21.01.2022 "The People At The End Of The Road gave their own names to places as if they never meant anything to the People In Between and needed a name. They didn’t spend much time there, so the names generally don’t have much to do with the place at all. They might have named them after a person they knew or about something that happened to them when they were there like Boggy Hole because they got bogged or Hell’s Kitchen because it was hot and they cooked a feed there. Maybe they thought they could claim a place by giving it their own name, but it usually just demonstrated how little they knew about the in between places". 10.01.2022 "I wore his songs into myself through mimicry, carried them wherever, unapologetically unleashing them on friends. Mimesis emboldened me, giving permission to be who I wanted to be, a rebel with cause to break family shackles". 08.01.2022 'I am not that star, but the closed eye which brings it into focus, And isn’t it enough To see with half our eyes When every point of light... Points us so powerfully in so many directions And sometimes it’s good to just hang Suspended between identity and Extinction'. 08.01.2022 http://www.theterritoryinbetween.com.au/territorialisation/ It is in a strange way that we mark our social and psychic boundaries by using physical markers to either exclude or include others: the bedroom in the family home that designates ‘my’ space and sanctuary, the family home on our street that separates us from other families and so on. 07.01.2022 Pine Gap (a photograph of the centre of Australia) Pine Gap is a ‘joint US-Australian’ intelligence facility about 18 km from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. It’s been there for about 50 years and is very secretive about what goes on behind its razor wire and prohibited zone. Many drone strikes conducted by the US in the Middle East and elsewhere rely on targetting information provided by Pine Gap’s communications interception infrastructure. We know Pine Gap is cruc...ial for targeting nuclear weapons and assisting the US military, the CIA and the NSA in countries where the US and Australia are officially at war, like Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, and in those where they are not officially at war, like Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and Niger. Pine Gap is the second most important US base outside the United States. Only 1 in 10 of the 800 employees at Pine Gap work for the Australian government; 2 in 10 work for the US government and the rest are contractors for military corporations like Boeing and Northrop Grumman. Pine Gap is a terror facility right in the middle of our country. Kristian Laemmle-Ruff http://www.theterritoryinbetween.com.au/mind-the-gap/
