25.01.2022 #ruokday2020 At TWA, we imagine a world where everyone has the skills and confidence to step into a conversation for those that need it. Today's initiative is a gentle reminder to ask those around you if they are OK, with a focus this year on what to say if someone says "no...". For many this answer is a scary one, but it doesn't have to be! ... Most people don't feel equipped to hear "no" and so unfortunately, this initial question #RUOK is never asked. This story is a common one that we hear time and time again and what we know first hand, is that after attending Mental Health First Aid training, this is the one area that significantly shifts and changes for all participants. If you would like to learn the skills to have that important conversation, we would love to hear from you: www.thewellbeingaffect.com.au #mentalhealth #mentalwellness #mentalwellbeing #mentalillness #mentalhealthsupport #support #RUOK #ruokday2020

24.01.2022 This story starts off by asking if you have noticed people in your life who may not be feeling great, possibly feeling flat, anxious or depressed? Or maybe it's you? Why is that Aussies have never felt more alone? When we were #allinthistogether a few months ago, a country and world united in lockdown and circumstance, there was a sense of connection of experience. But now, as we venture through this in different states or maybe in the same state but in different suburbs tha...t carry different risks, the lived experience among individuals is unique and is therefore challenging our feelings, thoughts and behaviours. So, what if you do notice someone is feeling a bit down, flat, anxious or depressed? What should you do? How do you determine if this is 'normal' for that person or if something a little different is going on that may require professional help? Mental Health First Aid courses provide you with this exact knowledge and skill! You will learn how to best support those around you during this pandemic and beyond by giving you an evidence-based, action plan to follow. It's not easy seeing those you love suffer. Please visit our website and take a look at the range of different courses we offer at The Wellbeing Affect. https://www.thewellbeingaffect.com.au//mental-health-firs/ #wellbeing #covid19 #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mhfa #mhfaaustralia #training #support #community #feelingflat #anxiety #upskill #weallhavearoletoplay #thewellbeingaffect

24.01.2022 I have watched The Final Quarter documentary many times before and so have my children (boys aged 9 and 12) BUT today, we watched it together. I asked my boys to pause the doco when they had questions or comments and let's just say that it took a couple of hours to watch a 75 minute show! I urge you to watch this with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or any young person in your life. I guarantee that you won't regret it! The conversations started, the lessons l...earnt, the messages taken away, the tears shed, the respect felt, the anger bubbled, the passion ignited! We all have a role to play! What an incredibly important and critical thing to do with the two humans that I am raising! #thefinalquarter #racism #dwatchwithyourkids #documentary #grateful #thankyouadam #adamgoodes https://10play.com.au/the-final-quarter

23.01.2022 There is finally a call for Mental Health First Aid training to be provided to ALL teachers in NSW schools. They need and want this training so that they are able to provide our kids with the support they desperately need, and as a teacher in my last course said "It was really valuable and I think all teachers should do it. As Kim pointed out, we renew our First Aid and CPR regularly... it is so helpful to update, learn additional information and bring it to the forefront ag...ain". The Wellbeing Affect has NESA approval for this training, providing all Proficient and Highly Accomplished teachers with 14 hours of NESA accredited PD hours, so it's a no brainer! We are delivering this training on the 23rd/24th September in St Leonards, Sydney so please contact us now to book your spot. https://www.thewellbeingaffect.com.au/trai/school-programs/ #wellbeing #wellness #youthmentalhealth #youthwellbeing #ymhfa #mhfaaus #nesa #accreditedtraining #professionaldevelopment #teachertraining #thewellbeingaffect

