25.01.2022 Hello guys , I hope you are keeping well and enjoying creativity, in whatever form or may take: baking, colouring, putting together an incredible spreadsheet: anything that makes your pulse beat a little faster and puts you in your happy place is creativity in my books! This is my mum, Sandi. She's an incredible human. She lives with her pup Shadow in a unit and is living solo right now due to restrictions. As I've mentioned in past posts, we have been getting our DIY on an...d challenging eachother with projects. I thought I would share them consistently here. They have been so much fun and have really kept both of our spirits up during the lull that iso life has been bringing. We have done a lot of challenges in the past two weeks, so I will spend the next few days uploading our projects. Some you have already seen, some you haven't, but stay tuned for content of a slightly different kind as I share our Mother vs Daughter Iso DIY challenges! PS. Can you believe my mother is in her mid seventies? I hope I have her sunny outlook and playful energy when I am her age. Send her some love, if you feel inclined #mothervsdaughterisochallenge
22.01.2022 I've started trying to establish a 'practise' when it comes to art. Starting with a sketch, I let it sit for a couple of days. Tweak it where I see fit. Maybe retrace it. Then swap up the composition a little as I trace it on to paper. Sometimes I even swap things up again at the painting stage. For a sit-down-and-do-it-all-in-one-sitting type creative, I'm finding that I like letting a picture 'sit for awhile. Coming back to a piece allows me to see where I can improve it.... I've also realised something else: I can repaint a picture twice! Sometimes the work of painting gives me a better understanding of where the image needs strengthening (eg. Composition or scale, colour scheme, etc) It's so funny, for someone who has studied creative writing, I think nothing of writing and rewiring drafts of the same piece, yet when it came to art, I always had the mentality 'you can only do it once'!! So strange where these concepts come from! Do you have an art 'practise'? Does your approach to your hobby follow a predictable routine or do you like to keep things spontaneous?
22.01.2022 Just a little morning colouring with my snuggle-bug, Atticus.
20.01.2022 Well. Hello there. #wip #polymerclay #guineapig #miniature #createeveryday
19.01.2022 You would be forgiven if you didn't know what an Apothecary jar was... It's basically a jar with a lid and they have become popular lately for little terrariums (tiny plant homes). The first #mothervsdaughterdiyisochallenge was to make a little terrarium style jar using only what we had on hand (no leaving the house!) We watched a video by @jaymuneediy that helped with inspiration and we both got to work using vases and candle containers, bits of found wood (coasters and kids... blocks) and beads to make the lids look chunky! I popped my favourite ceramic rabbit in mine: mum made do with a pet rock but I think they both turned out great! What do you think?
19.01.2022 Happy Sunday, friends. I hope it’s a restful one. Love Rach xx
14.01.2022 Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying using fluorescent colours in my colouring lately. This is a page from my Johanna Basford planner, using pens from Staedtler and a 5 pack of an unknown brand I snagged at Daiso for $2.80. They are so fine, I love the feathery, blended effect I can get with them, and the great pop of colour. Also used Derwent inktense for the background, ecoline liquid watercolour, prismacolor pencils and white gel pen and posca white paint marker.... Quite the multi media piece! I'm trying to find shortcuts to colouring in background with pencil as it is my least favourite thing! P.S. A couple of mini catastrophes happened to this page: I splashed undiluted Prussian blue watercolour across the wings on the left and later, my son accidently bumped me while I was using an indigo coloured pencil and firm pressure I used a little paint marker to try conceal it. I don't mind imperfection, tbh. It's a reminder to me to not take things too seriously. #adultcolouring #adultcoloring #johannabasford #johannabasford2020 #fluro #fluorescent #derwentinktense #ecolinewatercolor #prismacolorpencils #daiso #staedlertriplusfineliner #poscapens #signowhitegelpen
13.01.2022 The birthday spoilt-ness of today has been unprecedented: - morning , cuddles and gift voucher from my man - squishy hug from my son and presentation of my favourite guinea pig - colouring books and journals from my daughter, Nath and Hunter (arrived in the post just as I got up!) - FaceTime call with mum... - beautiful surprise delivery and from my MIL - beautiful words and messages from friends... Feeling so blessed and all loved up and we haven't even had dinner: a family fave, butter chicken! Much love to you, friends, I hope you have found some sunshine and joy today xx
13.01.2022 Look at that cloud of fog, would you, moving like a little ghost across the grass: and in stark sunlight, too #yarravalley
10.01.2022 You guys might remember me telling you a few posts back that I was working on a commission for a dear friend just before Christmas. It was to be a semi-surprise arranged by her hubby using a stunning photo she snapped at a place that is very special to her and her family. This kind of painting style is relatively new to me, so it pushed the comfort zone. I decided to work on a preliminary gouache mock-up in my sketchbook, using the process that I was introduced to in a ski...llshare class run by @clairbremner. The lesson came in handy, helping me to break the commission down into stages and focus on simplifying the landscape, choosing a colour palette and focusing on contrast. This was the final mock-up, which gave me the basis for beginning the commission. I really like how this turned out. I'll post the progress of the commission piece as it played out before Christmas. Spoiler alert: it was a very well recieved gift and a challenge I was very glad to have taken on. Watch this space!
