25.01.2022 Triple feline connection. I was feeling a bit rattled last night, and these divine pusses made sure they grounded me well and truly. Thank you WH Paige, Madi and Luna

24.01.2022 WH Macca, checking out who is arriving to do morning feedout. Our volunteer entrance is about 400 metres away, and all the doggies keep an eye on who is coming and going. Usually siblings Fox and Cleo run all the way up to the gate, and sometimes score a lift with the incoming volunteer, if they are lucky!

24.01.2022 I am so devastated to let you know, we lost our beloved cat, WH Diego, during the night, hit by a car, all the way out on Queenscliff Rd. I always lock the cats in our cottage (stable cats go in the storage shed), yet he was let out after I went to bed. Diego joined the clan, as a two week old kitten, on 17th January, 2017. GAWS had these two kittens, needing help, and though I hadn’t handraised such young kittens, for many years, we took the plunge. ... Tynisha, only 10 year old at the time, became my willing kitten raiser, and we journeyed through the joys of raising WH Diego and his sister, WH Mishka. Both kittens blossomed and were foster fails, becoming part of our family at the sanctuary. Both kittens very special to us, as dear Madison Lyden named both of them. We all lost Madi on 11th August, 2018, in New York. One of the photos below, shows Diego sitting on Mads. Ty and I loved Diego so much. He was such a teenager, and loved his sister. I’m glad I got to see him grooming her, only two days ago. Grooming sessions that would often end up in rough play, bless them. Diego would follow me around in the cottage, jumping up on the laundry sink, interfering with me washing my hands, and he always looked me in the eye. He meowed his thoughts many times, and I’m glad I have recent photos of him laying on top of his sister. To hand raise a little one, and watch them grow, forms a bond that is so strong. To lose such a dear puss, at only 3 years of age, has broken my heart into so many pieces today. Tynisha and I will miss him so dearly, as we both had such a special connection with these dear cats. I will have to show Mishka his body, so she can understand he is gone. Today is such a sad day. RIP little bloke. You were loved, treasured and honoured, and will never be forgotten.

24.01.2022 We welcomed young boy, WH Wilbur, into care tonight. His family love him very much, but he wasn’t permitted to stay in their semi-rural property, so he will be joining our woolly & goat crew soon. He was castrated at Barwon Equine Hospital earlier today, with thanks to his folk for organising this. ... Wilbur will spend some time recovering in his yard, before being introduced to our mob!

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas On behalf of all the team at Winged Horse, we are keen to wish you all the merriest of Christmases, wherever you are in the world! May this be a time of peace, togetherness, rest and recuperation. May 2021 herald in a new time of adventure, fantastic health, goal achievement and love. ... May the world be a kinder place for all sentients in the process. Love from Carolyn, all her family and the incredible volunteer team (now more than forty amazing folk!)!

24.01.2022 Friday Funny Photo - what would WH Diego be saying (he was midway through trying to shake off something in his mouth)?

23.01.2022 Yay, sharing for our friends at Wallington Park

23.01.2022 Slow mo Monday, with WH Wally & WH Puss in Boots, demonstrating the Tao of play fights!

23.01.2022 Private boy Apollo, and madam WH Rowe, enjoying Friday roundbale munchies

23.01.2022 *** DIRECT REHOMING POST ON BEHALF OF OWNER- please direct ALL enquires to owner on mobile number listed**** Urgent request for a safe home for approx 25year old mare, Mia. Location ECHUCA area. Property was sold and new owners committed to taking on this easy to handle lady, but have given very short notice to owner, to find her a home. ... Mia is good for farrier, and to float, no sedation needed for teeth, but due to her age, is probably better suited as a companion, despite being a ridden horse (no beginners) previously. Mia is quiet, great around kids and pets, and has never been known to kick. Contact her person, Charlie, on 0459428469 for further queries. References essential.

