25.01.2022 I feel a bit like a yo-yo at the moment with all these snap lockdowns here in Melbourne BUT I’m here to let you know that we can reopen again and workshops are recommending this weekend. Let’s hope it’s for a longer period this time. Due to density limits, ‘official’ opening hours will be limited for now, however we encourage you to make a time with us to come and browse at your convenience. Just send me a text/email/message/call and we’ll find a time that suits. Plus this wa...y you can not only come at a convenient time, but you’ll also have the place to yourself! I’m looking at rescheduling workshops that needed to be cancelled due to covid and we are due to release some new workshops too. I’d love to be able to release workshops in blocks as we usually do, but this is proving to be a little difficult due to snap covid lockdowns and restrictions. So I’ve decided that workshops will be added periodically for the remainder of the year and I'll be adding more as demand calls for it - a bit different from how we usually run things (with workshops usually being released in 6 month blocks) but I think given the circumstances with covid, this is the best way to do it for now. I’ll be taking my lead from all of you, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch. In the meantime, I’ll be open this Saturday 19th June from 11am until 4.30pm. I am teaching (Fine Finishing Polymer Clay - there’s still one place available if you’re interested!), so there may be a small delay in service but I’d love to see you (and so would Kenzi who is starting to get very annoyed that the outliers won’t come in to play with her!) so please pop in if you’d like. Once again, thank you all for your support both online and in person. I really appreciate it
24.01.2022 Tomorrow sees another return to in person workshops (yay!) and even if it has to be in a slightly smaller capacity than usual, I’m excited! I’ll be teaching my Polymer Clay Fine Finishing workshop and if you’d like to join us there is one place left. Take your polymer clay work to the next level by finishing your work to a professional standard.... Learn the secrets of finishing your polymer clay work to achieve the best results with the least amount of work and also how to achieve a perfect matte and/or shiny finish. Like the look of sanded and buffed polymer clay but find it too much hard work? Let me show you how to effectively use sanding materials and what buffing materials to use for the quickest, most effective method of finishing your work to a mirror shine without the use of varnish. We’ll debunk the theories on varnish what can you use, what will react with polymer clay. We will cover finishing your work with liquid polymer clay, renaissance wax and UV/epoxy resins plus more. We will also cover what you can do before baking to enhance the finish of your pieces and reduce the amount of fine finishing you need to do. As an added bonus, I will also share with you my methods for gluing findings to polymer and also for adhering polymer to polymer and polymer to bezels. If you’re interested you can book online or send me a message. The studio will also be open for sales from 11.00am until 4.30pm. 10 Marna Street, Healesville. You must wear a face mask and digitally sign in. Please also be aware that there may be a slight delay with service as I am teaching but you are welcome to browse in the meantime and I’ll be as quick as I can. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
22.01.2022 We’ve taken a few hours out of the studio this afternoon to get some fresh air, do a bit of garden maintenance and spend some time with my girl (who is waiting by the gate because she wants to go swimming ). I’ll be back in the studio soon to finish adding the rest of the new products. All orders placed up until 10.30am today have been posted. Anything that has come in this afternoon/this evening will be posted tomorrow morning. ... Thanks again so much for your support! #thewhimsicalbead #freshairtherapy #goldiesofinstagram #jewellerymakingsupplies #yarravalley #healesville #lovemygarden
22.01.2022 I’m taking a break from uploading studio stock today to work on a few new Workshops in a Box. I’m hoping to have two new ones plus the out of stock boxes restocked by early October. 21.01.2022 Today marks The Whimsical Bead’s 14th birthday! I can't quite believe it to be honest. It seems like only yesterday I was sitting down with a million fonts trying to work out a business logo! So many memories. A lot has changed over the years but my philosophy and dedication has not. As a child, I loved to create, however I never really found a medium that I was passionate about until later in life as an adult. More than 15 years ago I was going through a pretty hard time i...Continue reading
