21.01.2022 You might think that serious factures only happen through car accidents or other trauma but that's not always the case. * "Max" sustained his rather nasty fracture through an awkward jump and twist while playing. * Repair included adding some serious metal implants to re-join the bones and have them heal correctly. ... After his mandatory in hospital rehab and taking it very easy once home for quite some time, Max will be able to play and jump again. Wishing him all the best for a speedy recovery. See more

18.01.2022 Due to the changes happening in our area we have upgraded our COVID Safe Policies. This means our doors are open for any of you who have booked an appointment with us OR are admitting one of your pets for a procedure. At all other times - our doors are locked. * Once you have arrived for your appointment we ask you to call us. Our Reception team will then notify you when the vet is ready to see you. *... This means we can't accomodate walk ins without an appointment. If you have an emergency - please call us when you are on your way so we can organise to meet you at the door when you arrive. * If you need to order more medications for your pet - please give us at least 24 hours to prepare your medications or prescription. We will then contact you when your medications are ready to be collected. * Thanking you all in advance for your co-operation and support in keeping everyone safe during these challenging times. 18.01.2022 This is a true surprise. We had no idea we were even in the running - let alone make the shortlist. * We just want to Thank those of you who have clearly taken part in this and given us your vote. Although we all know there is no such thing as a "Best" for anything (that's an individual opinion) - we truly appreciate your support.... * This is especially uplifting for our team who have continued to show up and be there for our community's pets 24/7 throughout the challenging times we're all going through. * Thank you Team TVP and Thank You to our supporters. * P.S: If you want to add your voice to the clinic of your choice you can do so below https://www.heraldsun.com.au//cb7b57fbe10b47f8ccea5921ce4b

16.01.2022 One of our popular treatments for pets right now is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy which can be used to treat many different conditions. * The best thing about many of the new veterinary treatments is that they are non invasive, don't need medications and are stress free for our pets. * We have seen some wonderful successes with HBOT therapy since it was introduced a few months ago,... * For more info on HBOT - you'll find it on our website https://www.thevetpractice.com.au//hyperbaric-medicine-fo/ See more

15.01.2022 If you own one of the "smooshy" faced breeds such as Bulldog - Frenchie - Pug or Boston Terrier, then you have probably already heard of "Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome" [BOAS] which these breeds are prone to. Signs can include: Snoring - difficulty breathing - low exercise tolerance - collapsing * What you may not know is that early diagnosis followed by surgical intervention can significantly reduce the risks of developing the long term side effects of this cond...ition. * ONE PART of the surgical interventions include Palatoplasty - shortening and thinning of the soft palate to help open up the airways. For more information, check out our blog post below https://www.thevetpractice.com.au/soft-palate-surgery-for-/

11.01.2022 For ages we've been receiving calls from people wanting to make an appointment because their regular vet is booked out - for days and sometimes even weeks ahead. * Many times we can't help either because we are in the same position. * Something has changed.... * More people have pets? Less vets to go around? (We know vets are leaving the profession) Reduced clinic hours to accommodate the vet shortage? Not taking on new clients? * The best we can do is apply triage to all our calls each day so we can accommodate as many pets as possible that need urgent attention. * For non urgent appointments like Health checks, annual vaccinations, dentals, desexings etc we recommend you book ahead before vet schedules fill up. * What's been your experience with getting appointments? 08.01.2022 Please feel free to share this Vic Government Update with other Pet owners. We know there's a lot of questions coming through about whether you can take your pet to a vet under current restrictions.

06.01.2022 Some fun things to do with your dog on weekends.

05.01.2022 Dear Pet Owners * The veterinary profession is in big, big trouble. * This is because we have more vets leaving than joining. This is especially true for regional or fringe areas. ... * What this means is your community may soon have no vets to serve you and your pets in the future. * Just yesterday we read about another reputable country practice having to close their doors because they can’t find vets to fill the positions. * This is a tragedy. * We know it’s a tough job that’s become more and more complex and demanding over the years. * The expectations of veterinary and human healthcare from a pet owner’s perspective are the same but we don’t always have the necessary infrastructure to support it. This includes 24 hour and emergency services or government co-funding as in human healthcare. Coming up with a solution or a quick fix for your pet’s problem in a 15 or 20 minute consultation is not always possible and treatments can be costly. * While there are many reasons for this vet shortage crisis there is one thing you can do TODAY to help. * If you have a vet in your community be open to having a genuine working relationship with them. This goes a long way in maintaining morale. If you have a concern or a problem please speak with them directly and don’t take it out on them on Social Media. You'll be surprised what differences can be resolved over a chat. * Most often these clinics are owned by families just like yours which means they face the same personal challenges as you do. Being called out on Social Media for things that they can’t always do differently, or control destroys them. * Send them some positive stars on social media to show your support. It costs you nothing but makes a big difference. Honestly just being open deserves a rating. * You have pets you care for them and you want your local vet to be around when you need them. Otherwise you risk having to travel miles for vet services and in an emergency situation that may not always end well. * So this Easter instead of giving chocolates to your hard working vets and nurses send stars instead. * #supportyourlocalvet #loveyourpetloveyourvet See more

02.01.2022 Hello Pet Owners With the Easter break coming up fast you might want to make sure your pet's needs are covered for this time in case your vet is not open. * Things to consider include: Do you know your where your nearest emergency centre is in case your pet needs urgent attention? ... If your pet is on medications, do you have enough to see you through? (Prescription medications can only be authorised by your vet If your pet seems unwell today see your vet before the condition becomes worse to potentially avoid an emergency trip later * And last but not least - keep an eye on those chocolates and hot cross buns. Chocolates and sultanas are dangerous for dogs. * Have a safe and Happy Easter Everyone. See more