23.01.2022 #smilingwithmasks Today I went shopping and something hit me right in the face! Ok, not literally, but it was so overwhelming that I felt the need to come home and write about it. Please take 2 minutes out of your day to have a read. This is important. For those who know me, one of the things that I am known for is my smile. Not because it is beautiful or special, but because its something that is on my face most of the day authentically. I went to do my grocery shopping t...his morning and honestly, as I am writing this, I have tears in my eyes because for the first time in my life, I couldnt smile at the old man walking down the aisle towards me and I couldnt smile at the checkout lady It was hard. Like, really hard. I wanted to let the man know that he wasnt alone and that I was there to help him if the need arose and I wanted to show her just how appreciative and grateful I am, for all that she does. But, I couldnt, because my smile was hidden by my mask. So, I had to think on my feet and think fast! How else could I do this? I decided in that moment to smile with my eyes to the old man and have a conversation with the checkout lady. Was this harder than a smile? You bet yah! Did the conversation take more energy and thought? Yes. Did I really have to think about what I was saying and how I was saying it? Yes. Was I mindful of having warmth and love in my tone? Yes. Would I do this all again? Yes. It really made me think about everything that is going on and how in normal life, a smile goes a long way. Well, in this life right now, it doesnt. So, what can we do to SHOW others our kindness and care? If you have any other thoughts I would love to hear them and maybe, just maybe, we can get this out there into our society so that we can all start doing little things that take place of the once simple smile, that maybe, just maybe, will put a smile on someone elses face.

22.01.2022 We are excited to be releasing NEW training dates for our online Mental Health First Aid course. One of our most recent course participants said "Great course, very useful content, sessions were interactive, instructor very approachable and all participants enjoyed and got a lot out of the course". We had such a great time online and for anyone out there thinking that zoom sessions might diminish connection and fun, this course will absolutely challenge that. We laughed, we w...ere serious when we needed to be and overall, everyone walked away with new found knowledge and confidence to support someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or someone in a crisis situation. Being able to deliver this accredited course completely online has been a game changer! The elearning component can be done in your own time, at your own pace, with no pressure at all. Once you have completed that, you then get to jump into two zoom sessions with me that will last for 2.5hours and you will then have the option of becoming an accredited MHFAider for three years! We would love to hear from you: [email protected] https://www.thewellbeingaffect.com.au/our-work/

18.01.2022 Happy Fri-YAY everyone! As we finish off another week, it is time to take stock, regroup and maybe do something that you did when in Iso! That's going to be my challenge this weekend! There was a lot of talk about not letting go of some of the wonderful and crazy things we did as a family in Iso and of course, as life has resumed, this has been easier said than done! So, with 3 days ahead, there are no excuses! I would love to hear what you are going to do. I promise to post when we do ours! #reminisce #family #happyfriday #friyay

17.01.2022 Our socially distanced photo that marks the end of an incredible two days of Youth Mental Health First Aid training with an AMAZING group of women! One would think that after 14 hours of training I would be exhausted, but the opposite is true! The Wellbeing Affect is enabling me to live and breathe my 'why' in this life, which is to empower, educate and affect change in the mental health and wellbeing space! We will be running another course at the end of November (Sunday 22nd and 29th), so please get in touch if you would like to be a part of the next training!

17.01.2022 Waves of Wellness Foundation (WOW) has set the challenge to get in cold water every day of the month, from October 1 31 and what a timely initiative this is! COVID-19 has highlighted many challenges, with one of the most significant being the impact of mental health problems in our community. 'Ducktober' is not only a fundraising campaign that challenges people to immerse themselves in water every day during Mental Health Month (to support WOW's mental health surf therapy programs) but it also creates an opportunity to have important and necessary conversations about mental health! 17.01.2022 Thank you #batyr for inviting me to be a part of what I can only describe as an inspiring evening. On Wednesday night, I sat on a panel during a parent night that was conducted online and I witnessed the power, impact and strength that is Batyr! I have run Mental Health First Aid training for their staff and once upon a time I was a support worker during their 'Being Herd' workshops where young people learn to share their stories... BUT, Wednesday night was magical! I have ne...ver witnessed story telling like this and I was in awe of everything that this organisation stands for. 16.01.2022 "It takes a village to raise a child" is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment"... Deciding to join a Youth Mental Health First Aid training course is about stepping forward to be a part of that village as an integral member of the mental health solution that is absolutely critical in our country right now. We know that our young people need us li...ke never before and we need to be there to support them as a village, not in silo. You don't need to be an expert. There are plenty of those around and at the course you will learn if and when they are needed. 15.01.2022 I found this photo today and was transported back to our time in lockdown and was reminded about the fragility of our freedoms as we venture through these challenging times. As Melbourne goes into lockdown again today, it is important for us all to remember to look after our own mental health and to support those around us if we can We need to remember the strategies that we adopted during the first lockdown period, to get us through yet again! It is time to put these in pla...ce if you feel that your mental health is being impacted right now. Being with nature, going for a walk, minimising access to the news/social media these are a few ways to look after yourself. If you have anything else that has helped you and subsequently will help others, we would love to hear from you in the comments below. Alternatively, If you would like to learn more about mental health and wellbeing, please jump onto our website and have a look at the many programs we offer at The Wellbeing Affect. https://www.thewellbeingaffect.com.au//mental-health-firs/

