21.01.2022 ** 10am UPDATE - confirming that we are NOT proceeding on Sunday as the Greater Brisbane area affects far too many participants, volunteers, officials, supplier...s and staff. We will be back to you later today with further updates about contingency plans. Please bear with us, as soon as we know more, you will know more ** We know at lot of you have questions about what the Greater Brisbane lockdown means for you this weekend. We are just working through options and will be in touch with all registered participants as soon as we have a firm plan. Please don't call, email or text in the meantime, as you can imagine we have been inundated and we have no info to give at this point. We hope to have something to you in the next few hours.
20.01.2022 Update. Our postponed race from March will be held on the 5th & 6th of September. We haven't yet reopened the entry portal, but will be doing this in the coming... week. This portal will ONLY allow entry to the September event. Once we complete the September event weekend the portal will be rolled over to the new season ready to enter the events that begin in October. Dates for the new season will be released soon - we are waiting to hear whether we have been awarded a TQ State Series points event. Bribie Tri fits into the category of events 500 - 10 000 people so we have to provide an extensive COVID-Safe plan. This means you will see some organisational changes at the event - from registration, to transition, wave starts and presentation. Our plan puts safety first - but we also are keen to ensure we keep the Bribie Tri spirit alive as well.

17.01.2022 AAA Racing & Coaching COVID-19 We’re well aware that our runners and running community want to be running and racing and obviously we want to facilitate your ...doing it. In light of the recent announcement by the federal government we felt it pertinent to make a clear statement of intent with regard to the management of the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. We expect there to be widespread cancellations of many events across the country from Monday and AAARAC will adhere to any advisory suggestions, recommendations and directives as and when they develop. At this time, our calendar will remain unaffected but our priority is the welfare of our participants and those who attend our events with them. As such, we believe there is an element of self-care that needs to be applied by both ourselves and event attendees (as per Federal Government and WHO guidelines). Minimisation of risk and self-care: Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority. Regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash your hands with soap and water, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Practice good respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of used tissues immediately and appropriately in a bin. Given the developing nature of the situation there may well be further directives. That being the case we will develop a strategy and make further announcements as necessary. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and each other. Don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.
17.01.2022 Our Samson Challenge photos are now available https://www.sokimages.com.au/lismore-samson-challenge-2020- It's just 4 weeks since the Lismore Samson Fitness Ch...allenge, and yet life has turned upside down for so many in that short space of time. There is something surreal about our Samson photo collection this year... who could have known that these moments of teamwork and togetherness that seemed so normal at the time, would seem so distant so soon after. We hope that everyone can look back fondly on the images like we do (and get excited for the next challenge). Make sure you download your FREE images from the Prowler, Finish and Party galleries. The other images are available for purchase in either print or digital format.

13.01.2022 We’d like to introduce you to 2020 Restart A Heart Day poster boy, Greg! Earlier this month Greg was competing in a triathlon in Agnes Water when he collapsed... on the way out of the swim leg, a fellow competitor and friend noticed Greg and grabbed him out of the water. Quickly assisted by bystanders, including members from Surf Life Saving Queensland who recognised Greg was in cardiac arrest. A call to Triple Zero (000) was placed, members and bystanders began rotating through rounds of compressions and delivered multiple shocks using an AED. Our paramedics Michael and Leanne arrived shortly after to join an already well functioning team that had given Greg the best chance at survival with their actions. Greg received further defibrillation from the QAS and by the time the rescue helicopter arrived, he was conscious and breathing and wondering what all the fuss was about. Not even a fortnight later, Greg is recovering well and ready to head home from hospital after having his own personal defibrillator implanted and a diagnosis of a genetic cardiac condition that his family can now all be tested for. We have no doubt that without following the three essential steps highlighted by this years #RestartAHeartDay campaign - call, push, shock - that there would have been a different story being told about Greg's triathlon, more unfathomable then the one we're telling you today. If you have already learnt CPR, maybe it’s time for a refresher? Check out our website for courses in your area and whenever you’re out and about next, familiarise yourself with the location of AED's at your local shops or recreation areas. Doing these simple things could save a life!

