25.01.2022 THURSDAY THOUGHTS I'm trying to get my posting back on track and stick to all the skin health goodness, BUT. The world is not normal right now and nothing at all is going to matter if we allow things to keep going the way they're going. So, I present to you a very (very) truncated summary of the current thoughts of Ames. - Whether or not you personally want a CV jab, please do NOT take the new, experimental one when it comes out. It alters mRNA (gen...etic material) which has never been done before. - The govt doesn't give two shits about your health. There is literally no reason someone who is 18 years old in 2020 should have even seen a cigarette packet in their life, let alone be smoking like a chimney with their buds. - Never forget thalidomide or the swine flu jab. - If you want to take a prick, ok. But you should defend to the death the rights of other people to say no. - If we cross this line (where a govt decides what goes in your bloodstream) what the hell qualifies as a human right? - You don't take scientific evidence from people who are have a vested interest in the outcome. If you disregard every bit of info from corrupt billionaires, payrise politicians and pharma companies, what remains? Oh right - the testimonies from all those 'crazy' doctors and nurses who tell a different story. - Coercion is not freedom. - There are a lot of men standing back and letting old ladies, pregnant mamas and young women protest and try to protect the rights of you, me and our children. Where are the strong, masculine men? - Police are beating the shit out of people for breathing oxygen, hugging their friends and disagreeing with the government, in so-called democratic countries. If you don't know this you are ignorant. The sickening footage is endless and worldwide. - Since when do we treat healthy people like lepers? 'Cases' are NOT a thing if you are NOT sick! See more
24.01.2022 HERBAL ELIXIRS I believe liquid herbal medicines are far superior to tablets and capsules. They are more traditional and have that olde world potions vibe - but that's not the only reason I prefer them. These are a few advantages of liquid extracts / tinctures that make them my favourite form of herbal medicine. - the formula can be tailored to your unique needs at the time. I have a dispensary of individual herbs that I then blend into your own formula whic...h might have 4 or 5 different herbs that are just right for you. We can often cover a lot of your concerns in one formula because a) I can put in multiple herbs specific for you and b) Each herb has multiple actions because it is a complex plant medicine with a wide range of phytochemicals and vitamins within it. - the dosage is flexible, making it easy to adjust for age and weight - easier to swallow - many phytoconstituents are optimally dissolved when extracted in alcohol (some medicinal components can't dissolve in water which is one of the reasons teas are often less potent) - liquids are easily absorbed into the body as there is no hard component to be digested - glycetracts and pear juice based herbal medicines can be used for kids, pregnant women and others who can't have alcohol - tasting the herbs can stimulate therapeutic effects via the tastebuds (eg. bitters promote the release of gastric juices and bile) - direct contact is sometimes beneficial eg. soothing or antimicrobial herbs for a throat infection - liquid herbs can also be mixed into tailored creams or sprays etc depending what you need treatment for - there is an indescribable energetic power to liquid herbs that is lost when they are further processed Liquid herbs are magic. My clients always come to love them. Are you ready to try liquid herbs? Book your naturopathic consult at www.theskinnaturopath.com See more
23.01.2022 We're going to be covering all things eco beauty and personal care in the Dandy Detox program! Did you know most 'beauty' products are packed with carcinogens, neurotoxins and endocrine disruptors? Have you ever thought about whether it's healthy to use synthetic fragrance (which can mean any one of hundreds of toxic chemicals - cos big business gotta protect their secret recipes) on your body? Or whether you should be using antibacterial ingredients on your skin and intimate... parts, which each have their own precious microbiome that keeps us healthy? Hmm. In the 6 week Dandy Detox online program, I'll be sharing with you all the brands, products and tips I've learnt over my years as an eco makeup artist, naturopath and working in spas. You can ask me all your questions and I'll share with you what to buy and where you can get it, and what was a waste of money for me. All the details for the program are on my website (link in bio) https://www.theskinnaturopath.com/6-week-dandy-detox-program We start on September 14th! These sweet little soaps are available in the online store for only a few dollars and have just a few natural ingredients. There are so many alternatives out there in the natural beauty world. One thing I love about the Back to Basics soap range is that they offer a simple, no fuss option for people who just want clean products on a family budget. Ingredients Coconut oil, olive oil, distilled water, lye, sodium lactate. 