25.01.2022 With social distancing and isolation regulations in place, The Gap RSL Sub Branch has issued a cancellation of the annual ANZAC Day March and Services. Please read the article attached - outlining how you can participate and mark ANZAC Day 2020 in light of the restrictions placed upon us all at this stage of the Covid-19 pandemic.
24.01.2022 Brisbane City Council has received a notification from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services of a planned burn in the Enoggera Reservoir area of DAguilar Nati...onal Park from Tuesday 7th July to Friday 10th July 2020 (conditions permitting) As a result, smoke may be seen in the areas of Enoggera Reservoir, The Gap, Upper Kedron, Ferny Grove and Keperra. Some of the facilities and walking trails may be closed and visibility on Mt Nebo may be reduced for the duration of the fires. It is important that motorists use caution if smoke is presents. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires, and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration. For more information, please call The Gap QPWS on 07 3164 3600 or email [email protected]
21.01.2022 In the event that Queenslanders find themselves in the same situation many Victorians are now experiencing, this video is a good guide on the use and purchase/effectiveness of masks face coverings.
21.01.2022 I am really thrilled with the new look and feel of The Western Echo!!! From humble beginnings 26 years ago, when it was mostly a black and white publication with a few spot colour enhancements of 16 pages (and being on tissue-paper-thin newsprint paper), to going full colour and always having a locally based photograph on the front page & soaring to 40 & 48 pages of higher quality paper/printing (& having stiff competition from other print media/community news magazines/pape...rs) ... then the impact of social media and free advertising for businesses and a drop off in advertising support, its been a wonderful, and sometimes stressful, 26 years. The Western Echo is now the only remaining community newsmagazine in print & being delivered to homes and businesses! I am really thankful for the wonderful support of our local businesses, individuals, clubs and organisations over the last 26 years, who have shown incredible support and encouragement, especially during the Corvid-19 pandemic, when many had to close their doors, sometimes for months on end. The closure of APN print facility at Warwick (where The Western Echo was originally printed way back in 1994!) where it has been printed for the last 9 months following the Fairfax closure of the printing facility at Beaudesert Times, we have now moved across to Printcraft based at Hamilton and changed from newsprint to full gloss. I could not be happier with the finished publication - its looks and feels fabulous. I hope you all love it too!
19.01.2022 Please remember that we are all encouraged to commemorate ANZAC Day this Saturday, 25 April. Citizens who wish to mark the day are asked to go to the end of their driveway, or go out on their front verandah at 6am to mark one minute silence for the "virtual Dawn Service" across the nation. If you want to make it even more special and have an android phone, you can visit the RSL site, go to anzaclive.com.au (or search for Light Up the Dawn - an Australian RSL site You can then... use the three downloads, freely available: Virtual candle The Ode The Last Post You can use your candle, play the Ode and the Last Post. 2020 has brought some difficult times for all of us, not least is the passing of ANZAC Day without the usual ceremonies, marches and community commemorations.

16.01.2022 In these very uncertain times, please support your local businesses. They are a key part of our community and employ many locals and contribute to our local community in so many ways. If you CAN support your local businesses please do so. They are here for you and we need to be there for them.

07.01.2022 Christina Bastaja (Mum), son Elija, Craig Moyle (Dad), youngest son Cohen and daughter Anja, of The Gap. The whole family spent over a week creating a sea of poppies from egg cartons - lovingly cutting, painting and glueing hundreds of poppies. There was also a photo of Australian flag that was actually taken by Craigs brother in law while he was serving in the Australian Air Force in the First Iraq War on the base where he was stationed. Craigs father is also a Vietnam War veteran.
07.01.2022 A welcome relief for many I am sure... but.... unless you are truly going stir crazy ... keep up the social distancing. That is why we are experiencing fewer new infections. Weve done so brilliantly well until now... lets not undo all the great work we - as a massed society/community - have achieved so far.

05.01.2022 It is important that we all acknowledge and obey the social distancing regulations set down by Queensland Health. If you are unsure of where you can, and cant, go during the period of lockdown, refer to the list of businesses classified as non-essential by Queensland Health and avoid costly (possible) fines. https://www.health.qld.gov.au//non-essential-business-clos

Follow the instructions here: (website deleted)" I've blocked the number - it is a scam currently doing worldwide rounds - and the lazy scammers don't even bother to change the package number

Many thanks to all those locals who sent through their photos and thank you for your efforts, presence and commitment to showing your care and support for our fallen ANZACs and their families.... It was a truly special event - one I hope will become an annual observance throughout our fabulous community.
