19.01.2022 Ngoc Ha Thu Le is a finalist of the Redress Design Award 2020. She holds a Higher National Diploma in Fashion and Textiles from the London College for Design and Fashion, Vietnam, and is currently working as a fashion designer at Magenta Vintage in Hanoi, Vietnam. As one of the largest textile producers and exporters now looking to move into manufacturing, it is crucial that my home country of Vietnam does not make the same mistakes others have in the past for the sake of bo...th our citizens and the environment and to prove that a sustainable apparel industry is entirely possible. I hope to actively take part in this reformation of the local fashion industry. For her Redress Design Award collection, Slow Boy Archive, Ngoc Ha Thu takes inspiration from Japanese-style Americana, creating more sustainable versions of classic menswear items. Applying zero-waste pattern design to up-cycled textiles and reconstructed clothing, Ngoc Ha Thu presents a collection that encourages consumers to take a mindful, slow-living approach to life - for their own well-being and the environmen
18.01.2022 Pictured is a Ghost Net basket by Tammy Lalalra, woven from ghost nets retrieved from the seas on Groote Eylandt by the @anindilyakwarangers . You will find ...Tammy's new works on the Anindilyakwa Arts Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Digital Booth. Only two days to go!. Tammy Lalara is an important artist at the art centre who makes amazing baskets, earrings, bush dyed textiles and many other things. It’s easy to spot a Tammy basket! Tammy doesn’t speak or hear so this biography was interpreted by Bernadette Watt, Tammy’s friend. Ghost net weaving on Groote Eylandt includes the creation of baskets, jewellery and sculptures by Anindilyakwa women in continuously changing ways, incorporating re-purposed textiles, bush dyed cotton and silks, occasionally even the artist’s skirt! Recent developments include the use of recycled jeans from thrift shops and salvaged sari silk from ‘The Stitching Project ‘, a women’s social enterprise in India. Anindilyakwa artists have well and truly established their ghost net and plant dying weaving practices, with several artists receiving National recognition with their ghost net baskets in exhibitons and art prizes. #basket #daaf2020 #aboriginalart #aboriginalartist #firstnationsart #firstnationswomen #basketryart #fibreart #fiberartist #fiberartistsofinstagram @ Anindilyakwa Arts, Groote Eylandt

09.01.2022 This year Helsinki Fashion Week takes place from 19th 22nd of July 2019 in a self-sustaining environment, an environment which translates Utopian visions into practical realities. Moving beyond the village to existing infrastructures within the city, this modern space of interconnectedness will set an example of what a self-sustaining city would look like and how it functions. The ecosystem built in the city will blur the lines between elements that have been previously rem...oved from metropolises and our (everyday) vision. Challenges regarding the everyday pillars of clothing, food, energy, water, and waste are brought together in one place, and solved in line with the rules of sustainability. The platform presents a landscape where future materials and solutions are presented with case examples of future developments and already-commercialised products. It provokes interactions and understandings of the connection between an individual and the surrounding landscape. Our approach to fashion is holistic and emphasises the importance of local sustainability. By looking from the perspective of the individual, we provide a personal experience of circular living. Fashion has inspired us to solve global scale challenges. We are questioning everything, prioritising our individual well-being, starting from our inner conflicts to solve the collective challenges surrounding social sustainability. We want to blur the old man-made lines to create new paths, we need to be creative and work together. Climate change is bigger than a fashion week, bigger than the fashion industry, and that is why we need to approach the climate challenge from a multi-disciplinary angle. 08.01.2022 Redress Design the world's largest sustainable fashion awards are Thursday night. The competition works to educate emerging fashion designers around the world about sustainable design theories and techniques in order to drive growth towards a circular fashion system. We will highlight of some of the finalists. The first being Grace Lant. Grace Lant is a finalist of the Redress Design Award 2020. She holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Knitwear from Central Saint Martins and... a Master’s Degree in Creative Knitwear Design from Accademia Costume e Moda, Italy. She is currently working at UPW in Hong Kong. To me, sustainable fashion is a means of maintaining creation and expression through the form of textiles and garments, without creating a negative impact on the world. The designer must think beyond the final garment design, through its life and how it will eventually give back. It requires imagination and knowledge, and I hope to pioneer in this movement. For her Redress Design Award collection, Amalgamation, Grace draws inspiration from the resilience and resourcefulness of minority groups that are often disregarded by the mainstream, creating a timeless collection that can last a lifetime. Her zero-waste collection is created from a wide range of unwanted textiles sourced from some of the best Italian and Hong Kong mills, including deadstock, sampling yardage and end-of-rolls. Their stories are positive, powerful and inspiring to many young aboriginal females, helping them understand their worth and realise their potential. 01.01.2022 With some major changes, New York Fashion Week is going forward. The spring 2021 season will look very different with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has effectively eliminated the large-scale, in-person shows that have been the norm. Instead, most designers and brands are showing in hybrid formats including livestreams, videos, look books and other digital activations. Another big change is that New York Fashion Week is shrinking its schedule, now running just four d...ays as compared to six from previous seasons. The week is also seeing the addition of the CFDA Fashion Awards, which was postponed from June, and the return of New York Men’s Day. Additionally, Harlem’s Fashion Row will be hosting its 13th annual Style Awards. When is New York Fashion Week? The truncated New York Fashion Week schedule runs from Sept. 13 to 16. The week begins with Jason Wu, who is showing his spring 2021 collection during a live fashion show on the roof of Spring Studios to a limited audience. Ending the week is Tom Ford, who will be releasing photos of his spring collection. Which fashion designers are showing during New York Fashion Week?