21.01.2022 ? One of my favourite herbs, Dandelion, is amazing for detoxification, and also holds the powerful energy we want to embody at the end of a detox. Native to Europe and considered a 'weed' in Australia, this beautiful herb has many amazing properties. Dandelion root: stimulates digestion and encourages elimination of wastes via the liver, gallbladder and bowels. The decoction or roasted root makes a ...great alternative to coffee in terms of taste and its gentle ability to stimulate bowel motions (but no caffeine). Dandelion leaf: Diuretic to clear wastes via the kidneys, nutritive. Also edible as salad leaves and makes a purifying addition to homemade skin cleansers. Both parts are powerful for clearing toxicity and healing chronic skin diseases including acne, eczema and psoriasis. Dandelion means 'lion's tooth' and is so named because of the leaves that each resemble a row of teeth. (The flower totally resembles a lion's mane though so we can pretend that's part of the reasoning.) Dandelion is a fierce little plant that will grow wherever it pleases and float in the winds to new adventures. Dandy grants wishes with its magical seeds and brings joy with its bright flowers. At the end of the detox you're going to be feeling dandy, fierce, energised, tuned in, clear AF and buzzing with inspiration. And, the knowledge you gain from all the trainings is going to naturally sow seeds all around you and inspire others into little tox-free changes. All the details on my 6 week detox can be found via the link in my bio! https://www.theskinnaturopath.com/6-week-dandy-detox-program This beautiful illustration is by Cavallini Papers, I have it hanging on the wall above my desk. #springdetox #skindetox #naturopathicdetox #liverdetox #gutdetox #toxfree #springcleanse #6weekdetox See more
20.01.2022 . I don't just mean that's my job. It's who I am. My work is defined by , not the other way around. ... If I had to stop working, I would still be a naturopath. It is woven into every aspect of my day, and affects the way I see the world, and of course the health decisions I make for myself, Jolly and even Chicky. I'm not always the best at showing up here on social media, but you can bet I'm over here taking my herbs, drinking my superfoods, using my natural skincare and taking care of my body, mind and soul every single day. People often ask me why I became a naturopath, particularly as I began my degree at 18, which at the time was quite young for this profession (many people enter naturopathy as their second career). I honestly don't know. I grew up with conventional medicine, nurses in the family, no mention of natural medicine ANYWHERE in my awareness. I found a herbal medicine book one day as a teenage and it was like coming home. It doesn't matter that I have always faced criticism and cruel lies from the propaganda, random losers at parties, doctors (when I have been a patient!), trolls and even close friends and family. It doesn't matter that I struggled with the lifestyle of studying or running a business. I was never going to, and will never give up on this. It's not a choice. It's me. I expect I was a healer or a witch in a past life. (I'll have to do a regression with my hypno @melissahogan_ to see what we find!) This is not my job. It is my very soul. You can't separate me from natural medicine. I will always see nature as the most intelligent, healing, complex, beautiful, magical, perfect force in existence. I will always work to understand her better, facilitate her healing power, and share my understanding with you so that you may also heal and grow. See more
20.01.2022 BREAK UP WITH YOUR MAKEUP For those of you who don't know, I'm also an eco makeup artist and yes, I personally love to wear makeup and sometimes a lot of it! If your makeup is ruining your skin, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to break up altogether. You just need to find products that are better for you. And there are SO MANY! You can see images of my makeup work, product breakdowns, recommendations etc on my eco makeup page @_amysum...ner_ if you're interested in natural, cruelty free, eco friendly makeup. Many cosmetics contain carcinogens, neurotoxins, endocrine disruptors and known skin irritants. Most well-known brands test on animals (and actually, most of them are owned by either Estee Lauder or L'Oreal so they're kinda all the same damn thing) and most are frightfully wasteful. There are heaps of amazing products that act as a combination between makeup and skincare by using nourishing, healing ingredients that can make you look and feel amazing everyday while actually improving your skin health, or at the very least, not making it worse. Some of my faves: @gressaskin Corrective Serum Foundation - highly pigmented but super lightweight, gives an incredible dewy glow to the skin, and the main ingredient is broccoli seed oil. @ereperez bronzer, blushes and eyeshadow pressed powders are so buttery in texture and come in the prettiest shades, and are made with soothing ingredients like chamomile, rice and vitamin E. @rmsbeauty cream luminizers will never be beaten for their ability to make your skin radiate health without being glittery or unnatural looking, and they are based in coconut oil. @glowtatts bio glitter (or any other biodegradable glitters) cos I actually do love some unnatural looking sparkle any day of the week. Makeup isn't for everyone but if it makes you feel more you, there's absolutely no need to compromise. See more