21.01.2022 Our first polymer clay workshop of the year is on tomorrow, Sunday 7th February with Leanne Fergeus Art. Students will be learning this beautiful ‘Black Opal’ technique and create earrings, pendants and cabochons. They will also learn Leanne’s secrets to working with resin to get a beautiful shiny finish on their pieces. We’ve had a last minute cancellation so if you love the look of these gorgeous ‘black opal’ pieces, then don’t miss out book your place now. Book online or ...send me a message. All skill levels welcome including beginners. We are almost ready to retire this workshop to make way for new ones. The studio will also be open for sales/browsing tomorrow (Sunday 7th February) from 10.00am until 3.00pm so you can come and visit without an appointment and see where we are and what we do! I’d love to meet you. We’ve had quite a few new products arrive too so you can come and see those in person (of course you can always shop online too!). 10 Marna Street (2nd Marna off Ayres rd), Healesville VIC
21.01.2022 So, I’m sure you’ve heard the news....we are in lockdown for the next 5 days from 11.59pm tonight. To say I’m feeling deflated doesn’t really describe it. I understand it, and I’m for it, but the work behind the scenes here over the past few months to get these workshops up and running again has been phenomenal. So many things to consider and organise. 80 hr weeks for the past almost 12 months seemed worth it to finally have a sense of purpose and normality return. We’ve ha...d 3 workshops to cancel in those 5 days which is devastating. I’ve spent the afternoon calling all the attendees some of which have been waiting almost 12 months for a reschedule (if you haven’t had a call check your email and voice messages ). We will reschedule as soon as we can but in the meantime YES! the online store is open and we can still ship your orders out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I am so appreciative of the support I’ve received not only this year but throughout 2020 and I know so many of you were looking forward to coming to the studio this coming week and so I’ve decided to offer you all FREE EXPRESS SHIPPING on any order over $60 all weekend (ends 11.59pm AEDT Sunday 14th Feb). Just enter the code LOCKDOWN LOVE during checkout for the discount to be applied. Thanks again for all the love. I’m letting myself feel all the feels and then I’ll pick myself up like I always do and carry on. We’ve been through much worse. Onwards and upwards! - Dani xx
20.01.2022 Our Jacquard restock order just arrived and in it was the new Pearl Ex colours that we’ve been waiting several months for! Yay!!! There are 6 new colours (5 technically but the Rose Gold is new for us too!). Knox Gold Hot Copper... Duo Green-Yellow Duo Blue-Purple Duo Aqua-Blue They are super yummy and I can tell I won’t even have time to play with them before they’re all sold! We’ve also been able to restock most of our other colours and the rest should arrive early next month. What’s your favourite Pearl Ex pigment/mica colour??? #thewhimsicalbead #pearlexpigment #pearlex #jacquardproducts #polymerclaysupplies #polymerclay #artistsupplies #craftsupplies #newstock #restock
19.01.2022 I’ve got a good selection of resin bead strands here. What do you think, should I list them online?? #thewhimsicalbead #resinbeads #jewellerymaking #jewellerymakingsupplies #beads #beadsgalore #beadstrands #healesville
18.01.2022 Just a reminder that there are still significant delays with Australia Post. We are encouraging customers to select Express Post if you need your items in a timely manner as Australia Post has stated these parcels will be given priority. We've had mixed results with our deliveries. Some express posts parcels are arriving overnight whilst some are taking a few days to a week. Some standard parcels are only taking a week whilst others are taking up to 4 weeks. There is no way t...o predict the outcome so please ensure you select Express Post if you'd like to ensure you get your parcels as quickly as possible. As always, we are processing orders and shipping within 24 - 48hrs (usually closer to 24hrs). The only day we don't ship is Sunday as our post office (and the one in the next town) is closed at the moment. Previously, sometimes we used to post in the post box outside the post office but we're not doing that during these crazy times to ensure all parcels are being scanned into the system. If you have any queries at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you all for your support #thewhimsicalbead #fastturnaround #creativesupplies #polymerclay #polymerclaysupplies #jewellerymakingsupplies #jewellerymaking #shopsmall #healesville
18.01.2022 It’s very hard for me to stop and ‘relax’ or take time out when I’ve got so much to do. Getting the store online, launching our ‘Workshop in a Box’ products, implementing new stocktaking/accounting systems and planning for the remainder of next year and into 2021 has meant 60-80 hour weeks for most of this year. I love my job so it’s easy most days to just keep going but a few little gems of human beings reminded me recently that it was time to stop. So, a few weeks ago I m...ade these polymer clay mokume gane veneers and yesterday I made these into jewellery components. Maybe this weekend they’ll be sanded, buffed and made into jewellery!? It was nice to get back to the clay after months of having it just sitting there. And sometimes a few hours is all you need to just recharge a little (even if I was exhausted afterwards lol!!). Did you get some creative play in this weekend??
