23.01.2022 Making hands for the deco clock featured earlier, the only French hands I had just weren’t suitable for this style a clock so hands had to be re fashioned from some old brass hands that I had in my junk box, after scribing a design on them it’s a rough cut out with a cutting tool then lots of filing to get the shape just right. Next stage will be paint to match the numbers, tomorrow I will fit the whole together and post a pic of the final result.

21.01.2022 Today I finished off assembling this beautiful fully restored Carriage Clock. This piece is rare and unusual being housed in a Silver case with a lovely gold mask and enamel dial. The clock is French and circa 1875. The movement is of eight day duration striking the hours on a gong and has repeat function. This lovely piece went into the cabinet this morning however at $3500 it won’t stay there for long Thanks for looking, I hope you like it.

19.01.2022 Following on from the French Art Deco clock here are some pics of the movement during restoration

17.01.2022 This little boy climbed up on the window sill to check out the clocks, then dragged his brother up to take a look...

15.01.2022 we just purchased this lovely Art Deco mantle clock, The Alabaster Case is in very nice condition and will just need a light polish, the Movement however was in very poor condition, rust everywhere, seized up, full of dirt... missing a ratchet click and wheel, just a mess. However we specialise in mess, here are the before and after shots of the movement, a fine quality French 8 day mvt.. featuring countwheel strike on a brass bell. This clock will be finished soon, tested then up for sale.

11.01.2022 This ladies watch c1920’s was brought in for hopeful repair... do you remember the old boiler/ copper in the wash house that was filled with water fire lit in the firebox underneath and clothes were quite literally boiled before going into the washing machine, must have been a grubby lot back then. Anyway, this watch somehow ended up in the boiler where it stayed until the water was emptied and the watch discovered, for some reason it wasn’t going ( go on) so was chucked In t...he get around to it drawer and remained there for the next 50 odd years. Forward to now, no hands or glass, movement full of rust.. I got most of the movement apart however a couple of screws refused to budge so into a clip seal bag of lubricant for the offending part, by Monday the screws will safely come out. A challenge which a lot of watch repairers wouldn’t touch... I’ll show you some follow up pics later in the week. See more

09.01.2022 Sorry, forgot to do a follow up on the ladies gold wristwatch, finished it and found a nice antique seashell watch box to present it in for the owner. It came out great and running fine. Meanwhile, this stunning Deco clock has come in for repair/ service. There is a bit of rust and pitting on the movement and going by the colour/ sheen on the movement, I suspect the movement has been dropped into some cleaning solution which makes it look pretty.... but leaves a stain and pattern on the brass which is a dead giveaway not to mention rust developing due to the water based solution left behind as it was not dried off or removed properly, never mind that’s what we’re here for so we will make a start and show some pics later ( promise)

08.01.2022 Finally done, I am quite pleased with the way the hands turned out, the case has received a final polish, the movement is running beautifully and striking sweetly on a brass bell. The dog atop the case I think is a German Shepherd, others have suggested a sheep dog...whatever, it looks great. Price on this clock, $950.

06.01.2022 This lovely, albeit sadly neglected French spelter clock just arrived for restoration. The grubby rusty movement was laying loose in the case, bits missing and bits broken... The signed case has been painted with cheap gold paint so a bit of work involved in removing the paint and re gilding, will post pics of the restored clock at a later date

05.01.2022 We get many varied and interesting requests here at the Time Gallery, The other day a woman came in who does conservation work for the Melbourne Museum, she brought me this early Victorian plate which had been badly broken several years ago and simply drilled and stapled back together again, a common practice back then. So my job was to cut through the 8 staples and remove them, the plate will then be cleaned, glued together, cracks filled, pattern repainted then glazed...(not by me) I draw the line at that stuff, when done I’ll post a pic

01.01.2022 The French Spelter clock nearing completion...just need to regulate and it will be ready to go home.

01.01.2022 Picked up this lovely English Skeleton Clock c 1860, clock is under original glass dome and mounted on a grey marble base which is topped with blue velvet. Movement was stripped and cleaned in the ultrasonic, all brass hand polished and pivots burnished. The silver dial which was in ordinary condition was stripped of the old silver coating right back to brass then re silvered, the hands were reblued and all the pins replaced. I am happy with the result and it is now running strong and ready for sale.
