25.01.2022 Following today's announcement from our State government and advice from SA health, ‘Waterhouse by the Sea’ opening is cancelled and the Strand Gallery will be closed in the interim. Our priority is to keep our amazing artists and supportive visitors safe. We are aiming to bring you a virtual exhibition in the coming weeks. We wish you and your loved ones, all the very best and hope we can look forward to seeing you again soon. In the interim, we have attached an image of ‘Small Steps’, a patinated bronze by Peter Syndicas as it has made us smile during this time.

25.01.2022 We are opening 'Waterhouse by the Sea' on Saturday 28th November. Our team had to 'down tools' in the middle of installation. Our profile picture is Ellie Noir's beautiful painting 'The Moving Infinite'.

22.01.2022 Wonderful new work from Scott Hartshorne, 'From Little Things', Eucalyptus cneorifolia, Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaf Mallee, and Pinus radiata, Monterey pine, both found on Kangaroo Island. Oil & alkyd on primed canvas panel. Image size: 76 x 111.5cm. In Scott's own words: 'The promise of new life evokes wonder as the... morning sun highlights the new buds and gum nuts of the Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaf sprig. And it is present in a close study of the light falling over and around the spiral forms of the Monterey Pine cone. On closer inspection beauty is in the details. Take time to look again See more

20.01.2022 We were finally able to have a small opening by Brian Oldman, Director of the South Australian Museum for 'Waterhouse by the Sea'. A small but happy crowd and it was great at being able to get this show up. We are open this weekend from 10am to 4pm and other times by appointment by phoning 0419 501 648.

18.01.2022 Beautiful work in progress by Joanna Poulson, we have a collection of her gorgeous paintings at the Strand Gallery and Thunderbird. To see how Joanna builds up her painting with many layers, make us appreciate her talent and hardwork!

09.01.2022 'On the Wallaby Run', by Scott Hartshorne, Eucalyptus cneorifolia, Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaf Mallee and a Tammar Wallaby skull, Macropus eugenii, from Dudley Peninsula, KI. Oil & alkyd on primed canvas panel... Image size: 91.5 x 61cm. In Scott's own words; My bush property on the Dudley Peninsula is home to the Tammar Wallaby, Macropus eugenii, and their bleached bones can sometimes be found out in the bush. The term ‘On the Wallaby Run’ is slang for a swagman’s life travelling outback bush tracks in search of work. My painting honours my shy nocturnal neighbours, whose faint tracks criss-crossed the property like the shadows and tracery of the Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaf Mallee in my work. See more

08.01.2022 Lovely to see everyone today! This week, we will be around for private viewings of work by Joanna Poulson, John Lacey, Merrilyn Stock and Ron Langman. The gallery in today’s afternoon light with the botanical shadows is a treat!

07.01.2022 Wonderful opportunity for artists who excel at Public Art! https://www.victor.sa.gov.au//railwa/public-art-commission

06.01.2022 Peter Syndicas 'Small Steps'

02.01.2022 We have been very privileged that our South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall opened 'From the Earth' with wonderful artists, David Dridan, Jordan Gower, Winnie Pelz and Harry Sherwin. Our curators, Fiona Sherwin and Chris Summer were incredible and produced a very sophisticated exhibition. Although with very restricted numbers, it was a celebration despite social distancing. We thank all those who attended and our guests were very responsible with adhering to the guidelines.

02.01.2022 It is cold, wet and windy in Port Elliot today but the gallery is cosy and warm. We have some vibrant work from Tom O’Callaghan, which will also lift your spirits! In Thunderbird Restaurant, Joanna Poulson’s gorgeous botanical oil paintings continue.