17.01.2022 We don’t stock a huge amount of beads but when I saw these I knew I had to put them in the store! They’re sold per strand and there’s around 65 beads per strand. Use them to compliment your handmade earrings, bracelets etc or string them up into a necklace or bracelet on their own. So many options. Online now!
17.01.2022 These are just some of the beautiful alcohol ink colours we have in stock at the moment. I know many of you are waiting on the Alcohol Ink Art Workshop in a Box to be restocked. This will likely be within the next 3 weeks or so. So be sure to sign up for restock notifications so you know as soon as this happens! #thewhimsicalbead #alcoholinkart #rangerinks #alcoholinks #alcoholinktutorial #alcoholinkclasses #workshopinabox #isoproject #isofun #creativeworkshops
16.01.2022 This weekend Ive been organising the launch of two new Workshops in a Box and also the restock of our out of stock boxes. It’s looking like the Mica Gems, Alcohol Ink Art and Octopus Porthole kits will all be available by mid next week but the Christmas Tree Workshop in a Box will be delayed another week due to the polymer clay shortage. I was hoping to release them all at once but instead of making you wait, I’m going to list them as they become available. I’ll pop up a lis...ting in the next day or so for the new boxes. Be sure to sign up for restock notifications as them you’ll be first to hear when they’re back in stock online! If you’re wanting a Workshop in a Box or a Polymer Clay Tool Kit box for a Christmas gift, I’d highly recommend purchasing in this next restock as there are still a few products that are in short supply due to covid. Thank for your patience and support! Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask, - Dani
16.01.2022 I’ve spent today packing kits and restocking our sold our Workshop in a Box tutorial kits. They’re all now back in stock (except the Christmas one!) and waiting for their forever homes. If you can’t get to one of our workshops, this is the next best thing! I’ve also spent some time making it easier for you to find things and shop online. Splitting up our product categories into smaller categories (still more to be done but I’m getting there!), adding search functions and add...ing new stock. Just a reminder that all our orders are processed, packed and shipped usually within 24hrs (on days Aus Post is open). I know how frustrating it is having to wait for your goodies to arrive so I do everything I can to try and get them to you as soon as possible. And I’m usually not too far away if you have any queries about anything at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out. - Dani
15.01.2022 I’m working as fast as I can to get all our current stock lines on the website. So many new things have been added in the last few days and there still more to come. I’m also using this time to do a bit of a spring clean....which means bargains for you! Keep checking the clearance section regularly as items are super limited and are usually listed in bulk to save time, so I can use my time to list more items!!... #thewhimiscalbead #polymerclay #earringfindings #earringmakers #jewellerymaker #jewellerydesign #jewellerymakingfindings #earposts #getcreative #makeityourself #clearancesale #endofline
15.01.2022 One of the questions I get asked most is ‘What glue should I use with polymer clay?’ Honestly, it’s always better to use no glue at all since all glues will breakdown over time. A physical bond (ie. embedding ear posts into earring with polymer clay, layering the back of a bail with a thin piece of polymer etc.) is so much more reliable than an adhesive bond (ie. using glue). I do understand though that this is always the option that you want to go with it and sometimes you’l...l want to use glue. I’ve used a lot of glues in my 15+ years working with polymer clay but there’s still a lot I haven’t tried. The best glue by far that I’ve found to work with polymer clay is Loctite Gel. Being gel it is flexible which works well with polymer clay - also flexible, meaning that rigid super glues tend to fail over time. E6000 is a glue that I’ve seen widely recommended but I don’t like it at all for polymer clay. It has a VERY high fail rate, especially over time and personally I have never had any success with it at all long term. Before I found Loctite, I used to use a 2 part epoxy glue such as araldite. I had quite good success with this although it did fail at times. This may have been because my measurements were slightly out when mixing, I didn’t mix enough or it had been open too long (they don’t have a great shelf life generally). Loctite Gel was so much better and it was much less work! Loctite Gel can be found in our online store and also at at most hardware stores. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. You can also find a wonderful article on all things glue related by Ginger @thebluebottletree that I highly recommend.