23.01.2022 A ginormous shout out (he will kill me!!) for Adam Larcombe at Larcombe Plumbing! Adam came to our rescue (hee hee literally!) yesterday at 7.30am, to save us from a cold water fate, where our ancient hot water service had gone to God. In less than an hour and a half, our passed on system had disappeared, and a brand new, larger (thank you Universe!) unit was standing strong, ready to supply our very busy household, with pumping hot water!... We have a long time connection with Adam and his beautiful wife, Emma, who has supported Winged Horse from our very early days. Both will strangle me for posting this, but beautiful heart led folk need exposing in the best way possible! Next project for Adam, is our septic tank drainage, and new gutters. (Bischofs pay for all cottage/family related things of course, at the sanctuary). Thank you legend! https://www.facebook.com/larcombeplumbing/

22.01.2022 Sooo lovely to see WH Jedda and gorgeous Eliza Wassell feature in Horse Deals. It was last year, but so worth sharing again! Rescue is tough, but gosh, when organisations work as a team, such positive differences are made!

22.01.2022 WH Sylvester, cos he’s the cutest cat to photograph ever!

22.01.2022 I couldn’t resist this photo! The crazy winds knocked one of our bins over, much to WH Madi’s delight! Another box type container to explore....until young peacock, WH Henry Junior, came a bit too close for comfort!

21.01.2022 I’m writing the post we, as a team, never want to write, particularly when a dear soul was only in care, just short of a week. It’s now Thursday, and on Monday night, we lost beautiful WH Tansey. It’s only now, I’m ready to the about her loss. WH Tansey was enjoying her new paddock next to the goats and sheep, and had a lay down in the sun, on Monday afternoon. We’d booked dear Jill Steptoe, for Myotherapy, which would have been tomorrow, as Tansey was quite stiff to walk.... From behind, she really did wobble, which was of concern, but she seemed to be able to get around ok. Carly had successfully trimmed 3 of her feet, with one foot having blown out a bad hoof abscess, which was freely draining. Carly was on feedout on Monday, and noted that Tansey was laying down in the sun, around 3pm, when she arrived. The dear aged girl seemed content, so concern was only raised a couple of hours later, when Carly saw that Tansey was still down. She raised the alarm, and we took vitals, and could see that the poor girl just could not get up. We got the ver out, and it was determined that Tansey most likely had a degenerative neurological condition, resulting in almost no power in either back leg. With great sadness, we had her euthanised, and she passed very peacefully. Still in shock, with multiple hearts broken, as she was very popular in her short time with us. We particularly send love to Simon and Carol, who looked after her for a year, as her person’s health declined. Rest In Peace dear Tansey, and please know that we might have only known you for six days, but your memory will last forever.

21.01.2022 We have welcomed dear mid 30’s WH Chuckie back into care, after being looked after so beautifully by Louise. Chuckie and his Clydie buddy, weren’t getting along as well, with his big mate playing a bit too rough. So this ex-therapy pony has come back to the sanctuary, to mix in with wee ones like him. ... WH Chuckie has long term laminitis, Cushings and asthma, but it such a bright little bloke! Welcome back gorgeous boy

21.01.2022 A bromance seems to be developing between pusses WH Billy and WH Sylvester(aka Fudge)

21.01.2022 Henry junior enjoying a bit of space from his sisters!

19.01.2022 Who remembers little goat, WH Albus, who we spent 12 weeks working to save, after his mystery illness, a couple of years ago? Well, this lucky little bloke was adopted yesterday, but one of my beautiful friends, Kath Ball. Kath and I have been friends since 1985, and Kath also knew and rode dearest Rassie, who our logo is based on. ... To have WH Albus join her family, with his own new bestie sheep friend, is such a delight for us all. Such happy news!

19.01.2022 Cheeky peahen, lounging around on my car!

19.01.2022 The divine Nell Godfrey, has been busy as a , sewing masks for local folk, and donating $10 of every sale to Winged Horse! Nell just informed me that she has raised over $800 for us!!! What an amazing lady! Thank you dear soul!

18.01.2022 Thank you Katey, one of our new volunteers, who took these amazing photos this morning, of WH Megsy, keeper of the wheelchair! Isn’t he divine? Once a feral kitten, caught up the road at a friend’s home, this puss loves getting his smooch on, and charming all who will pat him. He has the most velvet fur, is one of our highest ranking cats (in the feline department of bossiness), and of course, owns the place!

