While we're working through this current batch of orders and our waiting list of custom work - something I've personally embarked upon, after many many requests over the years, is producing a craftsperson focused set of commercial patterns. It's no small feat turning patterns I've developed... over the last few years into something suitable for general consumption but I've been trying my hand at creating something accessible and easy to follow. I'm at the stage with my first pattern for the collection where I'd like to put it out to test by fellow crafters and see how my work holds up. If you're a local Brisbane crafter who's looking to try their hand at making their own femme-style leather cuirass I'd love to hear from you. I have 3 sizes of patterns to test for our standard "Ariadne" design and I'm keen to see them made real. I'll provide you a hard copy of the pattern and help with any support I can. The project is designed to use 8-9 ounce leather and build time is approx. 6-8 hours. 21.01.2022 A few months on from finishing this build and I finally had a chance to put it through its paces on field. It worked really well. The weight is noticeable off-field but not so much while fighting. Movement is pretty good and its very comfortable to wear. Cinching it in at the waist very firmly with belts did a great job of helping the weight distribution so it wasnt felt on the shoulders. Heat load from the armour was less than expected but I think wearing it open at the n...eck helped a lot with that. It provides a good level of protection from strikes but I didnt put it to the real test with any solid strikes from a pike or similar. I suspect it will help but not anywhere near something like lamellar or a cuirass. All in all Im pretty pleased with how things went. I think itll be my go-to body armour for casual nights of fighting in future.

Hand made from start to finish. 8-9 oz veg tan leather so theyre nice, supple and well-conditioned. One inch (25mm) wide belt lengths so they might actually fit through the loops on your pants. Heavy-weight saddlery fittings as is my usual because why stuff around with little bits of metal when you can have something serious? 10 belts, 10 colo...urs, because all black all the time is kinda dull. Maximum approx. waist size listed but most people I know like to wear them a little long. 17.01.2022 An ongoing issue I've been having at local larp battle games has been face/head strikes. Even though they're illegal blows inevitably they still occur. For whatever reason I seem to be a bit of a magnet for them when fighting others and it was starting to weigh down on my enjoyment of the hobby. A recent glaucoma diagnosis spurred me into another round of action on this. After many ideas and a couple of attempts I've settled on the current set-up. I've cut down an old HDPE ai...rsoft mask and connected it to an @epicarmouryau secret helm. This protects the sensitive areas around my eyes/nose and teeth while leaving my jaw free to bellow and chat as needed. Loss of peripheral vision has been minimal. Im really liking the set-up and its been nice to avoid the usual 'skull mask' choice so common in the game. 10.01.2022 That's a wrap on this set. A bit of conditioning and prep for future transport to be done but otherwise complete. Started as a build begun by a friend I got the pieces back a few months ago and decided to push forward to wrap it up myself. The basic design is our standard 'Shieldmaiden' two-piece cuirass set found on our Etsy store. . I've used buckles from the always great local team at @makeyourownmedieval. Raven art by @darkhorseworkshop (go check out their awesome art an...d even more amazing patterns and tutorials). Shoulders are based on a very old concept I had that briefly came to life in a build somewhat recently. . All in all I'm pretty happy with the finished set and hoping to get it onto a model soon for some proper photos. 02.01.2022 6 months on from our decision to put commissions on hold and focus on our real life commitments and the world is a very very different place. Many plans have been sitting in a holding pattern and some have been shelved indefinitely. BUT what does this mean for you? 02.01.2022 Done! ~18 months and ~150 (or more?) hours later my jack of plates is finished. Such a huge project, started on a mad whim with so many many lessons learned. Its full of mistakes, blemishes and generally fuckery that I hope no one ever looks too closely but Im kind of proud of it. Now all that awaits is to pick up a sword and give it a spin some time once this covid19 business simmers down. Given the hefty 9kg or so it weighs due to my equally hefty 3XL frame once its all ...on and secure its surprisingly comfortable. Really is akin to wearing equivalent maille in many respects.
