04.06.2022 Before Angie came to TUFF she felt a bit lost training at a commercial gym, just using whatever equipment was free. Now she’s feeling much more confident using all the equipment thanks to the guidance of our coaches, and enjoys following a customised program Before she came to TUFF she was eating less frequently which was leading to bingeing at night time. Now she’s eating more regularly and in a deficit which is leading to great fat loss This girl isn’t finished yet.

07.05.2022 Great results from Brad doing our recent photoshoot. Not only does he look 10 years younger, but he has been able to come off 2 medications.

24.01.2022 This mum of 2 has earned herself a killer bod through good training and following good eating habits while still enjoying a few glasses of wine on the weekend.

24.01.2022 Hayley Daniels faced some really big obstacles during photoshoot prep. To be honest, I thought she might have abandoned the prep at one point. But she surprised and impressed me by sticking it out and got amazing results! Photographer: Brett Earl Photography

24.01.2022 Presenting our new TUFF Mantra! Our mission is to make this become more than just words to our clients, both current and future. Let us know what you think!... P.S. The guy in this pic is my cousin who has achieved 2 world records in mountaineering - something you wouldnt expect of someone who grew up with chronic back pain! Daniel W Bull #challengeyourexcuses #lovewhatyoudo ..."The body loves movement. Exercise is a blessing and a reward in itself. It makes us feel strong, healthy and fit, both physically and mentally. Getting outdoors to walk, swim and be active in nature is a blessing, feels great, and is healthy for the mind and body. Nourishing our body with good fresh food in the right quantities is a blessing and a reward in itself. We use mindfulness around food so that we are in charge of food and not the other way around. We are not fat; we have fat. We are so much more than our body fat percentage. But working towards and achieving a fit healthy body helps us feel confident in our own skin both because of how we look, but also from exercising self-discipline to achieve this. We challenge the excuses and the stories we tell ourselves that might be getting in the way of us achieving our goals and being our best selves. We are capable of way more than we think. If it is a necessity, we will make it happen."

23.01.2022 I was really impressed watching Rachels transformation over 5 months. She was a great example of consistency beats intensity. She maintained balance over this time by enjoying quite a few dinners and events, but she always showed up to training regardless of what was going on in her life, or regardless of whether she felt like it or not. And after a big weekend she would just get right back on track again. This is what Rachel messaged today as she leaves to TUFF to move down... south: "You guys are amazing, Im so glad i got the chance to be a part of TUFF. Its truly changed our lives. I was a little sad leaving today, already cant wait to come back when i start work again in August."

23.01.2022 At Tuff typically a client comes to us to help them with Body composition goals, and we achieve great results for them in this area. But as coaches our goal is helping them beyond what they look like. We want them to feel confident in the gym with all movements, and be able to move and function in daily life. We endeavour to help them do this pain free and without injury and hopefully be a better version of themselves than when they walked through the doors the first time. ... It is always rewarding to hear of these instances, and comments from other practitioners like Kims Chiropractor: I have been treating Kim for the past 2 years with pelvic and back pain due to her pregnancy and carrying twins. Since joining Tuff Team her progress has increased significantly. She now has 90% mobility and her posture has improved drastically. Kim has been training with us now for 3 months! Her Twins also love coming to TUFF crche @tuffteam @kimcook_83

22.01.2022 When Bec first came to us she was pre-diabetic, had poor self-image and lacked motivation. She is no longer pre-diabetic, feels confident in her own skin, is a bundle of energy and motivation, and has glutes to die for! These photos were taken 13 weeks apart.

21.01.2022 A stunning transformation by Nicole Meyer, achieved through a lot of hard work, discipline and strength of character. You will be able to hear more about her story in an upcoming podcast.

21.01.2022 While I had studied nutrition in my uni degree years earlier, it was the first seminar I attended with Charles Poliquin that really ignited a passion in me for nutrition, functional medicine and the fitness industry. For 3 days I sat scribbling notes furiously, unable to get enough, feeling electrified, leaving with the desire to go flood the world with chicken, broccoli and fish oil. That passion continues to burn strong and I still cant get enough of learning all things nutrition and its impact on the human body, going on and learning from many other leaders in the industry. But it was Charles who ignited that fire. R.I.P. Charles! - Kristi

21.01.2022 Happy birthday to this inspirational chick! Jess is currently doing our photoshoot challenge. Yesterday at our checkin she asked Is it ok if I swap a meal for a mug cake (literally just 2 eggs, a banana and cocoa) for my birthday cake? Bless her! Jess youre an inspiration to us all!