18.01.2022 WHY SKIN? Although my degree covered all manner of health and disease conditions of the body, I've always had a particular fascination with skin health. Predictably, this is largely drawn from an unpleasant personal history of acne, and my understanding of how deeply skin disease can affect one's life, as well as how frustrating the journey to healing can be. My skin troubles started at age 9 when I began getting little pimples and blackheads here and there.... By 12, my face was a red, pustular mess and it honestly didn't improve a whole lot until I was 18 years old and began studying naturopathy. Even then, it took another 2-3 years of trial and error to really get to know how my skin worked and to undo the damage from years of harsh antibacterial washes, a diet that wasn't right for me personally, and a general lack of knowledge of the intricacies of skin function. Aside from the desire to heal, I always found the beauty world alluring and loved the idea of body art, makeup and self-adornment as a means of creative expression. This eventually led to me training as a makeup artist. Of course, the products we used at makeup college were horrendous for the skin, and it was a number of years before I really embraced that side of my career, poring over the internet for the very best natural and ethical products. (You can see my eco makeup work @_amysumner_) I know that having a skin condition can hold you back from living your dreams. I know how you avoid speaking up at work or school, dating or even making eye contact for fear of the way people look at you. I know the cruel things people say and that the endless stream of unsolicited advice can be a knife to your weary heart. I know the anguish of believing people see you as nothing more than the blemishes on your face, when the truth is you have a whole world of magic within you. The journey makes you very strong, but I'm here to help you leave this particular challenge in your past. See more
17.01.2022 SPRING CLEANSE I'm running a 3 online next week because I just want to feel like all the time. Sunshiney, fresh, invigorated and inspired. Pretty much every human on the planet has a toxic burden in their body that is more than would be considered ideal. Our air, water, food, 'beauty' products, cleaning products, medicines, supplements, food storage, furnishings, water pipes and occupational exposures can all be sources of toxins. We are... born with toxins in our cells and even eating healthy foods like fish or vegies can include a dose of heavy metals, microplastics and antibiotics. Our bodies are incredible detoxifiers but in the modern world, they really do need a little support to stay vital, efficient and healthy. I've got you covered with 3 interactive, free group trainings that will help you identify if you need to detox and how to do so with foods and fun lifestyle changes. I like to focus on the positive so I'll be giving you lots of great new foods you can add into your life, my expert guidance on the best of natural beauty (I'm an eco makeup artist @_amysumner_ so I've trialled and tested a lot of products) and inspiring alternatives for the things you probably already know you need to reduce your use of. ? 14.01.2022 THE POWER OF NATURAL MEDICINE I have always innately believed that natural medicine is the best, and often only, way to truly heal the body. Media, governments and big business have spent centuries trying to discredit nature's magic, so it's understandable that many people cannot recognise their connection with nature, their body, mind, soul, or ability to heal themselves. These are some of the reasons I turn to natural medicine every single time fo...r healing and optimal wellness: - The goal is optimal health, not merely the absence of disease. - Almost everything that happens in the body requires nutrients - all those chemical reactions, creation of new tissue, hormones, neurotransmitters, muscles relaxing and contracting... they all require very specific ingredients (nutrients) and there are no substitutes. Your body will figure out a bandaid if you have deficiencies, but it won't be able to work correctly. - Naturopathy is all about considering the body as a whole and treating your health concerns at the root cause. I take into account the functioning of all your body systems, your past health history, your diet, lifestyle and everything else that affects your health - because it's all relevant. - By removing the cause, you can most often heal to resolution AND prevent future concerns. - Most herbal medicines work by nurturing your body's innate healing ability, meaning that you can maintain optimal functioning even after you stop taking the herbs. - Herbal medicines are extremely complex because plants contain a myriad of phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals. For this reason they each have multiple positive effects and minimal side effects due to the synergistic and balancing intelligence of nature's design. - Part of my role is teaching you how your unique body works, and empowering you with the tools and knowledge to take care of yourself. 