10.01.2022 We have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's That Dam Run. We know that restrictions are being slowly lifted and some running events are taking pl...ace later in the year, but we feel that we want to pour all of our energy in to focusing on the 2021 event, rather than half planning for later in the year and waiting to see when restrictions are lifted enough for our event to go ahead. We are also mindful that from September our Biloela climate starts to warm up, which makes it less appealing for runners. So a big thank you firstly to the businesses who pledged sponsorship for this year, we can't wait to have you back on board in 2021. To all of our supporters of this event, we can't wait to see you all in 2021. We will have a date for next year's event very soon! See more

08.01.2022 BRING ON SEPTEMBER 6TH! With the Covid Safe Stage 3 Road Map and an updated Events Industry Approved Framework in place - we have now updated and submitted our ...Covid Safe plan with the Local Health Authorities. We expect that these will be approved well prior to the event and are proceeding with our planning as normal. Once we have the plan approved we will communicate an updated participant event manual. The main points for participants will be around reduction of unnecessary contact, venue flows, caps on seated areas, small wave starts or rolling start windows to assist maintaining 1.5m where possible. Online attendee questionnaire screening & sign on process will also be communicated well prior.
07.01.2022 Race Briefings are online! Due to crowd restrictions around COVID, all event briefings this year have been done online rather than as a group on the start line.... 06.01.2022 The Legend of Cliff Young: The 61 Year Old Farmer Who Won the World’s Toughest Race In 1983 a 61 Year Old Farmer Won a 544 mile endurance race because he ran th...roughout the night while the younger 'professional' athletes slept An Unlikely Competitor: Every year, Australia hosts 543.7-mile (875-kilometer) endurance racing from Sydney to Melbourne. It is considered among the world's most grueling ultra-marathons. The race takes five days to complete and is normally only attempted by world-class athletes who train specially for the event. These athletes are typically less than 30 years old and backed by large companies such as Nike. In 1983, a man named Cliff Young showed up at the start of this race. Cliff was 61 years old and wore overalls and work boots. To everyone's shock, Cliff wasn't a spectator. He picked up his race number and joined the other runners. The press and other athletes became curious and questioned Cliff. They told him, "You're crazy, there's no way you can finish this race." To which he replied, "Yes I can. See, I grew up on a farm where we couldn't afford horses or tractors, and the whole time I was growing up, whenever the storms would roll in, I'd have to go out and round up the sheep. We had 2,000 sheep on 2,000 acres. Sometimes I would have to run those sheep for two or three days. It took a long time, but I'd always catch them. I believe I can run this race." When the race started, the pros quickly left Cliff behind. The crowds and television audience were entertained because Cliff didn't even run properly; he appeared to shuffle. Many even feared for the old farmer's safety. The Tortoise and the Hare: All of the professional athletes knew that it took about 5 days to finish the race. In order to compete, one had to run about 18 hours a day and sleep the remaining 6 hours. The thing is, Cliff Young didn't know that! When the morning of the second day came, everyone was in for another surprise. Not only was Cliff still in the race, he had continued jogging all night. Eventually Cliff was asked about his tactics for the rest of the race. To everyone's disbelief, he claimed he would run straight through to the finish without sleeping. Cliff kept running. Each night he came a little closer to the leading pack. By the final night, he had surpassed all of the young, world-class athletes. He was the first competitor to cross the finish line and he set a new course record. When Cliff was awarded the winning prize of $10,000, he said he didn't know there was a prize and insisted that he did not enter for the money. He ended up giving all of his winnings to several other runners, an act that endeared him to all of Australia. Continued Inspiration: In the following year, Cliff entered the same race and took 7th place. Not even a displaced hip during the race stopped him. Cliff came to prominence again in 1997, aged 76, when he attempted to raise money for homeless children by running around Australia's border. He completed 6,520 kilometers of the 16,000-kilometer run before he had to pull out because his only crew member became ill. Cliff Young passed away in 2003 at age 81. Today, the "Young-shuffle" has been adopted by ultra-marathon runners because it is considered more energy-efficient. At least three champions of the Sydney to Melbourne race have used the shuffle to win the race. Furthermore, during the Sydney to Melbourne race, modern competitors do not sleep. Winning the race requires runners to go all night as well as all day, just like Cliff Young.