20.01.2022 Another successful photoshoot! Our photoshoot is about so much more than just looking hot in a photo (which theyve nailed). Its about challenging yourself, sticking to something even when it gets hard, learning what it takes to reach a goal, a sense of achievement. This group faced some pretty big obstacles, including not being able to train for a couple of weeks due to a back injury, depression, a close friend dying of tragic circumstances, a mum of young kids whose husba...nd works away. But while there were some hiccups, they didnt give up. The principles and discipline learned during this challenge can be applied to all areas of their life. Now comes the hard part - post photoshoot, where we need to bring them back up to maintenance calories and still practise some discipline and restraint (while eating more food) to prevent rebound weight gain. But also gradually moving back to more normal, relaxed, everyday eating that doesnt involve weighing everything. Thanks Brett Earl Photography for the great photos. Lots of photoshoot spam to come (including their before pics)

18.01.2022 I asked Dan Garner his thoughts on what role genetics play in ones ability to maintain a healthy body fat composition. Here is part of what he said (transcribed from podcast): "Genetics play the largest role in NEAT. NEAT represents physical energy expenditure you partake in on a day-to-day basis, other than exercise. For example, tapping your foot, fidgeting, bobbing your head, walking, standing etc. These smaller things can actually account (and weve seen it in the data) ...for up to 900 additional calories per day, which is the equivalent of 90 mins of intense exercise. NEAT plays a huge role in body fat regulation. If youre somebody who has a genetic disposition to have a higher level of NEAT then its the genetic lottery, because these people, when put in a calorie deficit still maintain a higher level of NEAT and theyre not running into as much severe metabolic adaptation as their low-level of NEAT genetic counterparts. So essentially, youve got someone with a high level of NEAT, you put them in a deficit and they maintain their high level of NEAT. So they get leaner faster. And these are also the same people who if you overfeed them, their NEAT will actually increase so they dont gain any weight. And weve seen some insane data on this where you overfeed subjects 1000 calories beyond maintenance per day every day and some people only gain about a kilo; whereas the other people in the study will gain 6.2 kilos. A big variation. The reverse is true also. If you have a poor NEAT ability, youre going to need a steeper deficit to get leaner and youre also going to have to be very cautious with your surplus in order to stay lean while trying to put on muscle tissue."

17.01.2022 Jessica Kaitse is a long-time client who is part of the furniture at TUFF. She has put off doing the photoshoot for a long time now because she didnt want to get a tan! But we Beach Barbie Jess! For more of the story behind her transformation, we will interview her in an upcoming podcast!

17.01.2022 This lady sat down with me at our initial consult 15 months ago and told me she wanted to work towards doing our photo shoot. And she BLOODY DID IT!!!!!!!! I have no words for this lady. Shes just... nope, there are no words. But I am in awe of her. Anyone who knows Erin and her life will know what I mean. Brett Earl Photography

14.01.2022 Queens Birthday Super Session! Great start to the day!

14.01.2022 Couldnt be prouder of this amazing transformation!!! Jemma came to us nearly 2 years ago, then had a break for a year before coming back to us 6 months ago and progressed to do our photo shoot challenge. Jemma has done so well because she is super organised and super focused on her goals. To give an example, at our checkins I would often ask how she was going on her diet, if she was enjoying it, and if there were any changes she wanted to make to make it easier to stick to... or more enjoyable. No matter how many times I would press her, she would always just say something along the lines of, "You tell me what to eat and Ill eat it. I just want to get to my goals". Like everyone else in the group, its great to see her so confident in her own skin.

14.01.2022 How cool is this article written about Sarah Cracknell (long-term client and now TUFF coach) https://www.dailymail.co.uk//Sarah-Cracknell-33-weighed-90

12.01.2022 Melissa is an inspiration to women everywhere to show that age doesnt matter! At 55 this woman is super fit, strong and hot! Mels biggest reason for wanting to do our photo shoot challenge was because she felt she was always quitting right before getting to her goals, and this was an opportunity to prove to herself she could finish what she started. She did it! Hope you are very proud of yourself Mel!

11.01.2022 Thank you Ithaka Media who made this cool little vid of our photo shoot day!

11.01.2022 This feedback makes us so happy and proud: "After seeing continuous amazing transformations I knew I had to make my way to TUFF no matter how long it took. I have always watched what I ate and enjoyed training but was never educated correctly to get the results and long-term knowledge I needed. Being diagnosed pre-diabetic prior to joining, this was enough to scare me and forget about the cost, the travel and everything else that stepped in my way. ... I am so glad I have joined TUFF and I know that making this step has not only helped me now, but will make such an impact on my health for the good. Prior to joining TUFF my fasted insulin levels were at 13... I had a follow up blood test yesterday and I am officially down to level 5, along with amazing results in my hormone testing and iron, which has always been a massive problem. I am over the moon to say the least. I am officially out of diabetes category

