25.01.2022 The most common cause of seeds failing to grow is letting them dry out at the moment that the seed germinates. If this happens the tiny, fragile, emerging root withers and never recovers and the tiny plant is dead. Tiny seeds like grass and carrots need regular gentle moisture while large seeds, planted deeper, like beans like a good water at planting then no more until the new leaves emerge

24.01.2022 We are open 9.00am to 4.00pm all weekend and full of beautiful plants.

24.01.2022 Hands up if you're having issues with White Cabbage Moth? We've been noticing them flapping around our nursery in the last few weeks and their green caterpillar...s have been hungry! Being one of the most destructive pests in the veggie patch, it's important to take control earlier. Here's some things you can do to control them and their damage; - Set up netting: if the moths can't land on your plants, they can't lay their eggs, and so the caterpillars hatch elsewhere. Insect netting is better than bird netting because it has a finer weave that they can't get through - Use decoy moths: they are very territorial, and thankfully have bad eyesight, so anything in your garden that is white and of a similar size will help to deter them from taking up residency - Plant land cress: this is a great decoy crop that is toxic to the moths, but tasty for us. - Use Dipel: better known as DP or Bacillus thuringiensis, it is a naturally occurring bacteria that controls caterpillars of moths and butterflies, but does not harm other insects. So when you know you have a problem, this is your go to. The video below lays it all out for you, so get protecting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u6pYSnS6N8

20.01.2022 Crop rotation is not just for farms. Even small gardens can use it to break down the cycles of insect and disease, both above and below ground. Biodiversity also results in a diversity of root systems, which in turn brings diversity in soil life; the easiest way to improve soil quality.
