07.01.2022 My name is Alexis and I’m 24 years old, living in Brisbane What Chronic Illness do you have? I have Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Orthostatic Intolerance, Endometriosis and some sort of autoimmune condition that they can’t figure out.... What’s the definition of your illness? Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a genetic connective tissue disorder involving joint hypermobility, skin issues and a variety of other issues such as chronic pain, fatigue, GI issues, dysautonomia & Mast Cell Activation disorder. Endometriosis is when cells that are similar to those that line the uterus grow outside of there. I have endometrial-like tissue surrounding my pelvis and on my diaphragm. How long did it take for you to be diagnosed? It took around 10 years for diagnosis of all conditions What are the hardest parts of living with your illness? I never look like I am in pain or unwell until I am at breaking point so everyone assumes that I’m fine. How do you remain positive? Being around positive vibes and reminding myself to live one day at a time because everyday brings something different. What are 3 things you couldn’t live without? Exercise, music and loved ones Favourite quote? Hmm either be the good or if you’re going through hell, keep going What is your greatest Achievement? Either representing Australia in European Handball or being able to complete post-grad studies whilst suffering the worst flare ups I’ve had. How would you use your last spoon? Watching a Halsey live set with my friends and singing at the top of our lungs
