & avoid the awful gut symptoms. Do you want to know more? Why does my body need iron? The body needs ...iron to make haemoglobin (Hb), found in red blood cells. Haemoglobin carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. If your iron levels are low, you may feel tired and unable to carry out your normal routine. When your iron levels are too low & the haemoglobin levels fall below normal it is known as ‘iron deficiency anaemia’ (IDA). If you don’t have enough iron, your body can’t make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells. The most common way to treat IDA is to take an oral iron supplement, either as a tablet or liquid. This works well for most people. Some people with IDA find that iron supplements don’t return their iron to adequate levels at all or fast enough. Oral iron supplements can also have side effects which cause discomfort (e.g. stomach upsets, constipation). An iron infusion administers a higher concentration of iron directly into the vein, bypassing the gut & increasing serum iron levels quickly without the gut discomfort or symptoms. See more

Hi, my name is Steve and I've been a nutrition and human physiology nerd for 20 years - so I built a nutrition company called "The Way Up."... Like most people who are interested in looking and feeling better, I ended up getting stuck trying one fad diet after the next - and ended up looking and feeling worse. Unlike most people, I got myself off that roller coaster5 years ago and never looked back. Bianca’s knowledge & inspiration have helped so many look & feel their healthy best. So what’s Bianca’s story & when did her health & fitness journey start? I started my fitness journey and joined a gym at age 14 seeking the perfect body. I soon discovered when I started working out, that it wasn’t just physical changes that came with exercising and eati...ng a healthier diet, but mental and emotional changes too. I discovered a natural way to boost my overall health, wellbeing and performance in day to day life. I finally found a way to combat the ever growing pressure of needing to look a certain way, and instead, I was able to focus on myself in a more healthier light and drop the unrealistic expectations on how I should look. I started to exercise to be fit, healthy and confident and the changes to my body were just a bonus on top of that! I encourage anyone getting started on their fitness journey or even those already training, to focus more on fitness related goals - for example doing a pushup on your toes or running 5km without stopping, and with that in the forefront, you will start to notice your body changing and becoming more defined. If you are new to training, then invest in a Personal Trainer to learn correct technique, keep your workouts interesting and make yourself accountable. Even I have my own Personal Trainer for all of these reasons. Daily exercise should be a priority for everyone. Whether it’s going for a run, yoga, powerlifting or simply getting the body moving again, there is something for everyone so find out what works for you and make it a part of your routine.