12.01.2022 Tired of giving your body all the right things, only to find you're still fatigued and foggy? Your joints ache, your head hurts and you just don't have that zest for life anymore. What gives?! If this sounds like you, I want you to know you're not alone AND you're not necessarily doing it wrong. You're just missi...ng a KEY piece of the healing puzzle. But you CAN heal your body, with support and ease. And you don't have to figure it all out yourself. Look, I'm a naturopath and eco makeup artist. But you know what, I feel ya! Not only have I noticed that toxicity is a major problem for almost every one of my clients, but even I have realised I need to do a Spring detox to get back to feeling RADIANT and READY for anything. You see, although our bods are absolutely incredible and intelligent, the world we live in imparts such a high toxic burden that sometimes our livers need some extra lovin' and our kidneys need a dose of kindness, just to catch up on processing our high toxic load. Introducing... the 6 , . In an activated nutshell - it’s about how to optimise your health through freeing yourself of your toxic burden. Naturopathic program and expert guidance Included herbal and nutritional products to accelerate your detox results Pro advice and tips on all the best natural, tox-free beauty + lifestyle products In-depth trainings on gut health, liver function, skin healing + more Plus a whole bunch of inspiring bonus tips on things you didn’t even know you needed to know Follow the link https://www.theskinnaturopath.com/6-week-dandy-detox-program to learn more! 12.01.2022 STRESS LESS FOR HAPPIER SKIN Stress can worsen acne, eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions by: - Increasing adrenal androgen secretion (can contribute to acne, oily skin, hirsutism, alopecia etc) - Exacerbating reproductive hormone imbalances - Burdening the skin with extra hormones, inflammatory substances and toxins to detoxify (the skin contains both Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification enzymes. Toxins released via the skin can prese...nt as breakouts.) - Disrupting sleep - Increasing cravings for sugar, trans fats, alcohol, cigarettes or other crutches that harm skin health Skin conditions also generate stress and depression. Some ways you can reduce stress: - Get up a little earlier and spend time meditating, journalling or reading and inspiring book before you do anything else for the day. I love to climb up into my loft where I have incense, angel cards, journals and my yoga mat. As long as I make myself climb up that ladder I know I'm going to have a good start to my day. - Add calming touches to your home or workspace - candles, incense, plants, salt lamps, soft blankets, peaceful music. Whatever makes you feel relaxed. - Play happy music and uplifting podcasts (take a break from sad songs and true crime). - If you know there's one big problem that needs to change, take steps to fix it. - Set boundaries (I'm the worst at this but working on it) and say no. You don't have to spend your life pleasing others. - Get into nature. The beach, forests, sunshine, earth and animals have healing powers that should never be underestimated. - Naturopathic care for tailored herbs, nutrients and flower essences to support you. Jolly and I are all about the bush walks lately. There are so many pretty flowers and birds about in the Southwest right now and it is so calming to be surrounded by the presence of tree spirits. 11.01.2022 IRIDOLOGY The eyes may be the window to the soul, but they are also a literal map of your body, and a chronicle of your health history. The study of the iris (the coloured part of the eye) gives us naturopaths clues to your genetic predispositions, injuries sustained throughout your lifetime and toxicities or other imbalances currently present in your body. Some iris signs are genetic while others accumulate throughout your life. The eyes are connected to t...he brain, and are linked to every organ in the body. When damage occurs in body tissues, a visible alteration can appear in the correlating section of the iris. An iridology map identifies these connections (similar to a reflexology chart). A scurf rim is a darkening of the outer edge of the iris (the section that relates to the skin) and presents in a person prone to skin problems. The innermost third of