14.01.2022 Happy Fri-YAY everyone! I hope you laugh, cry and smile as much as we did here at TWA! For an added bonus to this gorgeous story, listen to the words of Guy's new song! Just wow!

11.01.2022 Let's talk about self-care! I hear a lot of people saying things like 'I don't have time to look after myself' or 'I can't put myself before my family'... How about we start saying things like 'I am going to start taking care of myself, AS WELL AS my family' for example. Practicing self-care does not need to be one or the other. We can all look after ourselves AS WELL AS the other people in our lives. Morning walks with my hubby at 5:30am has been a mindful and deliberate ch...ange in my life to look after both my physical and mental health. What do you do to look after yourself? If you would like to have a chat about how to start implementing some wellness strategies into your life, please reach out! Maybe you have picked up some bad habits in isolation? 10.01.2022 As queen bee of three incredible males in my family, I am acutely aware of the importance of #menshealthweek. This week is designed to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to be done to improve male health in Australia and while I love to acknowledge things like this, I also know that this is something that needs air time every week! Males make up an average six out of every eight suicides every single day in Australia and the number of men who die by suicide ever...y year is nearly double the national road toll. This is not ok and we can all play a part and support the males in our lives... What can you do to support the men in your life? 09.01.2022 Let's be honest! 2020 has been a really crap year for all of us but I am working really hard to find the good in the bad! Sometimes, when life gets us down, it is so hard to see the wood for trees and sometimes it's not only hard but virtually impossible! It would be easy to classify 2020 as an all round awful year and for the most part it has been BUT at the beginning of the year, 7 families that make up some of my nearest and dearest went on a trip of a lifetime to Bali! No...t only will this be implanted in my heart forever, BUT it happened in 2020. It certainly feels like a lifetime ago, but it wasn't and so 2020, I want to say thank you for bringing us something pretty special! . . . #lifewithpurpose #personalgrwoth #growingandglowing #empowerement #liveinthenow #strongwomen #innerself #powerofshe #transformation #holistichealth #holistichealing #holistic #holisticwellness #holisticliving #holisticlifestyle #holisticmedicine #healingjourney #healthiswealth #womenswellness #mindbody #gratitude #integrativehealth #mentalhealth #thewellbeingaffect See more

07.01.2022 Paying it forward... As a Social Worker and qualified Counsellor, I often sit back and reflect on the educators and mentors that got me to where I am today. There were definitely a few that significantly shaped me as a professional and inspired me to be the best worker I could be. It is for this reason that 7 years ago, I decided to take a teaching role at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I decided that this was my time to #payitforward and play a part in sending... out ethical, professional graduates into the field (and hopefully inspire one or two along the way)! Last night was a beautiful reminder of the impact you can have in a role like this. I had my first class back since COVID lockdown and as I logged in, I was greeted by a huge smile from a student that I taught last year. She expressed her gratitude and thanks for the role I played in her life during her first SW subject, that has allowed her to carry on an excel in her degree #jobdone. This is all I have ever wanted out of my teaching role at ACAP and I just wanted to share because I strongly believe that it’s important to always go back to your ‘WHY’ in everything that you do. #acap #educator #teaching #socialworkers #counselling #payingitforward

It was taken as he was rushing to get ready for the day, he saw this sad cockatoo and there was no choice but to save him! In addition to this, let's be honest, it's a bloody funny photo and after all these years, I don't know why but I still find him hilarious!! #happyfathersday
