So O'Neil researched and found that the club never ever improved when a coach was sacked. 20.01.2022 "The Winning Difference". Dr Frank Dick OBE The Athlete/Coach Interface-more important than any other aspect in sport.... I am re-launching The Sprint Stable Facebook Page with a new ID:@thewinningdifference The idea is not to post too often as doing so reduces the quality-like over training an athlete! It needs to feel fresh. So i wont be posting daily sessions of our stable of sprinters and hurdlers.I will do this occasionally as video is only one of my coaching tools. Feel free to "friend" The Sprint Stable and engage with us on any positive, respectful and meaningful discussion about the preparation of athletes and the global sport we call Athletics.Or just look, listen and learn. I thought i'd start with a clip from a presentation on LTAD which i have presented at various conferences in Europe, Africa and Australia/NZ.Just to get you thinking! On the other side of COVID19, I am happy to come to your clubs to present on athlete preparation, just make contact and we can chat. Enjoy! @thewinningdifference https://www.facebook.com/thewinningdifference/videos/285279838838807/

16.01.2022 This is the most famous moment is sport-the first human to run sub 4 mins for the mile (1609m) The race was on for years. Sports scientists said this was not possible. Quality coaches and thier athletes are always one step ahead. Bannisters coach, Austrian Franz Stamphl were not having a bar of this! Bannister was doing a busy medical degree at Oxford.... He did short quality sessions, quality movement Stampl was a genious and Bannister reaped the benifits. QUALITY OUTLASTS QUANTITY #sprintstable https://www.facebook.com/2381083258790361/posts/2694299654135385/

14.01.2022 THE FOUR DAY WEEK A SHORT COACHING ARTICLE By Stuart Dempster... Work life balance-in our working lives Work rest balance-in our coaching Jacinda Ardern, The Prime Minister of New Zealand is talking positively about the introduction of the 4 day week. In the last 20 years there has been a fast growing body of evidence to show that, yet again, less is more. The first time I became aware of this was in January 2000 the French Government lead by Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, enforced a 35 hour working week for all government employees. Then later there were some practical examples of hard evidence that the principle of working fewer hours is beneficial to our family, social, health and well being and the economy. Some businesses in Stockholm, Sweden and Wellington, New Zealand decided to walk the walk on this and decided to reduce the hours. Whilst the Kiwis went for the four day week, the Swedes went for the 35 hours maximum working hours. In addition to this employees were not allowed to take extra work home and were mandated to take coffee breaks whilst at work The result? Over the course of the new structure the companies reported their employees were happier, healthier (huge drop in absenteeism) and more productive as the company accounts were reporting a far healthier bottom line. This same principle actually works in regards to coaching athletes. I see everywhere coaches-or are they trainers? Implementing training regimes based on the principle that the athlete work hard. Sprinters are being run ragged around an oval until they vomit and/or until they adopt the fetal position. Sessions seem to be designed to appease parents who pay the coach. The value for money culture is based on high volume and copious amounts of time spent training.Kudos is gained seemingly by the longer the session the better value for money it is. However we are dealing with human being and young ones at that. When I coached a stable of sprinters in Brisbane I lost a couple of young athletes because the parents said they spent most of their time sitting around during sessions. Well of course they do, tired people dont run fast! What is misunderstood is that the parents dont pay me to keep their children busy, they pay me to be effective. So, like the 4 days per week, we need to be valued on this basis and not some arbitrary hourly rate or the number of days we make an appearance. https://www.abc.net.au//fear-of-a-four-day-workin/12280298

12.01.2022 I was sent this by John Butcher. This is BBC live sports coverage of the UK Clubs final, 1983, pitting all the best clubs to the televised finals. The BBC commentary team were the best who called at multiple Olympic Games. If you watch the full video which lasts 45 mins you will see how this sort of competition benifited the sport of Athletics. You will also note many famous Olympic, Eurpean and Commonwealth Games Athletes, some gold medalists on thier way up or had already ...won at the Moscow Olympics and recent European and Commonwealth Games. One famous olympic champion came third here! How would Australia fair if we had this here? Do you think the athletes and the wider sport would grow with this approach? Enjoy! WARNING: What ever you do dont watch the mens 400m Hurdles at the beginning! #thesprintstable https://www.youtube.com/watch
