Gill was flying the flag this week for the North Central Victoria chickens, who had been able to beat the 107g and 108g eggs recently produced in the Western District, in Ballan and Cavendish. Last week my ladies produced an egg that weighed in at 124 grams. ‘Ouch’ is the only word that can be used to describe it!! Gill wrote to us. It’s an impressive egg, no doubt, but it is not quite at the top of the pecking order. Unfortunately for Gill, the new number to beat was 126g, courtesy of a triple yolker from an Australorp crossbred sent in by Marcia. But Gill can claim silver thus far, beating another Western District egg, a 120g effort from Koroit. The battle goes on.