18.01.2022 Happiest of birthday to Horses!

18.01.2022 And here is gorgeous Primrose (WH Poppy, daughter of dearly departed WH Primrose), also with Sebastian (WH Ford) at a very special home!

17.01.2022 We are so delighted at the amazing efforts put in by the Yr 11 & 12 Vcal students at Newcomb Secondary College, who are doing work experience with us each Friday, this term. They all work so hard, cleaning yards, laying straw for our animals, and working as a team! The photos show Chloe, Alicia and John, all working well on a sunny Winter’s day today. ... Beautiful teacher, Megan Fell, oversees the group, together with our own volunteer coordinator, Courtney Burgess. We are so excited to be part of this wonderful connection!

17.01.2022 Hay round distribution supervisors - lead I’m cool supervisor, maremma WH Macca at the rear, followed by I’m really a dog supervisor, grey puss WH Billy. In the front, is I bark and drive Mum mad in the tractor brown and white boy, Fox!

17.01.2022 Thank you beautiful crew at Feast Geelong - we are so grateful for your loving support again!

16.01.2022 A shout out to Linh Ngo, of Practera, and the student team at UNSW, who completed a research project on our behalf, looking at ways to improve our funding and visibility. We are most certainly taking on board, the very constructive advice, and look forward to making some positive changes. Onwards and upwards!

16.01.2022 A huge shout out to Billy@ Equine Park Herbs in Queensland! Billy has gifted us a huge discount in our order of herbs for our equines in care. We prefer natural support for our animals, where possible, and are so grateful for the discount!... https://www.equineparkherbs.com.au/

15.01.2022 Cute kitty WH Madi, having a bit of fun with ever patient boy, WH Macca, just now.

15.01.2022 Yay, of course our work is 24/7, and it’s the business of saving lives.

14.01.2022 Sharing for this dear puss

14.01.2022 Aw Mum, hurry up and tend to that pony; my support team while I checked on JP Tess today. She showed signs of mild colic, just as my best friend and family were arriving from Melbourne. Thank you as always, to Dr Emma Stella-Hall, of GD Equine, for providing immediate phone support & guidance. Tess has responded beautifully to treatment and we are so relieved. ... Love all the pooch and pussy cat vet nurses we have onsite!

13.01.2022 Thank you dear Barbara Crane I discovered a most beautiful card and donation in our letter box this afternoon, which made my day! Thank you dear courier Barbara, and a hug to your friend Jean, for the wonderful donation. ... Wishing everyone an equally blessed weekend! Live Carolyn xxx

13.01.2022 Ah, the easiest way to capture kitties- buy them new rectangular beds from Simpson’s Bargain Basement! Featuring WH Madi on the left, in a small bed (only $18), then WH Diego on right, two sizes up - technically a dog bed, but fit for Sir Diego!

13.01.2022 For folk who have real cut Christmas trees, in the Geelong/Bellarine area, do consider contacting these guys, who will pick up your tree and donate it to our sheep and goats. Far better than going to landfill! Contact the crew on... https://www.facebook.com/christmastreecollections/

13.01.2022 What a divine Spring day - here’s a little peek at farm life at WH

12.01.2022 Cart inspector, WH Sylvester, checking out the status of the protective cabin soft windows.

12.01.2022 NERO has been adopted Just to clarify Nero was never kept in a cage, Ingrids Haven cats are kept in cat colonies where cats have an outdoor space and indoor... area that has bedding with electric blankets. As far as tooth removal it is very common for cats to have dental disease PLEASE, PLEASE, SHARE Nero arrived as a kitten about ten years ago, he was a big bouncy boy but somehow never got adopted. As the years went on, Nero started to withdraw from visitors, well, humans in general. He loves his groomer Sharon, he has had all his teeth taken out, he is up to date with everything and I am positive he will blossom once he is in a home and has overcome his insecurities just like Ronny did some years ago. He gets on fine with his room mates so another more out going cat will be fine. Kittens are adopted every single weekend and hardly anyone looks at the adults and the shy ones don't even get a glance. Can someone, please find it in their hearts to give a senior cat a home and make him smile again. Pleeeeease. MC 956000002206913 Source BR101126 For an appointment please Call Ingrid on 0417 360 700 (no SMS please) or email [email protected] for directions to the Haven. www.ingridshaven.net.au Ingrid's Haven is 30 minutes up the Hume Hwy from the Western Ring rd

