20.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK. Many patients often question the need for dental x-rays. X-ray examination supplements the dentist's visual examination and allows for early detection and treatment of conditions prior to problem becoming more serious. Cysts, infections, impacted teeth and bone loss due to gum disease are some of the conditions we look for during the x-ray examination.

18.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK Just a few points to consider if you were contemplating undertaking overseas dental treatment. - dentistry in Australia is well regulated to comply with high standards of practice quality, safety and infection control - communication and cultural differences may result in difficulties in having your needs understood... - overseas dentistry leaves no recourse if treatment fails and it often becomes much more expensive to repair on your return to Australia - if you still feel a need to go overseas to have your dental work completed be vigilante in your selection of dental practitioner. 18.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK. Trauma to our children's first teeth is quite common - 11-30% of children will experience oral trauma especially between the ages of 2-4.... FIRST AID FOR ORAL TRAUMA - control any bleeding through pressure - check for more serious injuries e.g. bumps to the head - comfort the child - apply ice - pain relief - if baby tooth is knocked out do not put back - consult a dentist or hospital emergency department for medical assessment Ref: ADA newsletter

17.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK. Many parents ask when should they first bring their children in to the dentist. A well baby dental visit can be carried out at age 1 where the dentist can do the following: - take a thorough history - examine the child with the parent... - provide anticipatory guidance These visits familiarise the child with the dental environment making it a more comfortable setting for future visits. 13.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor's Good Friday Appeal Fundraiser Super excited about a very busy day for a great cause. Feel free to pop in and say hi. Thanks for all your support!

11.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK. Parents often question the importance of their children's first teeth. Firstly, they act as building blocks and as a scaffold for our second teeth. Early loss of our first teeth can lead to loss of space and crowding of our second teeth. Also as our mouth is the first indicator of disease, a mouth full of tooth decay is an indicator of a diet high in sugar and more prone to systemic diseases such as diabetes.

11.01.2022 The Tooth doctor TIP OF THE WEEK A fissure sealant is a thin plastic film placed in the pits and grooves of teeth to prevent decay especially when teeth first erupt and are most vulnerable. The most common tooth to be fissure sealed is the first permanent molar (6 year old molar). A review of studies has shown a 33% reduction in the rate of decay in teeth that have had fissure seals placed on them.

03.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK Brushing too hard will not whiten your teeth and most likely lead to tooth brush abrasion which will result in gum recession and possible sensitivity of teeth. Remember to use small circular motions when brushing your teeth and a soft to medium toothbrush head.

03.01.2022 The Tooth Doctor TIP OF THE WEEK. Always remember that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The ideal smile is not just about achieving a row of perfectly straight white teeth. The relationship between the teeth, gums and lips are all interrelated. These 3 components as well as well your personality need to be considered when your thinking about undergoing aesthetic dental procedures.
