01.01.2022 New paper alert! We have just published a new paper in SLEEP Oxford Academic (Oxford University Press)! Using #HBP data, we found more severe sleep symptomo...logy was associated with greater reports of subjective cognitive concerns. We examined whether sleep symptomology (sleep questionnaire scores indicating abnormal sleep) were associated with a person's perception of their own cognition, and objective measures of memory and thinking. In 1421 middle aged adults from #HBP, we found that individuals who classified as having high sleep symptomatology, versus no symptoms of sleep disturbances, displayed more subjective cognitive concerns, but no differences in objective cognitive performance. However, subjective cognitive concerns modified the relationship between sleep symptomatology and psychomotor function, and the strength of this relationship was significantly greater in persons with high as compared with low cognitive concerns. Our results have important implications for better understanding of the relationship between sleep and cognitive decline, as well as the role played by subjective concerns regarding memory and thinking. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33838045/