the iris shows the digestive system (defined by a notable ring) and the other organs connect to the outer two thirds. Lacunae are little holes or petal shapes in the iris, and indicate damage relating to their location. Pigments convey imbalances of certain organs. Brown = liver. Yellow = kidneys. Orange = pancreas. (Genetically, there are only two eye colours - blue and brown. Green or hazel eyes are layered with extra pigments, but when magnified you will see they are truly either blue or brown underneath.) Fibres impart not only your personality type (are you straight and orderly, or wiggly and open and creative?) but also your state of health. Nerve rings occur when you've been highly stressed for a prolonged period, appearing as concentric creases in the fibres, from the excessive dilation and contraction of the pupils. In practice, I may use iridology to point me in the right direction or give me the questions to ask, but always in combination with consulting, testing and other physical observations. What would you like to know about iridology? See more
11.01.2022 N = P = s ss I help people heal and prevent chronic health conditions, and optimise their health, using natural medicines. ... I do this through taking a very detailed health history (of every body system from birth til now), looking at all the contributing factors in your life, as well as physical examinations and pathology testing if needed. I then piece together timelines and schematics to figure out how you got to where you are now. , ? I have something kinda like that in every patient file. I have no interest in simply making you feel better straight away (though sometimes that is part of it); I want to treat the cause to resolution, restore optimal functioning to your entire body, mind and soul AND teach you how to look after yourself going forward. Some of the treatment modalities we may use to restore health: Herbal medicines - tinctures, capsules, tablets, teas, topical applications Nutritional supplements Dietary changes Lifestyle changes Flower essences While each naturopath will vary and we are sometimes able to help with acute conditions, my broad recommendation is to see a GP/hospital for help with an acute health condition, and a naturopath for help with a chronic condition. Some examples of how I help: Healing acne, eczema, psoriasis and other skin ailments Restoring energy, brain function and muscle strength in CFS or fibromyalgia Calming the nervous system and improving function in autism, hyperactivity, ADD and ADHD Rebalancing hormones to enable normal periods and fertility Restoring healthy mood and sleep Contact me at [email protected] or 0419999853 to book in or learn more.
11.01.2022 Many pharmaceuticals are derived from plant medicines. Foxgloves are stunning purple flowers that grow throughout Europe. The leaves were first noted as a treatment for dropsy (the old term for congestive heart failure) back in 1870. Foxglove is generally not used as a herbal medicine nowadays, as its glycosides can accumulate to toxic levels. Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside which is naturally found in the leaves of the foxglove plant (Digitalis pur...purea or Digitalis lanata). It is commonly prescribed as a pharmaceutical medication for treating heart failure and heartrate irregularities (atrial fibrillation). Digoxin reduces conductivity within the atrioventricular node of the heart. It slows down your heart rate while increasing the force of the contraction of your heart (without increasing oxygen consumption). Digoxin is now mainly used as an isolated pharmaceutical compound. As a medication, digoxin causes adverse reactions in 5-20% of patients, mainly in the form of toxicity. In modern naturopathy and herbalism, Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is often the preferred heart herb due to its incredible range of benefits for every aspect of heart health, with minimal side effects. It's heart protective, antioxidant, collagen stabilising, lowers blood pressure, normalises arrhythmias and is a peripheral vasodilator. PS// If a doctor tries to tell you herbal medicine is nonsense, you may be dealing with someone who simply parrots propaganda they've heard without truly understanding what they are saying. It's not a safe or appropriate way to practise medicine or any other profession. See more

09.01.2022 A few fun facts and reasons I personally don't trust the mainstream media: - Last year ABC News wrote a story about me and Jolly, without interviewing/asking or telling me. They copy and pasted a post I'd written in a closed community FB group, added quotation marks to imply I'd spoken to them, used my photos of Jolly and got some of the facts wrong. I assume they do this all the time. - At the same time, Today Tonight contacted me via FB and email and were very unprofessiona...Continue reading