12.01.2022 Thank you dear Cameron & Jimmy, for delivering these gorgeous trees to us!

10.01.2022 Doing a shout out for our mate, Timothy Rolls (ph 0427 887 260), who is amazing at building horse shelters! The ones in the photo were custom made for our sheep and goats, with shade sails, and they are awesome! Tim has enough second hand corrugated iron sheets for one shelters, but will need to use new sheets beyond that. ... Get in quick, his rates are fantastic, and he supports us at The Winged Horse, in so many ways.

10.01.2022 A huge shout out to the City of Greater Geelong We are lucky recipients of a $2000 grant, where we have taken advantage of the Boxing Day sales, and purchased 13 Drizabone coats, to ensure our feedout crew are protected against inclement weather. We are so grateful, as our volunteers do so much for us, and they attend the sanctuary in all weather; rain, hail, strong wind or shine! ... Bellarine Peninsula can turn on some pretty feral weather in the colder months, and to have fantastic quality jackets (thank you RB Sellars!) for our crew, is so heartwarming.

10.01.2022 Happy Furry Friday from WH Madi!

09.01.2022 Good luck to all the entrants, winners announced today at 4pm est

09.01.2022 Sharing for my dear friend Alicia Cherished Pets

09.01.2022 Thank you to Andy Meddick & Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria, this sounds like life changing news, in the challenging world of responsible horse rescue charities. It’s so heartening to see our work being taken seriously, and funding is an ongoing challenge. We’ll keep you posted as updates arise.

08.01.2022 Oh Crezzi!!! Licking won’t get this off you! Madam pooch thought she would lay down where Tynisha was painting, right where all the paints were - fifty shades of pink! Well, maybe not fifty, but enough to give Crezzi a new look! Needless to say, it was instantly bath time!

08.01.2022 Sometimes playing with your new scratch tree/playhouse (thank you Simpson’s Basement in Drysdale!) is just too exhausting, according to WH Madi!

08.01.2022 Thank you everyone! Sending incredible thanks to each person, for contributing to our fundraiser this month! We have raised over $12,000, which is absolutely incredible, and helps us to provide the lifesaving service that we do. ... We are particularly grateful, as the whole world has been impacted by the pandemic, and many folk are affected financially, with donations being a challenge. We are in this for the long haul, and look forward to new strategies, using Patreon as a platform. Exciting times! Thanks again, Love from Carolyn & all the team xxx

08.01.2022 Hard to believe dear WH Casper is mid thirties (or forties, but most likely mid thirties). He has been with us for nearly seven years, and lives a life of geriatric rights. He wanders freely up the laneway, or around the track, (or up into the feedroom if some forgets to double lock the gates at the stables!). How do you rate him in this photo I took today? ... You’d never suspect he is riddled with multiple melanomas, as well as arthritis in his jaw, would you?! I always get nervy before every Winter, with our vulnerable ones, but am so delighted with how good this senior boy is journeying. Thank you, as always, to Phoenix Feeds, who are our lifesavers (literally at times!) in the feed department! We also have Casper on Golden Paste, plus his own blend of herbs, that support him with relief for inflammation, joint health and general wellbeing. Needless to say, I am now covered in fur, after he chased me (again and again and again- how can you say no more to this gentleman?!), demanding a grooming session! He is a firm favourite of so many volunteers, and will have a lovely bath tomorrow. He adores wash day, and has been known to flatly refuse to walk past the washbay if other horses are being washed- as in, planting all four feet, and REFUSING to move until he gets led to the wash bay!

08.01.2022 WH Blackie laying down to law to young whipper snapper, WH Madi!

08.01.2022 Our Aussie version of an arctic fox! Dear WH Macca keeping me company in the cottage. Please note, he did have access to two doggy beds near the fire, but opted to hang out with me. Gorgeous boy!