12.01.2022 We had such a great day yesterday here at the studio. Lots of visitors to the studio as well as our students and online orders to pack as well. I was definitely feeling the love from all sides!! I finished the day with a big smile on my face and I have all of you to thank for that. I really am so grateful for the support. I’ve received many enquiries regarding workshops. I know some are currently sold out and I’m working on releasing some new dates, as well as some new proje...cts too. PLEASE, please, please get in touch if there’s something you want to do so I know which ones to add extra sessions of. We may also be able to get you in last minute as we can have extra students in our outdoor studio space so may be able to fit you in if the weather is nice and we can run outdoors. We will be open again this Saturday 13th February for sales (no appointment necessary) from 10.00am until 3.00pm as Leanne reaches her Floating Dots polymer clay workshop.....there’s still one place left if you’re interested.
12.01.2022 Usually this time of year I’d be gearing up for our Open Weekend.....also known as our Creative Fun Weekend! It’s always a well attended event with door prizes, a raffle, mini workshops and so much more. We also usually run a collection drive for @sharethedignityaustralia and collate all the items into bags for donation and distribution to those in crisis via Share the Dignity. Unfortunately due to covid, we haven’t been able to do any of that this year which has also meant ...that we haven’t been able to collect for Share the Dignity. That hasn’t stopped Mum and I from putting together some bags of our own and I’d you can, I urge you to do the same. Grab a bag and fill it up with sanitary items and basic essentials (and maybe something special too!) then donate it to your local Bunnings. You can also sponsor a bag online if you can’t get the stores. I am big believer in spreading the love at Christmas time in whatever way you can and this is just one of the ways we choose to give back each year. It’s a great cause and one that I am proud to support. #thewhimsicalbead #sharethedignityaustralia #sharethedignity #christmascharity #spreadthelove #kindnessmatters
11.01.2022 Leanne and Kenzi are setting up ready for our first polymer clay workshop for the year today! The studio will also be open for sales/browsing from 10.00am until 3.00pm today, Sunday 7th February. No appointment or booking necessary. 10 Marna Street (2nd Marna off Ayres Rd), Healesville VIC.... We all look forward to seeing you!
09.01.2022 Just checking to let you all know that we are ok. We’ve had no power, phone, internet or hot water since late Wednesday due to the storms but the house survived quite well considering. We’ve got some flood damage outside but nothing inside thank goodness. I have no phone or internet access so I haven’t been able to reply to messages.... Thank you so much to those of you who have checked in. I will reply to all your messages once I have proper access but I am feeling the love - thank you . I have no access to the website so orders will be delayed a few days but I’ll upgrade them all to express when I gain access. All orders up until Wednesday at about 8pm have been posted as of yesterday. Thank you for your understanding and patience. It’s looking like we have a few more days of this but I’ll check in again as soon as I can. I hope you are all safe. Love Dani xx
08.01.2022 After 4 days of no power, heat, hot water, phone or internet due to the severe storms that hit Victoria, I’m happy to report that the power is back on and we are returning to some kind of normality. Thank you so much for all your messages. Even though I didn’t get most of them until yesterday, I really am feeling the love and I think I’ve replied to most of you. The offers of support have so lovely. We were so lucky not to have sustained any permanent damage to our house. Wit...h the devastation that’s around us, I am feeling very grateful. I hope those of you also in Victoria are safe and damage free. The lack of heat, routine, food, hot water, sleep etc has played havoc on my health so it will take me a few days to recover fully but I’m back in my happy place packing all your orders that came through and super grateful to me be doing so. What a week.....what a year..... The studio is still closed whilst the 25km covid restrictions are in place (we are open for click and collect and online orders of course). I’m hoping that workshops will resume next weekend but we will just have to wait and see what this week brings. Thank you once again for all your love and support. It never goes unnoticed and I am so grateful
