12.01.2022 Still on the fence regarding the ingestion of essential oils? Being told that they are safe for use in foods as many companies do it? Consider this. Did you k...now that Wrigley’s uses essential oils to flavour their chewing gums? Must be a safe right? It’s all about the amount. All about safe dosage levels. Wrigley's use 1 tablespoon of peppermint essential oil to flavour 135,000 sticks of chewing gum. If 1 tablespoon contains approximately 15 mls of essential oil, then that works out that each stick of gum contains 0.002 of 1 drop of peppermint essential oil. Two thousandths of one drop of oil. This is the dilution that is meant when an oil is identified as "Generally Regarded As Safe" (GRAS) by the FDA. If you put a drop of peppermint oil in water or in a capsule, you are getting a dose roughly 500 times higher than the what is deemed safe. You are also doing it via a manner that the oil is not emulsified. The oil sits on top of the water. Still think a drop of Peppermint to flavour your water is safe?