07.01.2022 PLEASE HELP I’m so grateful to each and everyone who has contributed to our emergency fundraiser so far. However, the thermometer bar still has a long way to go until we reach our goal. We have launched this fundraiser to help our rescue keep doing the lifesaving work that is our mission. Times are tough and our horses and ponies still need the ongoing love and care they deserve.... We really have to hit our target to guarantee we have enough funds to pay our bills and to what we do best, rescuing and rehabilitating horses. COVID-19 has hit us hard. Our rescue is struggling and we need you tonight. We’ve had some good successes. WH Cara (The mum), who arrived very underweight and extremely pregnant. The challenge was to feed her up safely, ready to birth WH Kazam. The photo shows how skinny she was, just after birthing her big boy, as all her goodness went into giving him the start he deserved. We never give up, it’s in our blood. It’s why we were put on this planet. Tonight, I’m asking you to help chip in to hit our $20,000 target. Just $5 from each and every one of you would help get us over the line. Please donate now: https://fundraise.giveeasy.org/campai/help-save-our-rescue/

07.01.2022 FOUND PUSSY CAT Any locals missing this very friendly (& very hungry) puss? Our feedout crew just discovered her/him in our stables, and have given her food and water, and enclosed her in the stables. ... We will take her to Kardinia Vet for scanning as soon as we can. Update, this puss will be at GAWS from tomorrow (Thursday).

07.01.2022 A most divine local lady, Nell Godfrey, is handmaking face masks, and donating all proceeds to our sanctuary! Nell is happy to take small orders. If interested, please message her directly via Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/NellMarles

07.01.2022 WH Billy, striking a pose on a wooden pallet. He’s so cute, he then followed me out in the tractor, checking out where I was dropping hay. He seriously is more dog than cat!

06.01.2022 Sharing for fellow animal warrior woman, who happens to also be a qualified animal herbalist, who has her own brand of amazing herbal balms & creams. I’m sure Jac and I could meet somewhere and we can hold purchases at the sanctuary, if Portarlington is an easy pick up point. I’ll be ordering some goodies for sure! ... Love Carolyn xxx

06.01.2022 HELP REQUIRED DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE SHARE Dear Winged Horse followers, we are so keen to have your support at Cup Time. We love sharing our good news stories, such as how we rescued WH Noah (who also needed colic surgery) and WH Casper, who is riddled with melanoma but had a wonderful quality of life. We’ve shared many good times together and I’ve also let you know when things are tough and I need to let you know that they are tough at present. The current pandemic c...ontinues to hit us hard. We’ve really not been able to do any fundraising of note and the calls for help keep on coming. I know I’m late, this post should have been up in the morning! We anticipate being called on to help more horses, as the repercussions of Covid are affecting many animal owners. So tonight, this Melbourne Cup night, I’m asking for one more bet. For you to place a sure bet on us as we urgently need to raise $15,000 to guarantee our ability to answer all the calls that come for help over the coming months. $20 helps buy one bag of feed for the horses in our care. Just $5 from each and every one of you would get us there. It’s the cost of a glass of champagne at your celebrations this afternoon but one that will help save a life. Please bet on us today. It’s a sure winner. Please donate now: https://the-winged-horse-equine-welfare-inc.giveeasy.org/ur

06.01.2022 URGENT HELP DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE SHARE LIKE CRAZY We need your urgent help. Today should be a happy day as it’s the horse’s birthday. I wish it was, but ...it’s full of stress. We’ve had a really hard year. Donations are down, actually they have pretty much stopped. The bushfires and now COVID-19 has pretty much made sure it has been near impossible to raise any funds. However, the horses in our care still need our help. We’ve got 40 horses and ponies. They are so beautiful and each day I’m stressed. Stressed at how we will keep them fed. Make sure we have adequate funds for vet bills as they occur. My sickness has also made it really hard but we have to keep on going. The other alpacas, sheep, goats, cats and chickens we have with us all depend on us. We’ve recently had to start turning animals away in need, despite having the room and the facilities as our funds have nearly dried up. It pains my heart. I was put on this planet to rescue and rehabilitate and having to turn away animals is just too terrible. However, the food, farrier, dental and vet bills don’t stop. I’ve tossed and turned and decided we need to do something. Times are extremely tough but we need to raise enough funds to pay our outstanding bills and get back to what we do best, helping those who call out for our help. I founded this rescue to answer every call and today on the horse’s birthday I’m asking you to answer my call for help. To help save our rescue. We need to raise $20,000.... Just $5 from each and every one of you would help get us over the line. It’s just the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will make sure we can continue to save our precious horses and animals during this pandemic. If there was ever a time we needed you, it is now. Let’s do this for our horses. Please donate now: https://fundraise.giveeasy.org/campaig/help-save-our-rescue