07.01.2022 Usually this time of year would be spent getting ready for 2021 workshop releases, our big Open Studio and Creative Fun Day, Christmas events and shows. Sadly that is not the case this year but it’s meant that I’ve had time behind the scenes to work on the ‘Workshops in a Box’ (a great gift idea), the online store, doing some very overdue admin and accounting and planning where we go from here. Things will be quite different here, but not all in a bad way. Thank for sticking around and taking this journey with me
07.01.2022 Sunday nights look like this and I’m so grateful. Thank you! All orders made over the weekend will be in the post tomorrow morning. Not placed your order yet? It’s not too late.if it’s put through and paid before 9am tomorrow (Monday), it will go in tomorrow’s mail
07.01.2022 I’ve just done a quick stocktake of our polymer clay and I’ve pulled some stock that I have had reserved for our kits/Workshops in a Box and popped it online because I know how desperate many of you are for clay. I found out a few days ago that the Sculpey delivery due at the Australian distributors this coming week has been delayed. It is expected within the next few weeks so as soon as we can, we’ll have stock although we can’t guarantee what we will get until we get it. T...here is a worldwide shortage of these due to COVID. Like so many, Polyform Products has been heavily impacted by COVID. There has also been a lot more people taking up a hobby or increasing their creativity during lockdowns across Australia and the world which has also meant more demand. I can tell you that the Australian distributors are going above and beyond to get our polymer products here. Again, I urge you to sign up to restock notifications if there's anything you're really needing. As those who have signed up would know, it’s worth it as you get notified before anyone else does! #thewhimsicalbead #polymerclay #polymerclaymakers #polymerclayearrings #polymerclaysupplies #premoclay #souffleclay #supportsmallbusiness #customerscomefirst #healesville #melbournesmallbusiness #creativemelbourne #isocreation
06.01.2022 I’m so excited to be able to release our new Advent Calendars! They almost didn’t happen this year as, due to covid, I had trouble getting stock. I would have liked to release these a month ago but it was not to be. BUT, they’re here now and ready to go! There are two different types available..... The Earring Edition &... The Polymer Clay Makers Edition Very limited numbers of both! They’d make a great gift and we can even send directly to the recipient. You can find them on the website under the Kits category. 06.01.2022 New product alert! Well, technically they’re an oldie but we haven’t stocked them for a few years so I’m classing them as newbies!! I’ve just added these Makins Texture Sheet packs to the online store. Each pack contains 4 sheets, each with a different design. They’re affordable and, with care, will last years.... Ensure you use a release agent when rolling onto your polymer clay. The best (and cheapest!) release agent is just water! Put some in a spritzer (also available in store), spray the sheet lightly with water, give it a shake and away you go!
06.01.2022 The Whimsical Bead isn’t just a business....it’s my life. And my heart and soul goes into it every single day. It’s been that way for almost 15 years and I’m proud of the connections and community that we’ve built. Receiving feedback like this really does make my day and gives me purpose - something that is worth it’s weight in gold , especially when you suffer from chronic illnesses. ... Thank you!
05.01.2022 Have you checked out our components and findings lately? So many newbies plus all the old favourites. I’ve still got quite a lot of findings to add. Clasps, crimps, crispy covers, wire protectors and more bezels are just some of what is on the agenda for the coming weeks.... 04.01.2022 It’s such a beautiful day here today. It’s a shame that we can’t share it with all our students. Hopefully if we all continue to do the right thing you’ll be able to come and visit soon enough. Are you taking advantage of the gorgeous weather? I’m did all my washing this morning, did a big postal run and watered my roses. This afternoon is busy packing the kits ready for launch/restock next week and catching up on some admin as it’s been an unexpectedly stressful week. Have a great afternoon whatever you might be doing!