10.01.2022 So I gave this little guy a home... what do you think?
08.01.2022 This little guy was probably my favourite commission to date... that yellow hat, the 'you-wouldn't-catch-me-dead-wearing-this-if-I-had-any-say-in-the-matter' expression... Do you have a classic picture of your favourite fur baby that you would like immortalised in pencil? Prices ranging from $90-$350.... Inbox to discuss what you would like to create. Comment any questions below. #animalportrait #petportrait #petart #petartist #pencilportrait #catlovers
08.01.2022 It is with so much pleasure that I present this piece, a very special commission for a very special person. 'The Dance' Acrylic on stretched canvas. A rhythmic tribute to intimacy, courage, and the safety of unconditional love.
08.01.2022 The second challenge in the #mothervsdaughterdiyisochallenge was to make a wreath from scratch: no form beneath. The first 3 pictures are my mum's wreath: she had limitations with glue, so she poked her flowers through, which is amazing in itself. She tried 3 different centrepieces: which one do you like? You've already seen my eucalyptus and bird nest wreath. We both came up very Spring-themed: a little wishful thinking on both our parts, perhaps! ... PS. The collage is made using an adorable photo of a nest vignette by Debby Hudson via Unsplash
07.01.2022 I'm so very excited: I just bought this beautiful piece from @naarli_art : 'Refresh': an original alcohol ink piece celebrating new life and reset. It resonated so beautifully and I knew right away that it would be a beautiful gift to mark my 40th tomorrow. I sense refreshment, resetting and new life ahead. Here's to the next 4 decades and many thanks to my mum for gifting me the resource to purchase this beautiful piece and also to Shenaarli, for her gracious spirit and wi...llingness to move forward in her gifting. Go check out her work xx
06.01.2022 Challenge 3 in our #mothervsdaughterdiyisochallenge was to make a sign! Mum did a great job hand lettering hers with a white pencil, using only what she had on hand. You have already seen mine: I printed the writing then traced and handpainted it. It's now hanging by our front door :) Happy creating! ... Xx See more
04.01.2022 A special birthday gift for a special couple, our 'Funcles', Craig and Iain (although the gift is mostly for Craig ) They always take us to the most lovely restaurants in city and truly put the 'fun' in 'Funcles' Meet Pixie. Isn't she regal?

04.01.2022 Hello and hoping that you had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was small but lovely and my dear husband surprised me with the most wonderful collection of gouache. I have been playing with them for a few days and came up with this little bunny that is more suited to Easter than New Year, but, oh well! I think it's always a good time to paint fuzzy animals. ... I hope that you enjoy the last few hours of 2020 and that the year ahead is filled with joy, hope, creativity and confidence. I have some lovely posts I want to share with you soon: some beautiful colourings of the Christmas page that I offered. You have done such lovely work and I'm looking forward to showcasing it here. Also, a commission piece I did for some special friends. I couldn't share my progress as it was a surprise gift, but will show you in the coming days. Until then, have a wonderful evening and see you in 2021!
04.01.2022 Plodding away on this delightful little advent colouring calendar by @johannabasford : I may or may not have started colouring today's image at midnight last night *u*
04.01.2022 We have been spending a lot of time at home here in Melbourne. Our front yard is so pretty, with the sun shining through the fir trees. Do you have a favourite yard spot?
03.01.2022 Just look at this beautiful work by Daniela over at @coloradventur ! It is so delightful to see your colour choice and magical touches to my colouring page! 03.01.2022 Not everyone believes in God, but I'm pretty sure we all believe in goodness. These days have been hard, haven't they? As I close my eyes to sleep some nights, I sometimes experience the 'low-light reel' parade before my closed eyelids: my perceived failures and disappointments of the day.... How different it is, to let the voice of goodness and mercy relay my day back to me: 'I saw you make that sacrifice that no one noticed' 'I'm proud of you.' 'It was hard, wasn't it, sweetheart?' 'you are a treasure.' Perhaps those messages are not being verbalised to you right now. But I see you. And mercy and goodness follows you. Well done, you.
03.01.2022 As we usher in a new home and a new chapter, I will be introducing prints and products for your home and possibly even a range of greeting cards to bring some cheer in the post. I will be creating prints from some of my existing works, such as this wide-eyed fellow, as well as creating new content. So watch this space in the coming weeks and months! ...