06.01.2022 WH Rowe and I are so honoured, to have been selected as one of the ten finalists (out of 850 entries, my heavens!) in the Advocate’s People Rescue Story section of the Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards! To make it to the final ten, is such an honor, and we are most grateful to Cathy Beer and all of the team at Jetpets. WH Rowe continues to wrap my heart around her hoof, and yesterday, chose to follow me around the paddock, just hanging out with me, rather than her buddy..., Apollo. I love this gorgeous mare so much. The winners will be revealed at a virtual Rescue Awards Ceremony at 4pm AEDT on 15 October 2020. Join in the celebration and watch this special event live via the Rescue Awards Facebook page at @rescueawards. https://rescueawards.com.au/advocate-peoples-rescue-stor//

06.01.2022 Welcome WH Tansey We say a huge welcome to dear aged Standardbred mare, WH Tansey, who arrived into care today, thanks to Gary @ Southwest Horse Transport. Tansey’s dear human sadly passed away recently, and some lovely folk have been helping with her care, for some time. ... She’s quite a big set girl, somewhere between 25 & 30 years of age, and understandably stiff after her time in the truck. Her feet need a good trim, and Carly, our adoptions manager and awesome barefoot trimmer, is tending to her tootsies this Friday. We are lining her up for Aunty Benita, to get her teeth checked, and have started her on a feeding program, including Golden Paste for her joints. She hasn’t been rugged in recent years, and has good shelter tonight, but we’ll see how she adjusts to a winter combo rug tomorrow. Thanks to dear Dr Emma Stella-Hall, for referring Tansey to us!

06.01.2022 Young puss (not quite a year old yet), WH Madi, exploring outdoors on a lovely Spring day.

06.01.2022 For the first time in over seven years of owning the sanctuary, the usually dry creek, is flowing aplenty! This paddock is our mini herd’s zone, which has been cut in half by the deluge! A bit of fun for the ponies, and the two dams are brimming too!

04.01.2022 I’m not moving! Dear WH Macca (& Fox & Cleo) had a lovely walk at the You Yang’s today, with Eliza & Jadae. When I arrived home, he wasn’t about to move for the car, so I had to drive around him! He’s exhausted!

04.01.2022 Poor WH Diego hasn’t been feeling that well recently, so WH Madi & WH Paige tried to cheer him up, with some fly swatting antics. Thank you to Dr Fiona@ Kardinia Vets, for helping Diego with his infection (unknown origin, but temp is up) and fur-in-throat issue. We are trialing Feliway spray in the cottage, as Diego is overgrooming and spraying (bye bye very large, very expensive television!), despite seemingly enjoying the company of the other cats. ... Get well soon little buddy xx