03.01.2022 Just some of the new components now online! Can you believe there’s more to come?? I’ll be adding the last of the new stock this afternoon then it’s back to listing the current studio stock. Which are your favourite? And what colour metals do you work with the most?

02.01.2022 I’m missing having you all making a wonderfully creative mess here in the studio. I’m missing the laughter. I’m missing the knowledge being imparted. I’m missing the fun.... I’m missing the collaboration. I’m missing the friendships. I’m missing the creativity. I’m missing the people. It’s hard to explain to people what it is we do here at The Whimsical Bead. If you’ve been here, well, you know. It’s more than a workshop, it’s a creative experience. And even more than that, it connects people, helps them feel not so alone. Special things happen here and it’s something I’ve never taken for granted. What are you missing about the studio? And if you haven’t been here before are you planning to visit us when we reopen?
02.01.2022 Wow! You guys went crazy for our Advent Calendars. The Polymer Clay Makers one sold out in hours. Thank you so much. I do a happy dance literally every time an order comes through. As I mentioned in my last post, the idea was to release these back in October and have lots so we didn’t run out (well at least not in hours!) but due to covid and shipping delays etc. I just couldn’t get the stock here and make it happen. ... But! We’ve managed to put together 15 more of the Polymer Clay Makers Edition Advent Calendars. I’ll list them online tonight (probably around 7/7.30pm AEDT (sign up for restock notifications and you’ll get an email when they’re up) but they won’t be shipped until this Saturday 21st or next Monday 23rd - we’re just waiting on the stickers for the boxes to arrive. As soon as they do, they’ll be on their way to you. There are still a few of The Earring Edition Advent Calendars left in store but once they’re gone they’re gone. Again, thank you SO much for your support. I really do appreciate it. - Dani #thewhimsicalbead #adventcalendar #creativeadventcalendar #getcreative #forthemakers #christmas #christmascrafts #christmasiscoming #christmasgiftideas
02.01.2022 Joining our range of nickel free brass, stainless steel and sterling silver ear hooks are our new niobium and titanium ear hooks. Pure titanium, is extraordinarily strong, impervious to fresh or salt water and hypo-allergenic. Titanium offers a light gunmetal color, a bright finish and is lightweight and comfortable to wear. It is an ideal choice for those with metal sensitivities. Niobium is naturally hypoallergenic making it an excellent choice for people with metal allerg...ies. It is highly resistant to corrosion and other reactions. Now available online. If you’ve got any questions about any of our earring findings please don’t hesitate to reach out.
01.01.2022 Most of our cutters are now online but I’ll be adding the Makins ones over the next few days in between tutorials writing. Makins cutters are a great economical option when you’re starting out and want a few different shapes to get you started. I like the bulb shape from this range as it makes great flower petals. ... I think my favourite metal cutters from the Premo range are the irregular ovals. They’re a unique shape that showcases your designs well. 01.01.2022 Gosh I can’t wait until the studio looks like this again....all set up waiting for students to arrive. I’ve had a lot of enquiries this past week regarding workshops which has been amazing. I’m so excited that so many of you are keen to come and learn and visit the studio. So I thought I’d better give you an update on what’s happening.... Under the current covid restrictions we are still not able to legally open as we are both a home based business and a creative studio. This may change with the next easing of restrictions but even when that happens we will still be bound by social distancing rules which greatly limits our capacity to run our workshops as we have in the past. We will definitely be back up and running at some stage. I’ve got no plans to close that part of the business down. However we need to do things legally and safely. I won’t be taking much time off over the Christmas/New Year period. Likely just the main days with a few days here and there in January. So, as soon as we can run workshops again, we will. They will need to be in smaller groups which may mean we do shorter workshops but I’ll work out all the details when the time comes. I’m so excited that you’re all keen to come and learn at the studio and I hope you’ll keep that enthusiasm up for when we can open. I’d love to meet you (or see you again!). What workshops are you looking forward to??