10.01.2022 Should I quit sugar if Im trying to lose weight? Depends. Are you someone that can stop at a few squares of chocolate? Or are you someone that once you get a taste you lose control and eat the whole block?... See if you can identify yourself in one of these scenarios: Jane cant stop at just a few squares of chocolate. Jane finds it easier to stick to a diet by getting sugar out of her system. As she cuts out sugar and all those delicious calorie-dense foods that she finds she has a separate stomach for even when she is full from dinner (also known as the dessert stomach), her taste buds change over time and she find herself not craving or needing these hyper-palatable foods so much anymore. As soon as she has a cheat or free meal, she wakes up the next day craving those foods again and finds it difficult to get back on track. Judy finds it hard to restrict herself to only clean foods. As long as she can keep a bit of chocolate in her diet, and maybe a bowl of ice cream on the weekends, she is happy. To help her stick to her diet long term, she factors a few squares of chocolate in every now and then. She still gets results and stays healthy because she sticks to a calorie deficit and protein target and eats lots of veg and fruit. Which one are you Jane or Judy? NOTE: If you are a Jane, I do think its important to eventually become a little more like Judy for the long term. Being able to have balance in your diet and being able to include some chocolate without having to eat the whole block is important for maintaining your weight long term. This can be achieved in part through practicing mindful eating. MODEL: Lisa Dunbar PHOTOGRAPHER: Brett Earl

09.01.2022 Tuff Team member spotlight @natalijacvet Some inspiration from Nat:... What’s the fun in easy! 100% believe the key is in planning and preparation. You need to put the time in the training by making a commitment with yourself. When I book my TUFF sessions it’s like making an appointment, I don’t cancel! The success with my journey with TUFF was achieved by working as a team towards my goal. It was realistic and planned and I had a whole lot of fun! Don’t compare, unless it’s with yourself, you will always find someone stronger, leaner or better than you, in the end, it’s about the journey! @tuffteam @brettearl_photography & comp pics by: @perthfitnessphotographer

09.01.2022 PHOTOSHOOT FEEDBACK LOVE "What a rollercoaster of a 12 weeks it was with so many down days but so many positive days! it has been the most challenging yet the upmost rewarding thing I have done in my life. There is no better feeling than to look in the mirror and be completely overwhelmed at how much you have transformed your body. I have put in so much hard work and I am proud of myself".

03.01.2022 Tracey joined us in December after having a really tough year! Our photo shoot challenge was, to her, a way to prove to herself she is strong and to come out on top. And she 100% has done that! Can you believe she is 47? ?? When she first saw me she asked if she was too old to get abs! I think you have answered your own question Tracey!

02.01.2022 TUFF TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT @jennileehoff says this about her results Consistency is key. ... I started my journey almost 2 years ago over 20 kilos heavier. I wanted to lose weight but I wanted to make it stick this time. Working closely with my coaches I built gradually introduced new behaviours that ensured I stayed on track. There’s been definite ups and downs but I feel like my goal was never to far from mind. I’ve built a strong foundation that puts me in a good place for my next goal, the stage! See more

01.01.2022 BE MORE MINDFUL AROUND FOOD My brother and sister like to remind me what a little turd I was when I was younger. We would be given an ice cream and I would announce "First to finish their ice cream wins!" My brother and sister would inhale their ice cream, desperate to win the title of The Fastest Ice Cream Eater of the family, shout "I win!", then turn around to watch me leisurely lick mine with half my ice-cream still to enjoy. I was the real winner SUCKERS! Learn to be tha...t annoying person! Be that person who eats really slowly, savouring every mouthful. Be mindful around food. Put your food on a plate. Be present. Eat slowly and chew lots. Put your fork down between bites. Take a breath! Notice when youve reached that point of being satisfied and moving into that just eating for the sake of it territory. Or even to the point of bingeing where you are eating out of control and to the point of feeling sick. We find many clients sabotage their results by mindlessly picking while cooking, picking on leftovers, finishing their kids plates. Often these same people will be wondering why they arent getting results because they are eating all their meals on plan but arent even fully aware of this mindless picking that all adds up and puts them out of a calorie deficit. Give it a go - start being more mindful around your food and see if it doesnt help you eat less and lose weight! - Kristi MODEL: Jessica Kaitse PHOTOGRAPHER: Brett Earl Photography

01.01.2022 Wouldnt it be NEAT if you could eat in a calorie surplus and not gain weight? You can and most likely would - through a process named adaptive thermogenesis or metabolic adaptation. As your calories increase, so does your NEAT (Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) without you even being aware of it. Were talking about fidgeting more, being more expressive, moving more rather than sitting on the couch, and generally being more active. Levine et all overfed test subjects... 1,000 cals/day every day for 8 weeks. The average weight gained was 4.7kg. However, this varied from 1.4kg to 7.2kg. Of the 1000 excess calories eaten, an average of 432 calories were stored as fat, and 531 calories were burned. One subject had a NEAT increase of 692 calories per day!!! In other words, when fed excess calories, this person burned an extra 692 calories per day just through extra fidgeting, moving, walking etc - likely without being aware of it. Unfortunately this can work the other way. As you diet and train more, your NEAT adapts to the calorie deficit. You may fidget less, sit on the couch more, be less expressive and animated, walk less and generally be more lazy. To avoid a plateau on your diet, be aware of this and intentionally counteract it by wilfully moving your body more! We always encourage our competitors and photoshoot clients to invest in a FItBit or other step counter to help ensure their steps stay high while in the later stages of prep.
