10.01.2022 RADIANCE 2020 What an inspiring chat Emma had with this powerhouse couple, Tahina Booth and David Westly, both born in PNG, both world class athletes and both have overcome major life trauma which includes sexual abuse, violence, depression and suicide to become world-class athletes. They met through the NRL Rugby world and are now married and making such a wonderful joint contribution to this world. David is now head coach for the PNG Orchids Coach and Assistant coach for t...he NRL Kumuls, plus working in the Rugby League and Public Health and running the biggest public health event in the Pacific. Tahina shared an amazing story story that led to her starting the Grass Skirt Project in 2017. This project has grown into an organisation that looks to help create the cultural and societal change in Papua New Guinea necessary to improve the status and health of women through sport. They spoke about acknowledging the trauma in your life to be able to live a life you’re proud of. What they shared was real, raw, and inspirational. Their talk opened up audience questions where we found members in the audience could relate to the trauma they had personally experienced, especially Lydia Gah, also from PNG - she is now an author of Survive and Thrive, a biography about her courageous journey out of domestic violence and her journey to bring this to light and not be silent - her words were very raw and emotional and touched us all. The WOW Program is an outreach service that delivers mobile GP and Nurse clinics to Cairns’ most disadvantaged community members including, but not limited to, the homeless, vulnerable, exposed to risk, affected by social disadvantage and otherwise vulnerable individuals. Their mobile clinics are free and deliver health care through w...eekly clinics that run from various locations including the street, shelters and homeless camps. The health and service needs of each individual are seen to by our experienced team, which include a nurse, social worker and GP. 02.01.2022 IMPORTANT NEWS TICKETS RE-OPENING FOR RADIANCE 2020 FOR A VERY SHORT TIME TODAY Due to unforeseen circumstances one of our speakers, Talicia Bolea, will not be able to join us tomorrow, but we are very excited to announce that we have two amazing speakers joining us on stage at Radiance 2020, David Westley and Tahina Booth. This powerhouse speaker duo grew up in Papua New Guinea and have individually overcome major life trauma which includes sexual abuse, violence, depress...ion and suicide to become world-class athletes. They will be talking about acknowledging the trauma in your life to be able to live a life you’re proud of. DAVID WESTLEY: David is a former professional Rugby League footballer who joined the NRL at the age of 18. A Papua New Guinea international front-rower, he played club football for the Canberra Raiders, with whom he won the 1994 Winfield Cup Premiership before spending time with the Parramatta Eels and the Northern Eagles. He played for 10 years before retiring. David is now head coach for the PNG Orchids Coach and Assistant coach for the NRL Kumuls, plus working in the Rugby League and Public Health and running the biggest public health event in the Pacific. TAHINA BOOTH: Tahina played LFL Gridiron, Represented Australia in Powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting and plays Rugby League for the PNG Orchids. She is also instrumental is starting the Grass Skirt Project, using sport to advance social change. Tahina has an amazing story to tell that led to her starting the Grass Skirt Project in 2017. This project has grown into an organisation that looks to help create the cultural and societal change in Papua New Guinea necessary to improve the status and health of women through sport.
