08.01.2022 Off my game today and let the city slickers beat me to the punch in wishing the original Energiser Bunny, Phillip Melville the happiest of birthdays. A product of St Peters, Waratahs are glad to claim him but then if Phil has played for your club, whether for twenty years or 2 days, you know you have a committed clubman on your hands. That's why his elevation to a Saggy Green - Australia O/50's team - last year was so gladly received by so many. Talk about reap what you sow! ...Melv played for Waratahs in the late 1980's, winning a first grade premiership in his last season before going to the big smoke - a season that included 53 wickets and the best performance in an innings (9-14 v Uralla). Only two blokes have taken more wickets in a 1st grade season: Tom Cooke (63, 56, 54) and Eric Smith (54). Melly could bat in those days and has a 1st grade partnership record among the bragging rights. He must have given that away in case those city blokes were put to shame. He's done alright for himself, with lots of wickets and even more, respect from across the cricket community and yet, he never forgets where he comes from or who he is. Happy birthday Phil. 07.01.2022 Just had a lovely blast from the past email from Peter Snell, who played 4 seasons with Waratahs in the late 70's/early 80's and was, along with Michael Connolly, cricketer of the year in 1980-81. I love the connections and re-connections social media affords you. It has its drawbacks but the positives can be worth it.

05.01.2022 Son of Peter Snell (Waratahs Cricketer of the Year 1980-81) ...

03.01.2022 A birthday shout out to Matt Pine, the best player Waratahs produced in the 1990's. Had it not been for the club dropping out of first grade, there is every chance he would have led a revival. A fine opening batsman, his seven seasons produced 1650 runs at 33; 789 at nearly fifty in 2nds and 650 at nearly thirty in 5ths; with his one season in 1st grade showing more than enough promise in a losing side. He made 2 centuries (2nd and 5th grades) and three 90's. Working out of U...NE these days as the HIgh Performance Manager across all sports, he also had a stint at the Sydney Swans as assistant strength and conditioning coach. Matt is still a keen follower of postings on these pages and its safe to say, having learnt his cricket ethics under Tony Bennett in Waratahs fifth grade, that he remains as true a Waratahrian as there is. Happy birthday. See more

02.01.2022 News from Armidale that Don Foster, one of the genuinely great bowlers to have been born, raised and played in the New England, has passed away. Don was known as a long term player for the Easts club but his first two seasons in grade were with Waratahs. In 1961-62, he became the only Waratahs player to take ten wickets in an innings, with 10-22 v Public Service in B Grade. His 141 wickets in that season has never been bettered. The following season he played A-Res and A grade and then changed clubs. Quite apart from his high level of skills with ball in hand, he was also a great bloke to play with and against - as genuinely nice a bloke as you could meet. Both son and grandson also graduated to Easts first grade. Funeral details to follow.
