14.01.2022 It’s taken me (Alison) a week to get this post written up, but this group hug is worth the wait having looked back over the last month of racing with Kiwi Kaleb... Currie of Kaleb Currie Racing behind the wheel of The Speedway Shop SA6 Spike Chassis / Esslinger Engineering; including a brilliant 3rd place in the 79th Australian Speedcar Championship at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool! Firstly a huge thank you to the team working behind the scenes! The set-up king Paul ‘Spanners’ Murphy; the tireless Trent Collins who spends many hours at the Hardwyer homestead each week; ‘90s Dave’ Dave Palmer; 'Tinky' Brad Tink; and of course our Kiwi compatriots ‘Uncle Steve’ Steven Currie; the brilliant bun maker Hayley Currie; and Clark Performance’s own Tim Clark! Plus I can’t forget to thank the other half, Mark Harrington (Harry), who spends an untold amount of hours in the race shed! This legend works his rear end off, not only on the SA6 but also for The Speedway Shop, in addition to handling the work from the Presidency of both SA Speedcars - SASA and the national body Speedcars Australia INC. This household is all Speedcars, and Harry’s efforts are the epitome of that! We’re thrilled to be able to grab a podium placing with Harry’s XT Esslinger from his own racing days, and I think Harry is still living on the high a week later! Massive thanks to young gun New Zealander Kaleb Currie who not only delivered the results but was an absolute pleasure to have behind the wheel. Despite being buried deep in the B-Main at the Victorian title at Avalon Raceway due to an MSD issue, he was unfazed and raced hard to bring home 5th in the A-Main without a hint of stress or anger. I’m so utterly impressed by his attitude and I know we would have him back in the car in a heartbeat. With limited Midget track time we didn’t expect anything near as grand as the outcome Kaleb achieved in such a line-up and the team’s croaky voices the next day were testament to our excitement on the hill in the closing laps! Aside from claiming 3rd in the Aussie title, Kaleb also became one of only two drivers to beat American Carson Macedo in a Speedcar race on Australian soil, which is a huge feat in itself! Kaleb brought #thefastesthighlighter tag to reality. Thanks for your brilliant work KC! Thanks also to every person and sponsor who helped us over the title campaign: - Darryl Knuckey who pulled down and reassembled the Slinger after the blown head gasket at Murray Bridge in the lead up to the titles. - Ben Hall & Sam Milton from Chris Milton Engine Developments for their quick turnaround on the machining. - Brad Jackson of Jaxxon Wrapz for accommodating us on the Friday before the VIC title to get the S6 all pretty again with our ‘fairy vomit’ design we love, plus producing the S6 Kaleb Currie stickers we handed out to fans over both weekends. - Dr Dre Dan Occhipinti for his MSD programming magic and the Q41w crew yellow minions unite! - Stephen Pickering of Pickos Photos for the Warrnambool photo shoot and of course all the racing photos you see us use on this page, on our posters and more. - Andy Pearce who let us strip his sidelined V15 for a radius rod bracket. - Matt Jackson from Quick Time Titanium. - Steve Klemm, the legend who collected our flash new crew shirts from EB Graphics - Racewear Signs Design in Mt Gambier on the final night of the title and brought them to us in Warrnambool! - The boys at GibbTrans (please pass on the thanks Gibbtrans racing V55), Leith at Carlin & Gazzard Mercedes-Benz in Mt Gambier, Brett Squiers, and the legend Trent Collins who all assisted us when the van had issues heading home.