03.01.2022 WH Madi approves of the divine new pussy cat bed from Simpson’s Bargain Basement in Drysdale.

02.01.2022 WH Madi & WH Billy hope everyone is keeping warm on this very wet Spring day on the Bellarine Peninsula

02.01.2022 Time for an update! Have we been resting on our laurels, like our peahen in the photo? (No, she hasn’t been run over! This is her I’m sunning myself position, after carefully aiming a pooh on the ute’s bonnet- just after I wash it too). After a very quiet Covid-affected period of many months, we are so excited to be welcoming back school groups, and seeing our volunteer coordinator, Courtney Burgess, return to work, after time off. ... Courtney is catching up on contacting all those who have expressed interest in volunteering, and we are already seeing new smiling faces (smiling eyes- it’s hard to see smiles under masks) onsite, in training! Some new folk are seeking animal contact for personal support, and we are welcoming carers and their clients where possible. We are playing catch up with our dear farrier, Braydn, who we welcome with open arms, tomorrow, after unfortunate cancellations. Sending loving thoughts to Braydn and his family, on the sad loss of his Grandma . We have some possible adoptions of mini horses/ponies coming up, and our adoptions manager, Carly Sutherland, has been very busy coordinating site inspections and pony greets, as well as working fulltime as an amazing barefoot trimmer. Due to Covid, we won’t be having an Open Day this year, but are planning for 2021 to be bigger and better! I’ll be launching a fundraiser soon too. I’m in training for the Cadbury (Hobart) Marathon, rescheduled to Easter Sunday 2021. This will be my first marathon ever, and funds raised, will be put towards important projects we are working on. Details to come! As an organisation, we have trotted along very quietly the last few months, mainly due to Covid, as well as me needing to rest a lot, having dealt with a severe case of thyroiditis, from late June, through til the end of August. I’m still in the hypothyroid phase, but am improving every day, with the help of a naturopath, acupuncturist and slow increase in my running training. Special mention of Matt Daniels @run_coaching, who is training me for free, together with three other lucky winners. This means so much to me. I’m booked for New York marathon in November 2021, to run in honor of Madison Lyden, who we all lost in 2018. I somehow won a spot to train with Matt, to run in Hobart... where dear Madi was born and raised. It seems synchronicity is at play - I get to run my first marathon in Madi’s home town, with her beautiful Mum, Amanda, and twin sister, Paige, supporting me. Madi loved the work we do at Winged Horse, and she also had Type I diabetes. My goal is to raise funds that help us help both our horses, and those young ones with Type I diabetes and other challenges. Much love, Carolyn xxx

01.01.2022 So excited to announce that one of our favourite rescued mini horses- ok, we aren’t meant to have favourites- WH Jude- has been ADOPTED! As tempting as it was, never to allow this cheeky boy to move onto a new home, our charter is to match the right animals with their people. Joey Bastick has been an amazing supporter of ours for years, and any animal that finds her as their two legged, is a lucky soul indeed. ... This beautiful lady & her gorgeous partner, Tim Dowdle, fell for WH Jude, and he joined her family this afternoon. For folk new to the page, WH Jude arrived into care mid 2016, as an emaciated two year old colt. He weighed 36kgs, and if he lay down, he was too weak to lift his head. For three weeks, we spent many hours in the stable, lifting him with the help of a belly band, and at one stage we rigged up oxygen supply, as he nearly left the earth a few times. One of our volunteers, Marcus Hanify, has naming honours, and called him Jude, after the Beatles song. Jude held in there, and once he was strong enough, he was gelded. It’s taken along time for his body to recover, and he still throws a manky winter coat, typical of someone who has been through so much. He, like all of those who come into care, holds a piece of our hearts in his little hooves, and we know he will have the most divine home ever. Love to you dear Joey & Tim, and all the family, two and four footed!

01.01.2022 We are sooo excited for dear mini mare, WH Moon, one of our original rescued mini horses, who has been adopted out today! Moon now has a delighted new boyfriend called Jordan, and the photos are priceless! For long term followers, you may remember that WH Moon arrived in 2003, as one of 16 emaciated mini horses, in collaboration with RSPCA Vic. ... Moon rehabbed well, and was first adopted to a most beautiful lady called Jill, who so sadly passed away from illness. Moon returned to our care, with Jill’s aged (cheeky) Arab, WH Pixie, who still resides with us at the sanctuary. Moon also spent considerable time in the Equine Studies program at Bellarine Secondary College, winning many hearts along the way. She was then adopted to a lovely local friend, who later needed to return her due to financial consideration. Moon has been onsite since, except for a rushed visit to Werribee Equine Hospital, due to a bout of colic. We are so excited that she now has her forever home, together with a well matched boyfriend! Loving thanks to Casandra, for taking her into your home and heart, and to Carly, our adoptions manager, for being the most amazing, all encompassing manager of precious-ones-moving-to-new-homes.
