25.01.2022 A reminder to the mammas out there . Man o man am I feeling the weight of the week this week! The weight of trying to do all of the things whilst running on a low battery of sleep. . Because parenting is a 24 hour gig it can be disheartening knowing that there is no break coming. You might get a few hours of respite if someone is kind enough to look after your kids for a bit - but let’s face it, that’s not enough to bring that battery up to full charge.... . Be kind to yourself . Know that you are doing an amazing job even though it doesn’t always feel like it . Take a breathe and add something soothing into your day like some essential oils . Make a plan for how you can start to recharge, how you can start making yourself a priority. . 15.01.2022 Today was a good day - it ran smoothly, I felt good, that overwhelming feeling was no where to be seen and it made me think ~ WHY ~ not in a ‘wait this isn’t right’ way, more of in a curiosity kind of way ~ what made today good compared to the last 2 weeks of overwhelm and exhaustion . When we’re in the thick of those big heavy feelings it’s hard to see HOW the hell we’re going to feel different - it can feel all too big and those self love and soothing practices like breat...hing, walks, and being kind to yourself seem too small to impact . A nice gentle and supportive way to move through the sticky parts is to use what resources you’ve already got, but maybe forget to use ~ what makes the good days good? What are you doing? How are you thinking? What do you have on your plate? Do you ask for help on those days? Do you take the pressure off your to do list? Do you have a break from social media? . 13.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens i...n August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades. 07.01.2022 Getting through anxiety feels impossible when your in it - it’s feels completely bigger than anything you are able to handle- I’m telling you this so that you know it’s not just you feeling like that - it’s the ‘magic’ that anxiety casts across all of our minds when it flows through . The way to get through it is really to keep trying, to try different strategies until you find something that helps calm you a little and then give that strategy a good run for a few weeks to b...ecome a pro at it ... and then reassess- do you need to add something else in? Take something away? Shift something a little? . We rarely get anything right the first few times (just think about a baby learning to walk) so we need to give ourselves time to try, time to stumble, and time to get back up again... and again . 03.01.2022 Ah overwhelmed, I know you too well That place in time and space where it all seems too much and so your mind goes into a freeze state - you are paralysed and nothing you seem to do can shake that overwhelming sense of dread that there is just too much and you are just not capable. So why do we feel it and how can we move past it? . This should really be a 10 part series so let me try and be brief - .... Overwhelmed can come from so many places - too much to think about, too many mixed emotions, too much on your plate, too much stimulation... can you guess the theme? It’s too much... . It doesn’t necessarily mean that it IS too much, the key is that it FEELS too much for what you think you are capable of . The way out? My go to is to start journaling - what’s going on, how you’re feeling, and start to hypothesise what could lead to that feeling of too much... . This process allows our mind to free up and start to process - the first steps to navigating overwhelm .
