12.01.2022 What’s in a name? One of Wangi’s favourite claims to fame is that we are the home of Archibald Prize winning artist Sir William Dobell, who resided here from 1943 until his death in 1970. Dobell’s home and studio are lovingly maintained by the William Dobell Memorial Committee and is open to the public on weekends and public holidays. One of the most loved artworks among locals would have to be Dobell’s Wangi Boy, which takes pride of place at Wangi Hotel. The subject of the painting was Dobell’s own great-nephew Robert Stephenson. The term Wangi Boy has sort of just stuck since thenIf you’re a local lad from Wangi, you’re a Wangi Boy!
