Early loss of our first teeth can lead to loss of space and crowding of our second teeth. Also as our mouth is the first indicator of disease, a mouth full of tooth decay is an indicator of a diet high in sugar and more prone to systemic diseases such as diabetes.

The most common tooth to be fissure sealed is the first permanent molar (6 year old molar). A review of studies has shown a 33% reduction in the rate of decay in teeth that have had fissure seals placed on them.