09.01.2022 If you are of reproductive age, the main purpose of your reproductive system & menstrual cycle is to enable you to reproduce. The main purpose of the pill is to ensure you cannot reproduce. the pill = hormone imbalance + dysfunction... I hear this all the time from clients - "the doctor said it would balance my hormones." What? It literally is designed to mess up your hormones. If your hormones were balanced you would be able to fall pregnant. Of course, our hormones do have many other roles. The pill sacrifices other outcomes of true hormonal balance. It can alter physiology, mood, cognition and behaviour in alarming ways. The worst one I've heard was a client who was put on the pill at age 16 'to bring on her periods' because she hadn't yet had one. When I was working with her at 25 she was still on the pill so she had not yet had a period in her entire life. A pill-bleed is not a period! In her case there was no way to know the true state of her fertility or hormonal health while she remained on the pill, but she chose to stay on it because she was afraid of falling pregnant. Post-pill acne is a massive problem I regularly see in clinic; women with previously flawless skin calling me in tears because at 35 their face has exploded with cystic acne. Fertility issues, menstrual symptoms, elevated blood pressure, weight gain, mood disorders, nutrient deficiencies and increased risk of cervical and breast cancers are just some of the other messes I work to clean up post-pill. Thankfully, herbal medicines and nutrient supplements are powerfully effective in the realm of restoring reproductive health. The pill has its place and it may be the right choice for some women, however it needs to be taken with true understanding and informed consent regarding the actual effects and risks. By definition, it CANNOT balance your hormones. See more

08.01.2022 The 6 week group online detox starts next week! Follow the link in my bio to learn more or send me a message if you have questions. Super excited for the ladies who have already signed up. x Not only have I noticed that toxicity is a major problem for almost every one of my clients, but even I have realised I need to do a Spring detox to get back to feeling RADIANT and READY for anything. ... You see, although our bods are absolutely incredible and intelligent, the world we live in imparts such a high toxic burden that sometimes our livers need some extra lovin' and our kidneys need a dose of kindness, just to catch up on processing our high toxic load. I pride myself on living a healthy lifestyle but even I am exposed to heavy metals, pesticides, car fumes and other toxins at a level that is so much more than what our natural bodies are designed to deal with. When we get overloaded with toxins from our occupational exposure, toxic beauty products, cleaning chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, water supply and all the other things we inhale, ingest and absorb - the result can be exhaustion, digestive disorders, skin breakouts, brain fog, aches and pains, sensitive skin, allergic symptoms, headaches, hormonal disturbances and more. Eek. There is some good news though. Every time I have undergone a detox, or guided a client through one, the results are always: RENEWED ENERGY + MOTIVATION CLEARER, GLOWIER SKIN COGNITIVE CLARITY + MENTAL SHARPNESS and A RESTORED SPARK FOR LIFE ITSELF! So, allow me to introduce to you to the DANDY DETOX. A 6 week guided, naturopathic detox program delivered live via FB + Zoom, to get you feeling dandy and delightful so you can live life to the fullest. We start next week! #springdetox #skindetox #naturopathicdetox See more

05.01.2022 Happy Spring! I hope it's started beautifully for you. How have you been feeling lately? If you're anything like me, or most of my clients, you may have been feeling... Fatigued when you'd rather feel FIRED UP. Foggy when you'd like to feel CRYSTAL CLEAR.... Dull when you'd love to feel RADIANT AF. Sometimes, you can be doing allll the things (the healthy food, exercise, sunshine, sleep, supplements etc) and still not be hitting your goals the way you want to. What gives? If you are carrying a toxic burden in your body, it's always going to get in the way of reaching your 100% expression of optimal health. Detoxing is, sadly, for all of us in order to keep our bodies healthy and avoid developing unpleasant signs and symptoms, and over time, chronic diseases. Many people argue that we don't need to detox - isn't that what our liver and kidneys are for? Our bods already are detoxing all the time, right?! While this is true, and I fully believe our bodies are bloody incredible, they are natural organisms, not created to live in a toxic, synthetic, manmade world. The amount of toxins we are exposed to from our water, pesticides/flavours/colours/trans-fats/additives in our food, offgassing toxins from paints/car surfaces/furnishings, meds, 'beauty' products, cleaning chemicals, occupational exposures + more is way too hectic for our bodies to keep up. If you want in on my , follow the link in my bio now for all the sign up details and weekly breakdown. Imagine how much more vibrant you could be feeling after 6 weeks of focus! We start September 14th.
