24.01.2022 Sunday is gardening day at our place. We have been recycling all of the plastic containers from berries and apples we have bought and repurposed them into seed raising trays. The dining room is now doing double duty as our greenhouse! It does require the kids to remember to mist the trays a few times each day, but it’s working well and they love it! We currently have parsley, thyme, pansies, kale and spinach sprouting, and already have silver beet, radish, broccoli, cauliflower and garlic in the ground. They’re already talking about a summertime roadside farm stall ...

22.01.2022 See this box full of an odd assortment of items? It’s our mini ‘internet safety kit’, inside our current Level (grade) 5 Brilliant Box. While this box covers some core maths, English & technology aspects of the school curriculum, we also really wanted a clear, hands on way to explain what kids need to be aware of, when entering the online world ... and that’s just what this does (it comes with an activity sheet, to explain it). 19.01.2022 Anyone else about to head back to school this week? It’s a very different week, coming up for us: Lisa is heading back to the classroom & my youngest is returning to school. I think her brother is really going to miss having her working alongside him! Our ‘new normal’ has lots of elements we’d like to keep: family breakfasts, morning walks in the dawn & afternoon bike rides. I’m finding everyone I talk to seems to have loads of new routines or habits they also want to keep. Hoping we can hold onto those ones that make us happiest!

18.01.2022 We love providing resources that can be re-used in different ways. Here’s our picture peg cards from our downloadable Preschool Bundle. In the activity, we suggest using the a peg to identify the first letter of the word. Here, we’re using them to practice our writing by drawing the letters - and creating some pretty pictures too!! There are also alphabet cards, number cards and plenty of activities to work those fine motor muscles! 15.01.2022 So .... homeschooling going well today .... Some days, we nail it: we manage trigonometry, art, French and create marvellous written recounts. Other days, they run around with nerf guns. I think we all need to do what works best for us right now, especially those currently under tight restrictions. What’s getting your family through right now?

05.01.2022 Fri-Yay! We're through another week of working from home and remote learning. I think we're packing up school for the afternoon, lighting the fire and toasting marshamallows. What's the plan for your evening?

05.01.2022 Here's a peek at the contents of our current Level (grade) 4 Brilliant Box. There are 4 activities on ‘Tantalising Trivia’, with the topic: Famous Firsts. This provides a bit of fun whilst still learning and developing important research and presentation skills. Then there are 5 English activities in this box to practise apostrophes, making predictions, research and retell, language evolution and poetry. The 5 maths activities in this box relate to times tables, division, area and time. But as you can see, there's not a workbook in sight! 01.01.2022 In our part of the world (central Victoria), it is getting very frosty. We actually didn’t have water until midday, earlier this week, because the pipes were frozen! . We do our best to still rug up and get the kids outside, but some days are indoor days. If we get a few of these in a row, we all start to go a little crazy .
