20.01.2022 When is the best time to wire a fractured mandible in a yearling? The BEST time, without a doubt is when there is thunder and lightening (very very frightening) and torrential downpour. Luckily this guy stood like a champ and will be feeling better in no time!

18.01.2022 Coming Soon to Module 4: Dr Peter Weinstein, co-author of The E-Myth Veterinarian and Retention Marketing for Veterinary Professionals talks to us about creating a personalised retention marketing plan for YOUR practice and equine dentistry. Hands down the best summary of retention marketing I have ever heard (and I even told him this during the lecture!). Even if you did just 10% of what he talks about, your practice will explode (in a good way), even during uncertain times and economic upheaval. Dr Weinstein was even kind enough to write up some handouts specifically for the veterinarians going through this online training course - check it out in Module 4: Bonus lecture in the downloads section!

08.01.2022 Amazing!! We have had over 200 requests for this course to be translated into Spanish. That got us thinking, who else out there is a veterinarian and wants the opportunity to access education whenever they want, wherever they want, in their own language. So we thought we would take a poll. Please choose the language you would like this course translated into. NOTE: PLEASE ONLY CHOOSE AN OPTION IF YOU ARE A GRADUATED VETERINARIAN ¡¡Increíble!!

08.01.2022 When your horse is just as happy about his accomplishments as you are.

06.01.2022 Most horses pass from one human to another - some horsemen and women are patient and forgiving, others are rigorous and demanding, others are cruel, others are ...ignorant. Horses have to learn how to, at the minimum, walk, trot, canter, gallop, go on trails and maybe jump, to be treated by the vet, all with sense and good manners. Talented Thoroughbreds must learn how to win races, and if they can't do that, they must learn how to negotiate courses and jump over strange obstacles without touching them, or do complicated dance like movements or control cattle or accommodate severely handicapped children and adults in therapy work. Many horses learn all of these things in the course of a single lifetime. Besides this, they learn to understand and fit into the successive social systems of other horses they meet along the way. A horse's life is rather like twenty years in foster care, or in and out of prison, while at the same time changing schools over and over and discovering that not only do the other students already have their own social groups, but that what you learned at the old school hasn't much application at the new one. We do not require as much of any other species, including humans. That horses frequently excel, that they exceed the expectations of their owners and trainers in such circumstances, is as much a testament to their intelligence and adaptability as to their relationship skills or their natural generosity or their inborn nature. That they sometimes manifest the same symptoms as abandoned orphans - distress, strange behaviors, anger, fear - is less surprising than that they usually don't. No one expects a child, or even a dog to develop its intellectual capacities living in a box 23 hours a day and then doing controlled exercises the remaining one. Mammal minds develop through social interaction and stimulation. A horse that seems "stupid", "slow", "stubborn", etc. might just have not gotten the chance to learn! Take care of your horses and treasure them. Written by Jane Smiley

05.01.2022 VALE SUBZERO Sadly at 2.30 this afternoon, Subzero was euthanised at his Heathcote home, with Anita and Nicole Salisbury by his side. Subzero has fought off ma...ny health issues in his long 32-year-old lifetime, but today developed acute decompensated heart failure. This led to the decision to put him to sleep in a gentle and dignified manner at his home. Subbie’s last check-up was performed four days ago, and included an ultrasound exam of his heart and lungs, which have been holding up well until today. Upon developing further clinical signs this morning, he was put to sleep before suffering any pain or distress. Subzero, Australia’s most iconic and most well- loved horse will be missed by all. We extend our sincere condolences to the Salisbury family.
