25.01.2022 Can we fix it? Yes we can! Havent had a fire yet we couldnt refurbish.

24.01.2022 If there is smoke coming out of the top of your chimney/flue its because of 3 things. #1 Dirty chimney that is not drawing enough air through the fire. #2 the baffle will need emptying or is flawed in some way( the bsffle creates a secondary burn in the fire by igniting all the wood gases. #3 Green wood( not seasoned). If you are left with charcoal its usually your baffle. The main thing is........ IS IT SAFE??? See more

22.01.2022 Might as well get used for something.

Metallic Charcoal with Sheoak burl handles One happy client who thought we were going to just do the seals and baffle. Nice little suprise for her.

19.01.2022 A new edition to the family. The Noble" pot belly. Joins are bolted with fire rope then welded. For added strength the joins are banded. No just your average pot belly fits wood 500mm x 300mmm. Rear flued for more space to top load. At the moment using the ashtray as the air vet while I come up with a design that suits. This warms a 20mx10m uninsulated shed not a problem. Finished in metallic Charcoal

18.01.2022 A mad dash between jobs. Corrigin to kellerberrin and back for a little French numbe. Oh but what a number. 3726 is the number to be precise.

18.01.2022 This is for all the DIY guys who think they can sweep a chimney. Its not just about shoving a brush down a metal tube. What can you tell by this picture?? Look at the soot. Why is there soot on the outside of the active flue. When the owner cleaned it last time he accidentally disconnected the two pieces and didnt know it, Ash and embers had been venting into the out flue casings and down on to the ceiling for a whole two years. How is there house still standing?

17.01.2022 This is what the dash was for a French Godin wood heater. A Godin3726 it needs s fair bit of work but a nice little fire when fully restored.

17.01.2022 Client request a more modern fire to replace their old tired Brown tile fire. Found this found and grab it because of the wrap around glass looked good and a modern touch. Can we fix it? Judge for yourself.

15.01.2022 Fire Safety. The biggest danger you can experience from a woodburning fireplace is a chimney fire. This is caused from a buildup of creosote in the flue catching fire. Creosote is a highly combustible wood byproduct released in the combustion process, and is black or brown in apperarance. It may be thick and tar-like, sticky, flaky, or shiny and hardened. Chimney fires do not have to happen. Here are some ways to avoid them:... Have the chimney inspected and cleaned regularly (the Australian Home Heating Association recommends once a year). Use only dry seasoned wood (dryness is more important than hardness). Never burn cardboard boxes, christmas paper or rubbish in the fire, as the sparks can set off chimney fires. Build smaller, hot fires that burn more thoroughly and produce less smoke. You may have had a chimney fire, or may be in danger of having one if: You have "puffy" creosote with rainbow coloured streaks. Warped metal. Cracked or collapsed flues. Discoloured or distorted rainhat. Creosote flakes and pieces found on the roof or ground. Roofing material damaged from hot creosote. Cracks in masonry. Evidence of smoke escaping through glues, firebox or masonry. Call us on 0459641323 to make your fire safe this Winter.

13.01.2022 If buying a wood heater makes sure it is compliant. All wood heaters for sale in Western Australia must comply with state regulations. The Environmental Protection (Domestic Solid Fuel Burning Appliances and Firewood Supply) Regulations 1998 prohibit the sale of wood heaters that do not comply with Australian Standard AS/NZS 4013:2014 (new or second hand). ... The standard was developed to reduce particulate emissions from wood heaters as they are a major source of air pollution, especially during winter. Particle emissions from wood heaters (as smoke) are significant contributors to haze events. Even if you are healthy, you can be negatively affected by wood smoke. If you have any doubts please gives us a call on 0459641323 See more

05.01.2022 Ash, soot and combustion residue can build up on the inside of a chimney flue and if not physically removed regularly can ignite causing a fire. In most cases you will see flames shooting out of the top of the chimney. DFES attends many of these types of fires during winter and most can be prevented by chimneys or flues being regularly cleaned. We recommend that you check the heater, fireplace brickwork, chimney and flue before lighting the first fire of the year to make sure... it is clean. This should be done for all metal flues and standard brick chimneys. Additives can be purchased from your local hardware store to put in the fire while it is burning to help reduce residue build up in the chimney or flue. If your fireplace chimney is brick, check that the surrounding fireplace brickwork has not cracked as this may identify a problem and reduce the chance of a fire creeping through the course in back wall. Flues going into the ceiling and roof space should have double or triple skins to stop radiant heat igniting roof timbers or cellulose type insulation. Many fires are caused by the incorrect installation of wood heaters by the home handy man or unqualified operators. DFES recommends all wood heaters being installed and maintained by a reputable business or tradesperson. If your flue or chimney catches fire call Triple Zero (000) and ask for fire brigade assistance.

03.01.2022 This flue was cleaned regularly by the home owner. The inner flue had almost rusted away!!!!!! Get your flues checked by a professional

03.01.2022 How do I know if a wood heater is compliant? A compliant wood heater must be clearly labelled with the words TESTED TO AS/NZS 4013:2014. This information is usually found on a metal plate or sticker on the back of the wood heater.... Depending on the wood heaters design, the words BURN ONLY followed by the specified fuel must also be affixed to the unit and visible when the fuel door is opened. If this information is not provided on a label fixed permanently to the unit, it is illegal to sell or offer it for sale. See more
